As a fan of “European soccer” the idea of other competitions outside of the championship I don’t think transfers well over to the NBA. The difference in Europe is there are 5 Elite Leagues England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy who compete for the Champions League Mid Season. The NBA is unbeatably the best division of basketball so exploring the potential for a tournament like that personally I don’t feel adds up. Whilst the FA Cup in England is domestic teams only every professional team gets an opportunity and I couldn’t imagine the G league teams getting a shot at the NBA ones. Kinda confusing just with how much of a powerhouse the NBA is. Obviously the game is becoming much more international but the NBA will never be surpassed as the Mona Lisa of basketball so I don’t understand

Just watched this today, I fell in love with European ⚽️ (via PES/FIFA video games) in college, and it took me a bit of time to understand all the leagues, and in-season tournaments, promotion/relegation. I’ve watched the nba since 91-92 as a kid. I’m 35, and I’ve shown a lot of people I know the beautiful game, ⚽️ I’m so excited that Silver is embracing the European approach, it started with sponsors on the jerseys, then the play-in, and now I can’t wait for the in-season tournaments! It’s natural to not like change, but the nba is growing GLOBALLY! Hope the purists and casual fans will love the direction the nba is headed! Lastly, with the in-season tournament, the 82 game schedule will obviously decrease.
I agree! It'll be fun seeing the best teams seriously go head-to-head against each other in a sudden-death game. Will also give us an idea on who the true contenders are
Adam Silver's not perfect but he is a very good commissioner who has done a lot of good for the NBA, especially when you compare him to commissioners of other leagues
Its looking like the in-season tournament would consist of every team playing 4 games. The teams that don't lose advance to the finals, while the teams that lose play for placing. I like the idea. The two top seeded teams get a bye in the first round. Thats typically how a 30 team tourny would run. Tourny would take place from December 23rd to January 1st with games being every two days or so.
Adam Silva is bar far the best commissioner in American sports. He is always thinking ahead and for the fans. When he is calling on Turner/Warner Bros to give the fans a way to watch Inside the NBA and the TNT games. Was such a great thing to here

Barkley good questions and props to Shaq for asking about the expansion teams. Most disappointing part is knowing espn/abc will continue after contract is up...
I think the NBA needs to implement some rule changes so that the officiating is more consistent and less frustrating for the players and the fans. I personally would like to see a change for fouls to be that the person who creates the contact is penalized, regardless of who has possession. This would minimize the amount of plays where people are jumping into others just to get a foul call - not really in the spirit of the sport. Another improvement could be a delayed penalty for flopping when there is no contact, such as a fine. It's frustrating for the fans to be able to see within seconds a clearly poor call (through replay), and there are many of these every game which seem to be pivotal to the outcome.
I agree with you on the flipping part, but jumping Infront of a player with the ball to get a charge has been part of the game for years. People are just getting really good at it. I see no reason to change it all. Do you play? It's one of the few ways you can legally slow down or stop an offensive player. Offense always has the advantage.
@@TheSakuragihanimichi yea, I agree with you. I don't think we need to penalize people looking to take a charge. I am thinking more about cases where people are jumping into the defender when on offense to try and get the foul call, even if it makes their shot attempt worse. I want the league to make it possible to play more competitive defense. Right now it seems like defenders are playing dodgeball rather than basketball.
@@gm2723 whichever works, telling you Vancouver has a massive basketball community and we still sell out Vancouver Grizzlies merchandise to this day and they left in 2001! Bring the NBA back to Seattle, Vancouver, Las Vegas, and Pittsburgh (if not Pittsburgh-Kansas City instead). Move New Orleans, Memphis, and Minnesota while including Pittsburgh or Kansas City to the Eastern Conference to balance both conferences out. Everyone is happy
No it won’t, the FA cup involves all levels of the football pyramid (so you can potentially have amateurs playing a premier league club), this will be more like the league cup, only premier league teams and no one cares about it (most teams rest their better players).
Part of me wants the Seattle Supersonics back. But part of me is still apathetic to the NBA. The league is fun to watch, but I'm not sure I care anymore. Beyond paying for cable, which gives a cut to the league, I'm not spending my hard earned money on a league that stole our team and then ignored us for all this time. I don't care how thoughtful and well-meaning Adam Silver is, they haven't done anything to make me feel valued as a fan. Oklahoma City has the rights to our championship too... I was 6 years old and that team is my earliest sports memory and I was inspired by Gus Williams, Dennis Johnson, "Downtown" Freddy Brown, Jack Sikma, Paul Silas, John Johnson, Lonnie Shelton, and Lenny Wilkins. They were my heroes! OKC didn't experience it, so why do they get to claim it? Because the NBA still respects dollars more than it's fans.

