let me make wild guess is your wife (female host) indonesian her accent sounds like indonesian or filipino but the way she speak malay its soo indonesian
KT is my birthplace and my wife is from Selangor. My wife learned how to cook Nasi Dagang from my mom. It was from several attempts until my mom finally gave the thumbs up - tasted exactly as she would do it. Two months later, my mom passed away but the recipe lives on. Due to the fact that not all can stomach fish, my mom's recipe has 2 dishes, beef and fish. If you are in KL, come over. I will get my wife to cook nasi dagang for both of you (not daging) hehehe.
Try looking "pasar batu enam"..they had variety of kuih...like "jala emas"...laksam...and other..actually sometime i also eat nasi dagang like you did when visit my in-law house...my wife from terengganu
It's Teh Ais. In Terengganu, the word PENG after a drink name means Cold (drink). That means 'ais'. Milo ais = milo peng. Teh ais = teh peng. Meanwhile in Kelantan, it's almost similar but is BENG. Teh beng, milo beng. Teh tarik normally serve as hot/warm, but sometimes teh tarik also can put ice. It can contain foam and also serve as cold drinks. The one that you drink is an innovation of normal teh tarik ais but with more foam. Kelantan and Terengganu people called it jebok, means foam. You can called it Teh Jebok
Hi guys, just saw u 2 at china town this afternoon..(motor guy) u guys should go to seaside (batu buruk) at afternoon time 530 pm above.. enjoy the beach walk over there....
Hi,maybe u can try nasi campur with budu sauce which is fermented anchovy and also tempoyak at Restaurant Singgang Budu, Kuala Terengganu..or u can try The Panggung@Aroma Kampung Restaurant for the catfish curry with tempoyak .just for your reference 😁
It was a good attempt at the keropok lekor. Even for a local Malaysian, I didn't like it when I first ate it. Somehow it grows on you... I like the deep fried version and it has to be crispy not soggy. Good try guys!
The gravy.. thats like 50% of the dish. Intereating fact.. Terengganu state has the best education achievement in the country .. at least at high school level.. due to the population's main diet of fish ..
Its really a special treat to taste a delegacies of each state that I believes will definitely store fond memories in your adventure books ,have fun and special day ahead 👍🎥🎥🎥
Here, Tea tarik ice is called Tea Ice (tea w milk) while the normal Tea (no milk) is Tea-O Ice. Teh Peng is an improvised version of Teh Ice being pulled. So goood 🤤
This is the first time and maybe the only time I ever watch people eating Nasi Dagang without gravy...and still loving it...hahaha...hope you can give a try once again..with the gravy...😄😄 And as Terengganuan...I prefer fried keropok lekor...since it has lesser fishy taste compare to boiled keropok lekor....well both version have its own fan...
Tea peng is basically a teh tarik with ice in it. So you're not wrong 😂 "Peng" (or "Beng" in Kelantan) is used to denote "iced". So... Teh peng is "iced tea" 😁 the 'sambal' that comes with the keropok is not actually sambal. It's a dipping sauce which we just call 'sos'. It's made up of some chilli paste and some vinegar... Depending on each shop's recipe
You missed out the nasi dagang essential component; the mackerel tuna curry (kuah nasi dagang = literally translated as "nasi dagang's gravy"). It is slightly sweet than Indian curries. Local mackerel tuna (ikan tongkol) is its main protein ingredient; not chicken nor other meats can substitute it. The sweet gravy and rich coconut milk rice are inseparable pair in a proper nasi dagang plate. Another one is the vinegary cucumber+carrot+pineapple+onion/shallot pickles. Other components are basically add-ons that we normally don't include in our nasi dagang. You were eating Terengganu nasi dagang. We have a Kelantan variety that uses different rice; a special mix of white and brown rice. Its gravy is lighter coloured (yellowish) compared to Terengganu version that is darker. Kelantan nasi dagang also includes pickles and has a hardboiled egg that Terengganu version does not have.
Did you end up finishing the keropok lekor? Thats a lot to eat. We rarely eat the boiled version, just usually the fried version. There s another fried version in thin flat strips ( not as fishy) .Both fried versions are super yummy to eat when you dipped into that chili sauce. Do try nasi kerabu as well. Its blue rice and really yummy as well.
dont forget to try kuih akok panas and bahulu panas fresh from the traditional baked kitchen..this one you can get from street at the dungun..enjoy guys
if you guys are still up for keropok lekor challenge, try the innovated keropok lekor cheese. there's 2 types of cheese, one of them is called lava keropok lekor. situated at Bukit Tok Beng 15 minutes away from Kuala Terengganu City. waze - BTB2209
I think what you had was nasi lemak the terengganu kind. Nasi dagang served with fish gravy instead of the sambal. The boiled fish and the cucumber salad served both nasi.
