#GWM #tank300 #review Авто/Мото
Hey everyone, just confirming GWM has updated the torque figure for the Tank 300 Hybrid. It's now 648Nm - this update supersedes the figure we used in our video.
Surely the max torque is only there momentarily until the battery gets flat.
Lol
@@doneB830clearly you do not know how the battery works in this hybrid system
A friend of mine bought one in Australia and honestly that car has changed my view on Chinese cars. Great car
Test drove this car today and it performed excellently. No problems at all, and the speed was impressive. I disabled all the extra safety features, naturally. While it's easy to find flaws in anything, I suggest taking it for a test drive if you're interested. It's best to experience it for yourself rather than just taking someone else's word. Also the parking features blew my mind - very cool!
Hey mate, i was waiting for the gwm alpha to drop in June with the twin turbo v6 petrol but from all accounts that matter, we are pnly get the 2.4L diesel and this 2L phev. How long does the electric motor stay active for under full throttle? Trying to get info is like drawing blood from a stone. I might have to test drive the phev tank and judge based off the weight difference.
Some of us don't have the ability to test drive and that's why we watch videos to gain insight. Why would you watch this video then test drive it again?
@@FuckTheSystem1987 Varies mate - 20-30km ... but depends how much gas u give it - but downhill - its 100% EV - so good. 30km trip downhill all EV - plus you dont need to brake due to the reg braking.
@@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 I test drove the HEV and petrol 2x each - had the petrol on for a weekend drove 300km - as second guessed my HEV purchase. HEV is better so kept it.
How was the turning circle ?
From Montréal, Canada here. I love this channel. Your review format is great, useful, entertaining and thorough. It's also fun to me because there are many similarities, but also differences between our car markets, so it's nice to compare. I especially love these reviews of vehicles we don't get, like these ones from Chinese brands.
Keep it up!
In Australia we never mention the ' heater ' in a car test.😅
@@mvnorsel6354 true! And here a very base model Corolla (as an example) comes standard with heated seats, and more and more even heated steering wheel.
As a Chinese I can tell you that the Tank 300 is an absolutely shit.
作为一个中国人我可以告诉你,坦克300绝对让人满意
As a Chinese, I dare say that the GWM tank 300 and tank 500 are wonderful.
Because of these new products of GWM, similar products that used to be best-selling Japanese brands have been forced to cut prices sharply but still have poor sales.
My standard tank is awesome, orange and I love the colour. I hope people test drive one because they are amazing value and quality.
Less talk more action

@@paddypath9548 This car has been sold in China for several years, the biggest criticism of the owner is the fuel consumption of 13/100km, but as an off-road vehicle, considering his power and price, this car is already very friendly in the same class, you can't want an off-road vehicle and at the same time want him to have the fuel consumption of a sedan, this is unfair, in general in China this car has a very good reputation, of course you can choose a more expensive car with a better experience
Not hybrid? Has it got enough go??
Thanks for that
Was curious about the hybrid for a while now
I do fancy the hybrid though😊
Best Tank Review I've seen today. Great job Thank you.
Hey mate, Thanks for the review.
I am now the proud owner of a Lux Hybrid. I ordered a red one back in April, by the time it got to me it had turned grey.
I have also test driven the Ultra petrol model, so have a few points that may be of interest to you and your subscribers.
AWD + 4L vs. 2H + 4H + 4L
It was not until I picked my hybrid up that I found out that the traditional 2H (rear wheels) + 4H (presumably without a front/rear diff) for offroad only + 4L selection was, in fact, only 2 options of AWD + 4L. Something that could be elaborated upon.
Still working out how the hybrid drive works in AWD mode. I find that when sitting at a stop with the engine running and then punch it to get across a lane of traffic, it responds with the speed of the base model. On the other hand, if the engine stops while waiting and I floor it, the electric kicks in instantly and I'm propelled through the intersection with no lag. Flooring the petrol only model gives you a decent half-second of lag between flooring and response.
Often, when softly accelerating from a stop, like in traffic, the display shows only the rear wheels being driven by the electric motor. So maybe the electric motor is only coupled to the rear axel??
No Michelin tyres on the Lux Hybrid. Previous reviews have specifically mentioned the fact that they came with Michelins from factory, which is odd for a Chinese made car. Well, mine came with Hankook tyres, but your Ultra Hydrid has Michelins?? Odd.
Thanks! Anthony
How do you find the car so far in driving?
@@7ish4m The body roll is quite noticeable, even at speeds around 70km/h, and there is an appreciable lag in acceleration when flooring it (as the computer figures out what to do with the Petrol and Electric motors). Cheers
Some good insight from your ownership viewpoint - thanks .
Ive test driven x 2 hybrids - and love the things overall
Power is really great - especially in sport . they may have some lag at times , but mostly i found the power effortless in most condition s
Im picking up a new Lux this week 😊
@@johnrenehan7406 congratulations my man. Greetings from Dubai 🥂
I personally think the rear suspension can be firmer and may resolve some of the corning and breaking issues - most Aus suspension tuning are like that.
Everyone complaining about the payload here’s a simple solution.Don’t buy this car if you want to tow and carry the family. This suits people not towing and a bit of fun 4 wheel driving here and there .
Nah but we want the rest of the car and at this price, just with a higher towing capacity. 😊
@@mattross83😂😂😂
I have the Petrol Turbo Ultra with 2 inch lift and aggressive AT tyres. Taken it through Bunyip in the wet and it's an absolute weapon. Created a stir with the other users on the tracks...mainly Patrols and Cruisers. Not that they wanted it as they are brand loyal, but definite respect. They were all very impressed watching what it could do and were coming up asking lots of questions.
You glad you didn’t get the hybrid? How’s it go up long steep roads - enough torque or is it stuck in the slow lane! Thanks for any info
Im with you , I would go the non hybrid and do a mild tune. Plenty of power for offroad. The hybris also has more weight and the battery only charging when breaking is a deal breaker. I would rather tune a 4 cyl and have consistent power. Great video
Hi Paul. 😊 The motors specs have been updated for the hybrid ultra I own one. Power 255kw and 648nm see page 8 of latest gwm brochure cheers
lol
Great review Paul
Please can you do a towing test(real world) ? I'm curious how hybrid systems cope.
You're the best Paul, great review.
Great review. Keep them coming 😊
Perhaps use the downhill descent control next time and use the off road cruise on the bumpy stuff?
Or even put it "rock" mode.
I like the Tank 300. I had high hopes for the hybrid but $10,000 extra is rediculas. I'd get the top range non hybrid version.
Soon, the Tank 330 will appear, equipped with a 3.0TT engine. There is also a PHEV version available, so I believe you will have more choices.
Hybrid has lower using cost.
@yanjiangli-lq9pg doubt it. The cannon alha was supposed to get the tt v6, not approved for Australian market. Climate change greenies are killing this country.
Yes agree , but now in mid 24 , you can get good deals on both hybrid versions - which bring the cost much closer to the stock petrol prices
Can't believe you missed driving the 5-door Jimny XL!
About to buy the Tank Ultra, one more week to wait!!
nice! How are you finding it so far?

