Nothing, the core layup with honeycomb polypropylene and foam is the same and the manufacturing process w intentional slight core crushing is also identical to the Gen 3. The only thing Joola toned down is the surface grit for a little less spin.

It’s my understanding that the “grit” is a result of the weave of the peel ply since the carbon fiber on most paddles isn’t woven but unidirectional.

Peel ply is just a sheet they use to apply texture/grit on the surface layer of the paddle and is peeled away
I like the new Mod also it is a keeper.

It's definitely a possibility. This paddle is already a risky buy due to the whole Gen 3 ban situation, I'm just here to share my observations 👍

Are u sure swingweight it is 5 digits less because JOHNKEW said it’s the same swingweight on his video today ??
I must have gotten an exceptionally light unit because I did the test again just now and got averages of 113.19 (Mod) and 117.85 (Gen 3) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