Valid point
wtf is european soccer 💀 I think you meant european football 😂
@@felixhuang4185 I’m from northern England I’m just quoting Adam silver and making sure people understand. You’re right though🤣 I meant European soccer specifically as that is where the champions league is held
Making something similar to FA CUP but within only the teams. Can’t do champions league cause not enough teams but can do an FA cup
@@kalohpaul4100 I just think it’s a significant change that people will never take seriously like best case scenario it’s going to be like winning the best record in your conference. The allure of the championship is just never going to be topped. The FA cup has been running for over 100 years and even fans don’t take the FA cup as seriously as other competitions (title, champions league) it’s clearly a cash grab and I just don’t understand
So much really good questions, but these answers are exactly what i expected!
I love a mid-season championship like competition. I think fans need to give it some grace & allow it to develop without the expectation of perfection/planning from the beginning. We all know that the playoffs is our favorite time of year ball…tv ball fans will encourage it!!!
No we don't stop it. This would be at the risk of further injury before the postseason even starts.
Only way players should get on board is if they reduce the number of regular season games in a season to acommodate this.
@@flash012234was it ever like this in the 90s? I swear dudes always get injured nowadays
@@AllBetzOffWell guys are a lot bigger and faster so there's more wear and tear on their bodies

Mad respect, thank you Adam!
NBA has to evolve. 💯 need an in-season tournament. People will mock it at first. Give it a few years though and teams will covet winning it.
no they wont when you have a push for the playoffs you think the in season tournament will matter HEEL NO the ONLY trophy that matters is the Larry at the end of the finals nothing else will ever matter

Noone can resist chuck's comedy, not even the commisioner and it may come off unprofessional if Silver laughs out loud that is why Chuck is doing his best not to throw in hilarious comments 😄. Adam Silver likes chuck, he even gave a huge shout out when he heard the chuck-lin friendship story.
After This I Am All Caught Up On The Business Side Of The NBA...Thank You Adam Silver For Doing Such A Great Job!!!!!! HEAT IN 5 Or SIX!!!!!
The winner of the mid season tourney should receive home court adv in every series no matter their record
In-season tournament is going to be fire
No it ain't keep the league the way it is if it aint broke don't fix it

Its looking like the in-season tournament would consist of every team playing 4 games. The teams that don't lose advance to the finals, while the teams that lose play for placing. I like the idea. The two top seeded teams get a bye in the first round. Thats typically how a 30 team tourny would run. Tourny would take place from December 23rd to January 1st with games being every two days or so.
they did not give him a easy interview
Man these guys asking all the technical questions. Wasn't expecting that but super interesting.
Give seattle their team back already ffs
And name it Seattle Superhipsters
Seattle antifas
Seattle Seagulls 🦤
it’s coming in 2026, don’t worry
I was looking for this comment… thank you! Bring back my SONICS!!
Adam Silva is bar far the best commissioner in American sports. He is always thinking ahead and for the fans. When he is calling on Turner/Warner Bros to give the fans a way to watch Inside the NBA and the TNT games. Was such a great thing to here
He can also possibly bring the NBA back to NBC where they belong from the get go
I'd love to see basketball back in both Seattle and Cincinnati. And I love to see a Vegas and either Tampa or Kansas City or Louisville or St Louis or Mexico City
Man Adam Silver is such a class act and so even keel. Seems like a great leader.
Love how nbatv got him and not abc

Good stuff Adam!
Adam is so well spoken and has such a perfect rebottle for every single question. It’s very hard to believe that they didn’t script this interview and then run the interview back on television. I know they didnt but still his rebuttals amazing
adam silver presents himself very well and talks with the utmost clarity. very fond of that trait.
the mid season tournmanet could work if its towards the holiday/new year season and is for a ton of money, like $30 million+ for the winning team.
also need expansion teams in

Seattle
Las Vegas
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Man said it’s no nights off in the league now. That’s all they do is take nights off😂😂
If they take nights , thy won't be eligible to win Mvp

Who’s the best league commissioner in sports? It has to be him, Manfred sucks, Goodell is a bum, Bettman practically rigs his own league, and let’s not talk about Infantino and fifa. Thank you Mr. Silver for actually taking time out to try and be as transparent as you can be.
Adam Silver is The Best Sports Commissioner Bar None!

@@PAOLO-xv1bh Player involvement is assimilating into this 21st century.
Barkley good questions and props to Shaq for asking about the expansion teams. Most disappointing part is knowing espn/abc will continue after contract is up...
NBA is going to return to NBC; Amazon is going to go hard for the NBA and TNT and NBA still continue the relationship.
Seattle Supersonics 🙏🏽
Inside the NBA should be accessible to all fans. I am not surprised he brought that up because he wants the fan base to grow.
They probably will make changes; hopefully covering flagrant fouls too, but this is usually off season talk. Could’ve been cool if they asked tho
Shaq with the best questions. He came prepare, good job Big fella.
Please expand to Vancouver, Seattle, and Las Vegas
Vegas needs a baseball team, although basketball has more rigging, so I guess it is more suited to Vegas.
@@gm2723 whichever works, telling you Vancouver has a massive basketball community and we still sell out Vancouver Grizzlies merchandise to this day and they left in 2001! The NBA has been fortunate to have men like Silver and Stern as commissioners.
I think the in season tournament should be for the teams that didn’t qualify for the Play in at the end of the season for the #1 pick in the Draft. And the winner of that tournament cannot enter the following year.

adam silver if you want the nba to be a global sport maybe you should support it by making better ways for people to access nba games online. no more bs and regional blackouts too.

Respect to Silver for wanting to make games more available
the fact that h is flexing that the last 5 MVPs have been international players makes it seem like that his what the NBA wanted.

The Adam Sliver idea is interesting but I think the teams that compete in the tournament should be the ones who didn’t make the Playoffs fighting for their own ‘’Larry o Brian’’ Trophy not all teams what do you guys think?

@@zo62 whilst I agree with that I can guarantee they are up there in the jersey sales per season, Miami is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country due to its nightlife etc. and the heat are one of the most prestigious basketball franchises so whilst it may not have a significantly high population it’s one of two basketball clubs in Florida which is the 3rd biggest state in America so I just don’t get how that can be seen as a small market place