The tank looks nice
Hello pual, I was just wondering if you could/can you please review the tank 500 ultra hybrid please.
Hey Paul
When are you doing byd seal review.
Cheers
Given the Tank doesn't have a massive fuel payload like a Prado, I was hoping they'd use the hybrid to give it economy ajnd cruising range. Ideally I was hoping it could get a 1000+km range like the H6 hybrid. I'm not sure what I'd do with the power and torque if it's not fit to tow or has a small 350kg payload. No need to race it and GWM suspension is all too soft on most of their cars.
Well , i can tell you a few good things to do with all the extra power it offers - most of them best done on unpoliced roads though 😂
Great review
Do hybrids like this ever give you full power from both engines? Do you ever actually get 260kw and 615Nm or do the electronics manage the combo of engines so that there is a broader (but lower) torque curve? Say max combined torque of 450Nm but spread across a wide rev range as a varying combo of petrol/electric?
Would be interesting to get a hybrid like this on the dyno vs the non hybrid with the same petrol engine.
Plenty of hybrids engage both engines when you floor them.
I get that they use both, but do you get the max output of both engines at the same time? I drive a Tuscon hybrid for work. Came out of a Mondeo. Both 6spd, similar weight, power should technically favour the Tuscon (170 vs 150kw) and torque is lineball. However, other than off the line, seat of the pants would hand the Mondeo any performance award. Once off the line the Tuscon feels allot more like it's 130kw/ 265 than 170/350. It isn't slow exactly, but I was surprised that it does not feel like the headline numbers.
Strange to see one with the rear wheels on the ground😅.
Can we please see an in-depth off road review?
I believe this version is for the performance not for saving fuel. When you driving a v8, you want the performance not saving fuel right? Latest technology gives you that but not cost you an arm and leg.
In the two different demo's I drove both had a massive problem with them when accelerating away from a stop while turning (for example turning right at an intersection) and they took off under electric power but halfway through the turn they engaged the petrol engine with a huge shunt that violently surged through the vehicle. It's as though the electric engine was spinning the drivetrain at the equivalent petrol engine speed of about 3000 rpm and then suddenly decided it didn't have enough grunt to continue and tried to engage the petrol engine from 0 to 3000 rpm instantly. Certainly not smooth and could reproduce it on both cars, multiple times.
I saw one on the road
They look really cool in metal
Hi Paul, have you thought of making a mogul, but on a relatively steep hill, to add an extra challenge to off road testing.
If it failed the mogul it could push the sidestep up into the doors - if they even have a sidestep.
The battery doesn't only charge when you brake, it charges when only the engine is running and also when you roll without braking.
There is a power management on the dash that you see when you get power output and input into the hybrid battery.
TANK 300 is the best selling sport SUV in China.
What is the app on your phone giving you 0 to 100 times? Plz :)
Could be the Race box, two models need a phone app to report the results. While the higher end model has a display.
black color looks cool.
Hello Paul, I'm sorry to bother you. Well, I'm going to buy a new car, but the two models I'm looking at are Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2024 and GWM Tank300 Ultra. Which car do you think is good? Which one do you like?
I just looked at the ANCAP website, specifically the GWM Tank, how is it possible for a car to obtain a ANCAP 5 Star rating when it is unable to retain all 4 tyres on the ground during heavy breaking.
For me that just does not pass the pub test.
Because ANCAP is an organisation desperate for relevance after the end of local car manufacturing.
ANCAP also award stars to crap assistance technology that is actually dangerous and you can't keep it turned off.
ANCAP doesn't do brake testing. They test how the vehicle protects occupants, vunrable road users, and how the safety assist systems function. Same as EuroNCAP and the NHTSA/IIHS (except they don't have any pedestrian testing).
@@CarExpertAus This comment has just discredited you as a journalism site. How about giving the actual facts about how Ancap gave it 5 stars. WOW!

