I have no shame in admitting that for the first time since I jumped on iRacing in 2011 and got triples 3 years ago I finally have a properly set FOV thanks to you. This is a MUST WATCH for drivers new to iRacing or to triples, so glad I stumbled across this. Thank you, Tommy.

This changed my life!!! I'm very nitpicky about having things setup correctly and for the longest time I thought I had my FOV and camera settings set correctly, but something always felt off in each car and I was constantly having to adjust on the fly after stumbling on your video I knew I needed to start over. After following your steps every car feels perfect the view is more realistic and feels great, It literally put a smile on my face. I watched this video and after accepting the fact that that less fov is better in some cases. This is one of them. All FOV calculators I've tried have recommended an FOV far too narrow. This app suggested 56° and my comfortable FOV is 85-90, depending on the sim 😂 If I used the recommended setting it would feel like the camera was zoomed in and the rotation point would be messed up. It would also cause me motion sickness.
In my 20+ years simracing I've had everything from small single screens, to triples, to VR and now a super ultrawide. I've tried all the FOV calculators there are and never found a settings that felt correct. I think the issue is they are trying to calculate a correct FOV for a 3d space while working with a 2d medium.
At the end of the day set what feels natural and comfortable to you. Be extra careful with these calculators if you are susceptible to motion sickness.

When you do it for each car, do you have to save it as Carcam F1, Carcam Ferrari, Carcam F3 etc etc or is it always just saved as the CarCam default?

    • @neildradford
      @neildradford Год назад +1

Just save each car as car.cam, they are saved in separate folders relating to each car model so same name is ok to use. For testing purposes you could always save more than one set up by using a different name alongside the car.cam, for example high.cam, low.cam etc etc. Each version will be saved in the folder for that car.

IRacing noob here. I literally installed it last night and playing for my first time today. Using the MX5 cup. I followed this video and adjusted up to the point of Orient X. I haven't fixed the warping issue yet. But the car is still feeling slow. You hear the engine going up in revs but it doesn't feel like the car is moving any faster. Is it my settings or the car is just slow? I also tried the BMW M2 and though that's a faster car it still seems like the image is slower than what it should be.
I'm using 32" triples, width with bezel is 28", distance is 23" from my eyes. The calculator said my fov is 144. That being said, in the MX5 the head bolster blocks my view of the right mirror. Though that might be how it's supposed to be? Help please!

Best FOV video I ever watched. But you don’t mention how important the distance from your eyes to the monitor is. Is closer always better? I would think the closer you can get, the more it will feel slowed down and help you hit your marks more easily when driving.

Hi! That was a really good video! I understand why FOV is important. I’m currently transitioning from the usual 110 FOV to 83 on a 32:9 curved monitor. Driving feels pretty uncomfortable at the moment; I still need to get used to it. For now, I’m overbraking every corner. :D
Unfortunately, I can’t bring the monitor closer than 77 cm, and in a few weeks, a new base will arrive, which might force me to move the monitor even a bit further away.
I find it strange that even a 4-5 cm difference in monitor distance changes the FOV a lot. However, I often move my head forward and back by that much during racing. My head isn’t always tilted back as it was during measurement.
Is it possible to be a bit more flexible with this, or is it really as set in stone as many RUclips videos make it seem?

i know this is old but with the tape measure, just put the back of the case to your forehead and measure to screen, on the bottom of the tape case there should be a number on the case. like 78mm. that's the measure of the case, so what ever the tape says, you then ad that number to it and you will get to true measure to your eyes and the screen,

Hi Tommy, what about single monitors that are quite far from the seat ? Calculating my FOV it tells me that it should be 32 degrees, despite using a 43 inches monitor. Of course in this way the track feels much compressed and far from real size/proportions, and the sense of speed is also of course ridiculously slow. Is the only option to get the screen closer to the seat ? If this can’t be done, is there any FOV degrees limit I shouldn’t go below regardless the distance ?

@@TommyBrandon Hey Thommy, thank you very much for the feedback and sorry that I'm so late in getting back to say thank you... I watched your 4-part setting tutorial, tried to understand it and implemented it. A deviant, good driving feeling after the conversion.
I can certainly address you again if I have further questions about "perfect", visual adjustments???

Amazing video, and what a difference to the graphics and visuals. Now feels as if I am truly there! Only issue is my FPS has now dropped from 120 to 53. I run a 3090RTX with an i9 i9-12900k Hexadeca Core Processor and ASUS Z690 ROG Maximus Hero D5 ATX motherboard. Any advice?

Is David Tucker wrong from iRacing ? This is a quote from a 2023 post "In the camera tool your not driving so you can set it however you want. However if you screen shotted it, then jumped into the car, you would see it reverted to however the FOV calculator is set. In fact as soon as you close the camera tool it reverts to the FOV calculator.
The camera tool is really an internal tool that I cleaned up and exposed to everyone. It has some quirks and this is one of them."

Why do RUclipsrs talk all about websites, but never include the links in the description? Baffles me.
