I can only imagine the hilarity... Calendale has a penchant for fubaring complex (and even not-so-complex) rules ... and then basing his judgments on his misconceptions!!
Played La Bataille de Leipzig, but it did not go more than a few turns due to bad Austrian attack (due to bad Austrisn rolls and great French tolls) and rules disputes.
I have played this series using the more recently published games from Legion Games. The rules were fairly clear, so perhaps they have made changes from when this was published. Sorry to hear that your game was a bust. Usually, die rolls will average out over time. Thanks for sharing!
SPI publsihed " Battle of Nations" in their Napoleon at War QUAD - folio size - 100 counters - Napoleon at War rules - I "blew it up" (enlarged the map/counters to about table-size) then presented the game at a local K.C. Mo. historical gaming convention !!! It was "my first time" presenting at a convention for people to play -had 5 players (2 French/3 Allies) and we couldn't finish in the time-slot we had at the convention but the players enjoyed it ! There are MANY FOLIO-SIZED BATTLES that could be "blown-up" to make a better gaming experience without the 50-pages of rules ( Gettysburg,, etc.) ?
DAMN!!!! That is a heee-yooooooooooge map!!! Did this ever get Vassalized? Couldn't help but notice Breitenfeld and neighboring Podelwitz on the Mockern section. Throwbacks to the 30 Years War!! 😄 Wasn't a big fan of the gradated color on the counters. Pretty garish, and the rather neutral colors of the map wouldn't do much to knock down the "dazzle" effect. Is the game system *similar* to La Battaille, and if so, most similar to which "flavor" of LB rules?
Doesn't look like a Vassal module exists. The game system has similarities to La Bat, so it wasn't very hard to pick up and play Hanau and their 4 Spanish battles. What I like about it was the ability to deploy your units into various formations. This gives players some tactical choices that are often missing from regimental scale games.
@@EricsTableNapoleonicBattles I've seen some stuff on Hanau, now that you mention it, and with the double-width/height counters. I would've thought that would be at perhaps a half-scale larger than regimental? If so, imagine how big the map'd be if it were at 100 - 125 yds/hex!!! 😮
I played “A Time For Trumpets “ 5 maps , 2304 ( clipped) counters…one monster game is enough…purchased COA Quatre Brass and downloaded Marie Louise rules
Yes, I have been to Consim EXPO and there were a few massive WW2 games! Regarding QB, that is a fun and challenging battle. The ML rules work well for it either solitaire or face-to-face. Good luck!
If unplayed, until now, I think this game has met its conquerer in you. Vive l'Empereur Eric.
No promises. 😉
I believe that Calandale did a play-through of this on his channel.
Cool. I will have to check it out.

I've been looking for a copy for a long time!
Kev, I was just lucky! I saw it posted on FB Consim Marketplace and snatched it up.

Thanks for sharing this. What an interesting idea. As I get older, I am beginning to appreciate the games with larger components.
I've been looking for this for quite a while, but never found a copy for a price I was willing to pay!
I found it on Facebook Consim Marketplace. It was a fair price. Much less than what I had seen on Ebay or BGG.
@@EricsTableNapoleonicBattles, very cool! Unfortunately my wife says I have to spend a lot less time on Consim Marketplace .... lol !

Thanks Mark. Take care of yourself.

I recently received “The Pratzen, Austerlitz, 1805” published by Canvas Temple Publishing. Looks interesting. Do you have it (yet)?
I looked at it when it was in the kickstarter phase, but passed on pledging. I haven’t looked at it since. Perhaps I will check it out. Thanks.
I enjoyed the system, waterloo was big enough....
Cool. I didn't realize they had a Waterloo game from this series. Thanks!
Did you actually play it ?
Not yet. I was thinking to organize a game for a convention where I could find enough space, time and players!
