    See, this is how all coaches should be. He is really proud of them and very supportive. At my school we have many coaches like that and they push us really hard, but we have won 10 state meets in a row so it is all worth it.

    Great to see that yung women are encouraged, and get the proper coaching for running. I didn't get that in the 60's. Running was considered punishment. Any girls that excelled would get heckled by the boys. Thank goodness, while I was stationed in Italy, attitudes were much different towards women who wanted to run. Really happy to see women who have a chance to show how well they can do at something that when I was growing up was considered harmful, and unladylike.

    What was the recovery between reps? I would normally do 5 x 1 mile with a 3 min recovery and run between 5.50 and 6.10 and I’m not even that good a runner....... when they ran 6.26 for the first mile, and then 6.10ish for the second mile i was expecting the third mile to be in the 5’s but to maintain 6.08/09 seems a bit of a kop out of a session

      @Smileypants Cuppycake For me it was the Nike Desert Twilight Meet. It was ran at night and I beat my PR by 3 minutes. I also went head to head with my teammate when both of us were close to the finish. I won, he thinks he won, but I know I won.

      Demetrius Johnson yeah, what's crazy is that often average girls are about 2 minutes behind the average guy, if you translate her time, as a guy, relatively speaking, she'd be running around 3:40s, and that's national level. What a beast.

    • @dieterichja

      Workouts are mostly not anywhere near race pace. There are different body systems that different paces work on. The coach said they were just starting into the part of the season where they were picking up intensity.

    Aren't 6:10 milers a total joke for someone who can run a 9:10 3K?! I'm nowhere near that kind of race time, but 6:10 is my 10K race pace, so fairly easy if you break it into milers. Am I missing something here??

    • @michaelaadkins813

      It's a workout, not a race. They would've killed themselves if they would've ran that fast 5 times

    • @sloth7d526
      @sloth7d526 6 лет назад

      Julien Neel you are missing something. It's the course they ran the mile repeats on. It might've been very very hilly you can't judge if you don't know what the course for their mile repeats were. 6:10 is really good for a hilly course.

    • @brandondaniels9471
      @brandondaniels9471 6 лет назад +4

      No, not really. At some point, most coaches were runners. But most coaches teach, coach, and have a family to take care of. So much time and energy gets dedicated to those priorities that busy coaches have very little time to stay in shape. I'm a private running coach and the only way I can still stay in shape is because I'm single and I don't have a family. But, even then it's still difficult at times because I run another business which takes up a lot of my time and focus. When you're a kid, you have all of the time in the world to run and stay in great shape. But, when you're an adult, your lifestyle evolves a whole lot.

    • @francishooton3933

      it is a 5 mile run. If you don't drink so much, it teaches your body to work harder and perform when it is dehydrated. I met the miler Steve Ovett once. He set 6 world records and won olympic gold and bronze. he ripped 30 athletes and coaches to pieces over their so-called hard work. doing 5 by 1 mile followed by say 10 by 300m followed by 5 by a mile, would be a better workout. and then add weights in when you get fit. The last time the USA had a miler who set a world record, was Jim Ryan in the 1960s..

    • @SplashianioXAnimatez

    • @francishooton3933
      @francishooton3933 6 лет назад

      i'd say it is called poor coaching. you are better not drinking. drink at the beginning, and then no more until then end. Steve Ovett would agree. He set 6 world records and won Olympic gold and bronze, at 1500m and 1 mile and 800m.
