Your Lightroom tutorials are so much better than any of the other ones available. Organized, logical, concise. Adobe should hire you.

I've watched dozens of videos on the sharpening panel over the years. This is the absolute best ever. Thanks.

Best explanation of capture sharpening I've heard. Haven't seen them all, but that's the first time I've heard anyone explain when Radius and Detail is best used. Wish I could see your exhibition in London (?).

As always, you increase my understanding of a particular tool in LR that I have been using for ages by a surprising amount. Many thanks!

Excellent tutorial. You mentioned the difference between masking and detail and also mentioned how there’s would be used in landscapes and portraits. For wildlife such as the owl you were working on would you prefer masking over detail or a combination of both?

This is an area where I've always fudged things, playing around with the sliders until I get something that looks okay. It's nice to finally know what I'm doing. Thanks.

Great video, as always! I only wished that Lightroom/ACR had A.I. based sharpening, especially for motion blur.

Great information. I always assumed that since the sharpening amount was always set to 25% as default, that all capture sharpening was the same independent of camera. Good to know that it is actually optimized per camera.
Edit: something else I never realized that the COMPARE option would show the image without the default sharpening settings. This is handy as well. That said, the term “before and after” is a bit confusing now. What does “before” include and exclude. Since Camera profiles are automatic applied (eg usually Adobe Color by default), does the before view show no Camera Color Profile at all, or does it show whatever is set as the default camera profile?

Oh drat. I've muddied the waters. By default, the "Before" state displays the "import" image state and sharpening would be applied. However, you can drag and drop any state from the history panel to the "before' state. So, I removed the sharpening, then dragged (drug?) the unsharpened state in History to the Before state so that I could compare them on-screen. Sorry for the confusion!

@@jkost …. aaannnddd with that response you taught me something else I did’nt know….You can drag any previous history state in the left ‘before’ view. Very handy and useful info! Thank you!
