As much as I HATE subscription software, I'm going to go contrarian on this development. If Apple wants to foster professional applications (not just "apps") on the iPad Pro, they have to get over the low/freemium model of iPad software, and this subscription may do the trick. it gives developers incentive to work that market, while setting a benchmark ($50/yr) to try to cap the greedy Adobe's and Microsoft's out there (especially Adobe CC).
Yes. I know subscriptions suck but this is the only way in theory that Apple can devote enough time and attention to providing updates and new features. Again in theory 😂
I would personally be more happy having to re-purchase it at full price (on iPad). That equals about 3 yrs of subscription, and would certainly give Apple a decent amount of time to feel out demand. This would have also shown that Apple will be treating pricing the same for both Mac and iPad. Publishing a $300 iPad app would have set a nice precedent for devs too.
@@macrumors that doesn’t make sense. This is apple we are talking about with billions and billions in cash reserves. Keep the same model, if its subscription then fine but off a one time purchase price.

As a an Apple Certified audio professional who uses Logic Pro on macOS professionally on a daily basis for producing and mixing the content on my channel, my albums and for my clients, I firmly believe in ownership and being able to upgrade products when I see fit. This trend of subscriptions happened first with Adobe, then Avid then Waves and now Apple. I have always been and remain a fan of Apple but if the option for purchasing software was ever removed, then I would have no need the product. If others want to continue this path and allow companies to take more and more power out of the hands of their customers, then that is their prerogative but I will stand my ground firmly when I say I will not invest in any subscription-only platform. We already have to pay for utilities, we do not need any more subscriptions. I will not allow any trends in the industry to dictate my decisions. I still buy CDs & DVDs, I do not believe in music streaming services either. I own my home, my car, my computer, my music, my daw, my plugins and that is not ever going to change. Having said that, I am happy to see that Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro have made it to the iPad.
$50/year for a piece of professional content creation software is dirt cheap, especially if it gets regular, timely updates and feature enhancements. That's the only aspect of this I'm worried about. Apple has a spotty track record of maintaining focus on their various software suites over the years. In comparison to other DAWs I spend $100/year just on Cubase Pro because that's how much their annual upgrades cost.

@@markspencer1203 didn’t say it was. But a lot of money was paid for it
@@Jimmyfly215 $299 10 years ago and all upgrades for free...doesn't seem lot a lot to me....and no-one is forcing you to use FCP for iPad anyway.
@@markspencer1203 man you must have no friends with the anger you hold. Move along clown. I just paid for the app, I’m young, I didn’t pay it 10 years ago. I paid it now. The hell is so hard to comprehend?
@@markspencer1203 yeah but for more casual users that may only use it every once and a while, “hey pay for 6 years of use all at one time!” Seems like a definite barrier for entry. I know a lot of people with macs that just use iMovie because they don’t wanna pay $300
I do serious video editing so infrequently that it cannot justify a monthly stipend for Apple.
The subscription is for all y’all who just torrented it on the Mac. They know this and are Norma taking action
especially if they’re about to add 3rd party app support
Good thing I pirated the Mac version. Now I only payed for it once :)
JUST SAY NO TO SUBSCRIPTIONS! FORCE THEM TO SELL OUT RIGHT!
POG
this confirms iapds will never get macos
OH MY GOD AT LAST
Ah, it’s a subscription. They can ram it. I’m gutted.
Finally! Who’s laughing now? ✌🏻👽
>Subscription plan
And like that, you've lost me.
Software optimazed for hardware are beautiful
That's why you need programming your OWN OS not using from another licensing, lol
Good job Apple!
Subscription? No thnx I’ll stay with cubasis. It’s much more developed and supported and you can buy a full license. Thnx but no thnx .
That sounds like a living hell to use.
How
@@djstuc I did actually and read the announcement... but thanks :)
@@mathew_smith Then please explain what you mean by “living hell.” Why do you think so? You can’t say something like that and not explain it when every pro user loves these apps on the Mac.
😮😮
Connect it to your Mac lol
They lost everyone to Davinci already LOL
And a subscription? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
if u do subs at least offer perpetual license as well
