Fantastic series and I’m particular, this episode. Outstanding performance by Peter Falk, and a lovely Inger Stevens. One of my favorite dramas on tv! 👏👍♥️
Just one more thing. Were so lucky Peter Falk only lost his eye to cancer when he was a baby or we would have missed his great performances as an actor.
@@larryc8568 LMAO My ancestors came through the front door. They didn't sneak in through the back door illegally, wearing new clothes and carrying new cell phones to commit more crimes while being parasites!
Out of the blue, my mother mentioned this movie to me. All she remembered was that it was one of Falk’s first films and that she was impressed with his acting. So ... I looked it up and we watched it together.
I remember my Mom and Dad watching this with me. I don't think network heads in LA and NY realized what an impact a show like this had on ordinary Midwesterners. My mom still talked about it years later. The Price of Tomatoes. I never forgot it either. Thank you so much. It's also in the Paley archives, but I don't know how to get in without paying.
This is a wonderful story; Falk and Stevens were magic together. He really enjoyed their time working on this. I think he even went to her memorial service in 1970. There's a copy of it at the UCLA film archive also.
Peter Falk repeated his Award Feat the very next year (1962): receiving his Emmy Award nomination for this episode of “The Dick Powell Show”, and his second consecutive Academy Award nomination for “Pocketful of Miracles”. Although he would never win the Oscar, Falk did nab ten more Emmy nominations (and four wins) for his iconic role as Lt. Columbo.
reminds me of a movie with Richard Conte : Thieves 'Highway. Apples, not tomatoes was the cargo in that film. And it's free [as of November 1, 2021] on RUclips! Thieves' Highway 1948, USA Richard Conte, Valentina Cortese, Lee J. Cobb Film Noir Full Movie - RUclips
8:00 that guy really has some nerve assuming that the driver won't mind taking any hitchhikers. Sure, this maybe about helping a person in need, but what if the driver wasn't so kind? Then this guy would be just being an a$$hole to driver by assuming things without asking first and to this woman by wrongly reassuring her.
It showed the Swindle truck ahead of him but then he passed them with their truck broken down by the side of the road. And he shouted, “Get a horse”as he passed them. 🐴🐴🐴🐎🐎🐎
Columbo you're doing a great deed helping Inger Stevens but you got to stop yelling at her when you become a detective for the Los Angeles Police Department you can yell
Love Peter Falk I respect Dick Powell This Movie is Propaganda My Parents were WOPS...They waited...they Married on Ellis Island...waiting to come in Legally and with Papers... Keep in mind that there were no immigration rules then. Ellis Island was only a clearing site. You could not be illegal then. My grandparents and mother came in this way.

An actual, real refugee. Big difference from what's going on now. Amazing story. Love Falk.
And how is it different today? People are coming here for a better life, just like my ancestors and your ancestors.

I like Peter Falk as Leutenant Frank Columbo.
The telephone exchange for Orangevale California in 1962 was UConn spell Yukon
If he drives to San Francisco he'll be 40 days behind schedule

40:21 Apparently the director didn't know what a clutch is for.
What's with the repeated footage at the end? I see this on a lot of videos.
👍
I would not have gotten involved . . . .
that's how he earned the nickname of open-borders falk

You couldn't find a hispanic woman to play the part so they brought in inger stevens?
She is suppose to be, "Romanian." Did you not watch the film? Guess they couldn't find a Romanian actress?
Did he ever make it 🤣 they just ended it there, I’m assuming he did.