I'm interested in the tank but I'll wait until a real hybrid version is made. One that is comparable to the RAV 4 hybrid.
rav4 is just a urban SUV. tank is a proper off-roader😅
Would love to buy the non hybrid model. But we don't have a GWM dealership in our country. 😐
Which country is that?
Lucky you!
Unfortunately in the Philippines, the petrol version is no longer affordable luxury.
I would imagine the drivetrain is very similar to the one in the new GWM Cannon Alpha hybrid ute that should be on sale soon.
😎🇦🇺👍
awaiting in Europe for this car
does it still go up on 2 wheels when breaking hard?
likely not with the big heavy battery in the boot. lol.
I respect the Tank, it fills a lot of the gaps left by the overpriced Wrangler and barebones Jimmy, but the breaks are just awful and the Hybrid isnt worth the price increase imho.
Not many SUV's can transform into a motorcycle.😅
Suspension could be tuned better or firmer at the rear, but most Chinese cars have softer ride.
It seems like a really good car for the price but like all these new cars from these newer brands I think people like myself would feel a lot more comfortable purchasing them if they had guaranteed buy back prices. I’m just worried that in 3 years time it could be worth bugger all and you’d be never be able to trade it in or sell it for a reasonable price.
Great review as always Paul.
Cheers Pat
There’s no resale value on Chinese vehicles you just gotta accept what you can get, most dealer won’t accept them as trades either. Buying cheap always ends up more expensive

Tank should have diesel hybrid
None of these reviews takes a look at actual city, start and stop driving with the hybrid - where it should offer an advantage. It seems that it would deliver much lower operating costs. You don't want a hybrid just for highway or off-road driving.
Urban driving (light foot hyper miling) should achieve between 7-8L/100km.
Look man this doesn't look like a city car
It does look Gangster 😎 Fo' Shizzle
It looks a bit like a Lada Niva from the front.
Can you load up a Tank with 5 passengers, perhaps some luggage for a day trip and run it on the scales? It can't legally carry what it is designed to hold with it's piddly payload rating of 397-420kg. 5 average adults would put it on the limit.
You'd think this would be a pretty important piece of information to bring up as many families not knowing any better will just load it up and be overweight.
Yeah, because all adults weigh the same hey? haha. It has to be on th ebuyer to do their own research, everyone wants others to give them all the answers.
0:08 , Paul , are you sure we all have been 'hustling' you for this?!😅

Can you drive electric only around town? Or is it just combined?
Up to 40km ie around a parking lot after you just start it - but engine will start soon enough.

There is currently no hybrid version of the Tank 300 released in China, so the United States and Europe have to experience the Tank 300hev earlier than China.

It'd be in a different league if the just added a damn plug but they missed an opportunity.
The fact you had to let GWM know that the wheels left the ground under breaking really tells you how little development/testing these cars go through before they hit the market. The customer really is the tester for modern vehicles.
Despite the tank300 has been on the market for good 3 years, tested and got thrown into the toughest road condition you could find in China. Never heard of a single case of brakeing issue. Unless you plan to go offroading with ZERO payloads in the back, i don't see why people so fussing over the rear wheel thing.
@@lcy2004vip Never heard of a single braking issue ? Did you literally not watch the video ? The point isn't being made about braking off-road it's about emergency braking on road. If you were to slam your breaks on in a corner and the back wheels leave the ground you're going to spin or roll the vehicle. The fact that this wasn't picked up shows how little R&D goes into these vehicles.
@@ashcosmo3854 Did watch the video, and I was speaking of a good three years of record that zero brake failure occurred with 280,000+ tank300 sold and millions miles travelled.
