Thanks for this way of reviewing sports of equipment. Impressions while playing specific shot type is more engaging than talking head with b-roll overlays. I really enjoyed watching it. I know "is this too much power" is not your debate, but I hope natural skill set and physical size parity reigns supreme in pickleball. I see pickleball working best when players strategically open up the court spaces and go for power kills...like a goal in soccer.
Thank you for the feedback! I come from golf where advances in equipment can provide a slight edge from time to time. So I totally understand what you’re saying, I think as equipment standards get squared away there will be slight edges from manufacturer to manufacturer at any point in time in history but nothing drastic. Appreciate the feedback!
@xangelodeathx7742 Yes, let’s hear some specifics on the Mod Ta-15 vs the new 3S. What’s the primary differences and what do you mean ‘more solid overall’?
I am understanding more solid as a more consistent feel across the whole paddle face and probably no breaking in period or change to paddle performance over time. I do think the MOD may have a little more power but I preferred my drops with the 3s. Just my two cents!
After one year of learning and playing pickleball, I was ready to upgrade from my beginner control paddle. I bought the Joola Gen 3 Scorpeus 16mm in April 2024, and it was the perfect fit for me. I loved using it. However, after a few weeks, the paddle sound changed dramatically. I was told that the paddle "core crushed." I returned the paddle during the Joola drama period. My *question* is, will the new Joola 3S paddles core crush as well?
From what Joola has stated, the 3s has an improved core for more stability. I read into that like core crushing shouldn’t be an issue but as I find out more I’ll let you know.
@JoshJPickleball Update: I ordered the Joola 3S Scorpeus paddle last week and it was delivered yesterday. I played with it today. 😁 The paddle is amazing!!! 🙌🫡🏓
About the McGuffin 16mm - do you think it's head heavy? (elongated paddles usually are, for me, but I tried out a friend's Perseus and it felt ridiculously well-balanced.. was wondering about this one) 🤔
Yes, the mcguffin 16 is more head heavy than the Perseus but not an overwhelming amount in my opinion. I put lead on the throat and some on the upper corners and it feels nice
so i just got my hyperion 3s 14mm. I can say its like a baby mod. Easy to control and easy to speed up and the swing weight seems low. My resets has been on point and the sweet spot has been pretty good. im a 4.7 player. If you are a beginner or intermediate i do recom the scorpeus.
Great questions - personal preference though shape matters. Perseus has longer handle and typically plays better for someone with stronger tennis background or at a higher level. Larger sweet spot and more control on Scorpeus.
Thank you. Could you please compare ability to shape ball trajectory with top spin for Magnus . Is it true that 16” version provides almost 500RPM less than 14” version?
Yea good question, this paddle will definitely give you good top spin. As any elongated paddle will but I feel like j got more top with the Magnus than the Perseus or Hyperion models. 16 to 14 shouldn’t cause that much of a variation in spin, in fact I often feel like spin is comparable with the 16 to 14, sometimes even favoring the 16.
Dumb question that may be just a personal preference thing. I had the magnus 14mm gen 3 and absolutely loved it but returned it after the ban. Will I be disappointed with the 3s Magnus 14mm?
Not a dumb question. If you’ll only be happy with same exact paddle, possibly disappointed. But if you want a similar feeling paddle, then this is the one for you.
I would say not as powerful as the Gen 3. But I moved some lead tape around in different positions than I had for the Gen 3 and am really liking this paddle now.
I’ve never cut one open but I do not believe they have a foam core. I don’t think any Joola paddle has ever had a foam core. Pickleball studio and some other RUclips pages get into the nitty gritty of paddles more
These paddles are UPA-A Approved. Can be used in recreational play but if a tournament or league that requires USAP certified paddles, you would not be able to use these paddles.
I am pretty comfortable with it. Like most professionals, my index finger on my left hand is on the paddle. And behind so close to the face gives me more control. I don’t usually use two handed backhand for power. More for consistency, topspin dinks/drops, and defense. Occasionally a drive if someone has hit a particularly difficult return to deal with but for most part, not hitting clean winners with 2H BH
This is a quote from Joola: “The MOD TA takes its design from the original prototype of the Gen3 and is USAP Approved. The 3S has an improved core from the Gen3 to enhance stability and is UPA-A Certified.”
I will do a full review of the two. I would say it feels like a little less spring off the face but more solid if that makes sense. But definitely feels like they’re part of the same family of paddles.
@@JoshJPickleball So you're saying the 3s is basically the mod, but better? I don't really care about the different approvals and stuff, I just want the better paddle
@@jmeib😂😂😂 then you will be buying a new paddle every single month. Seriously find a paddle you like and focus on developing your skills and strategies. It is a money grab at this point with these paddles hitting $300 with tax. I have purchased 5 Joolas but after the drama have started purchasing with smaller brands. Paddles getting dangerous and core crushing issues along with the drama its time to move on.
@@sd1660 bruh you've bought 5 Joola paddles 💀 I already have a paddle I love, the CRBN 1X 14mm. It's my main. And yeah, I'm developing my skills more than focusing on what paddle i have. Normally I don't like Joola anyways but I'm going to the clinic in Orlando in two weeks and a "free" paddle of your choice is included. That's why I'm just trying to figure out which is better and less likely to fall apart or be banned after a few weeks of use.
This company is ridiculous, I just purchased one and found out that it is still illegal! I reviewed the video and you correctly stated that is UPAA, which is another bogus name Joola is bringing to the market in a deceiving way. Unbelievable!
Sorry you feel that way. From my understanding, UPA-A was created by UPA which governs MLP and PPA tournaments. These paddles can be used at those events but not USAP tournaments. If needing a USAP approved Joola paddle, I would look to the Mod-15
Love that you’re throwing the ball for the doggo while doing the review.