Need to put more gravy (kuah) to it..ask for "kuah asing" or separate gravy if you want to try it bit by bit..can apply to everything like "sambal asing"-separate sambal..etc..
You cannot compare nasi dagang and nasi lemak Nasi dagang is more complicated to cook, more herbs, of course more flavourful and more delicious than nasi dagang.
Well in terengganu, they have nasi lemak not with anchovies sambal but with tuna sambal (sambal ikan tongkol) the same fish with nasi dagang.. now that would be awesome..
A couple of years ago, I was in Terengganu for about 2 weeks to film a documentary about the people of Terengganu, with a small filming crew of 8 people from KL. We literally ate all the time, non-stop, it was almost ridiculous. Every time we stopped filming, we ate. I think we did more eating than filming! The food there were delicious and the people were extremely nice and laid back. We even had random people inviting us to their homes to eat. We even met this Australian guy who is married to a local and been staying in a beautiful small village there for 20+ years. He said his wife keep asking if he wanted to move to or visit KL, as she has a few houses in KL, but he would turn back every time as soon as he sees KL from afar on the highway. He has adopted the kampung life and loves it. He keeps insisting that the real Malaysia is in the east coast, not the cities. Terengganu is a state with endless charm, wether it be with the people, the culture or food. It was an experience I will never forget and cherish forever. I hope you two will enjoy your stay in Terengganu as much as I did or more.
Nasi Lemak the coconut milk is boiled together with the rice. Nasi Dagang is steamed and halfway the coconut milk is poured separately, and then the rice is steamed again. Because it is steamed, that it is why it is not as sticky and as milky as Nasi Lemak.
6:10 It is similar because both teh tarik and teh ais/peng are milk tea. Tarik means "pull" and the act of pulling is what makes the foam. See this guy tarik 0:52. However, if you order teh tarik, they will serve you the hot one. If you want cold, you need to say teh ais/peng.
The next stop should be Nasi Kerabu Fauzi at the town center.. Terengganu is also popular with ikan celup tepung or tempura fish... you must try..however, the best stall called Warung Pok Nong in Kampung Telipok is about 15 km away from the city.. there is a state Museum not far from the city and you also can visit an Islamic Heritage Park where you can see famous Islamic Architecture from all over the world in miniature form
I'd prefer Nasi Dagang over Nasi Lemak. It is quite hard to find authentic Nasi Dagang in Sabah. Taste-wise they seem to fail in replicating the same as in Terengganu. The light rice, the thin tuna curry and the lightly pickled cucumber made the dish very appealing to me. I ate lots of them last year when I was in Terengganu.
OMG! I miss that Nasi Dagang Atas Tol. Personally, I think they serve one of the best nasi dagang. Or maybe the best. Tbh, it’s very hard to find good one. Like extremely hard. You can find them in KL and sometimes some other states. But you wouldn’t be impressed by it.
And damn. Keropok (lekor) Losong. I love it so much I literally import them from Terengganu every other months hahaha. And you can’t keep them for long you know. Not even in the freezer. The keropok lekor in KL can’t even compare to Losong.
Most Malaysians except people of Terengganu will always prefer fried keropok lekor over the boiled version. You can try budu next, the superfood of Terengganu. It's fermented fish sauce full of nutrients with superb umami taste 🤣.

Most traditional fish is boiled with sugar palm. Dats why it so nice n sweet
Nasi dagang trrengganu is made of combination rice and glutten rice.or sticky rice. The seed that Ivana found is called 'halba'..

U guys have to try 'sotong goreng tepung'. Deep fried squit with flour. Signature dish in Terengganu 👍
The big point to enjoy nasi dagang is the taste with wet & more of gravy.
You should try it again, with the 'kuah'/fish curry.
That keropok lekor you try was cook or half cook!! We usually fry again when we reach home.
Well the tree main nasi..nasi lemak..nasi dagang..nasi kerabu...the side..nasi goreng😂the main thing...sambal😋

or fried ikan rebus/singgang with budu...
With nasi dagang you should eat with more kuah. Looks dried.
Nasi Lemak the coconut milk is boiled together with the rice. Nasi Dagang is steamed and halfway the coconut milk is poured separately, and then the rice is steamed again. Because it is steamed, that it is why it is not as sticky and as milky as Nasi Lemak.
you guys should meet mat dan .He will brings you guys tour Kuala Terengganu
only in Teregganu you can try best Nasi dagang
You can find a slightly different version of nasi dagang in kelantan.
Notice the different kind of rice.
