I remember when they came out to the Washington County Fair up in Hillsboro, Oregon....that was badass!
I remember my mom listening to this song over and over after my father left us. It always mad me sad to hear it and I did not know who sang it. Now I have discovered Freddy Fender and I love this song. Though this version not so much. The accordion makes it sound too polka less blues. Just my 3¢.

I pity the fools who dislike this song
omg people dont know !?! lol damn them .

Oh, what ever happened to great music?
Sadly enough rap and hip-hop took over.
I clearly remember the CANTEENS at Edgewood High School--60s.
Girls were girls--ladies were ladies then!
Then some bastards would steal your shoes while you were dancing! LOL LOL.
It really does not matter--we had a good time!
Jose Trevino - I also went to Edgewood HI. school, 34th street and Elridge st. in the 60's, the sock rock dance canteens ,held on Wed. nites were out of this world, fantastic. Every week some of the greatest bands would play, sunny and sunglos, later renamed Sunliners, Doug Salm and Markays, Gilbert n Blue notes, to name just a few would play , we all had a great time. Go Edgewood HIGH .The school has been converted to a cultural center. The last time I visited there was in 2001. I was overwhelmed by the emotional feeling, walking the hallways, thinking that in '64 - '68 there were almost 3,000 students every year. what great times those were.
Jose Trevino - I forgot to state that Edgewood HI. is in the greatest city in USA- SAN ANTONIO. I've been in many other cities ,but none compare to San Antonio, people here know how to have fun. The other cities I visited were too rigid, too uptight, with all due respect. if you ever visit S.A. you will stay here. Very friendly atmosphere.
Was this band Freddy fenders only band think he sings better on his own

Were they legal or illegal in the US ?
They are Americans, from Texas.

This song is a ripoff of Professor Longhair's "Those Lonely, Lonely NIghts". It's a GOOD ripoff, though.