I'm usually not a fan of the big pickleball companies but these paddles are excellent.
Have you tried them?
Would love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on the paddles if they’ve tried them
Great video and the paddles look awesome!

What’s the difference between Ben Hyperion 3s 16mm and the Simone Hyperion 3s 16mm?
Grip size? Color way?
The only difference is the color of the paddle and the signature on the paddle. Both are the same weight and grip size...
About the McGuffin 16mm - do you think it's head heavy? (elongated paddles usually are, for me, but I tried out a friend's Perseus and it felt ridiculously well-balanced.. was wondering about this one) 🤔

Best all around - Perseus 16 or Scorp 16??
Great questions - personal preference though shape matters.
Perseus has longer handle and typically plays better for someone with stronger tennis background or at a higher level.
Larger sweet spot and more control on Scorpeus.

Hi do you have a better understanding now on how powerful those paddles are compared to the banned gen 3?
I would say not as powerful as the Gen 3. But I moved some lead tape around in different positions than I had for the Gen 3 and am really liking this paddle now.
Do these new paddles still have the foam core?
I’ve never cut one open but I do not believe they have a foam core. I don’t think any Joola paddle has ever had a foam core. Pickleball studio and some other RUclips pages get into the nitty gritty of paddles more
Quick question - are these paddles banned or are they ok to use?
These paddles are UPA-A Approved. Can be used in recreational play but if a tournament or league that requires USAP certified paddles, you would not be able to use these paddles.
Any issue with the 2H BH using the Magnus?
I am pretty comfortable with it. Like most professionals, my index finger on my left hand is on the paddle. And behind so close to the face gives me more control.

What's the difference between the Perseus 3s and the Mod Ta-15 besides the certification differences?
This is a quote from Joola:
“The MOD TA takes its design from the original prototype of the Gen3 and is
USAP Approved. The 3S has an improved core from the Gen3 to enhance stability and is UPA-A
Certified.”
I cannot speak to anything other than the feel. I would say the Mod has slightly more power but a little less control. 3s feels more solid overall.
Thanks for the insight. Now I'm confused if I should cancel my order for the Mod Ta-15 and wait for the Gen 3s reviews 😔
@@xangelodeathx7742 It's so messy, not a good place for the fastest growing sport to be at. These Paddles are so expensive and yet there's no clarity.
Are these exactly the same as Gen3?
They do feel slightly different but both excellent paddles.
How do these compare to the MOD-TA for feel off the face?
I will do a full review of the two. I would say it feels like a little less spring off the face but more solid if that makes sense.
But definitely feels like they’re part of the same family of paddles.
0:09 "..not a full blown review" but is a 33 minute video 🙃
Haha the “review” part is only the first 6 minutes or so. Rest is just footage of me hitting the paddles and some sound bites.
So these have been out for a little while, and I cannot find any other reviews either written or video is nobody buying these things???
Pickleball studio just released a video this week. I think there were some delays with shipping!
Should I get the Gen 3s or the mod?
Easiest answer is if you’re playing in USAP events, you would need the Mod. If not, then I think the Gen 3s would be the preferred route.
