Sorry fella this is 2023 Christmas lights. London is truly a huge magical city right now and you have to appreciate the size of the city and various shopping districts for example Kings Rd, Oxford St, Regent St, Carnaby St, 7 Dials, Leicester Sq and Trafalgar Square. Then you have Mayfair, Chelsea of course Bond St and not forgetting the huge department stores that entice you in with their gorgeous window displays. Yes I’m a Londoner and extremely proud of my city.

@@nadeansimmons226 I’m sorry guys you are all right it is 2022 I didn’t actually look at Fortnum and Masons advent calendar properly and what’s more Covent Garden’s Christmas lights are different this year. What’s even more embarrassing is I was in the West End yesterday Christmas shopping and saw most of these. I live south of the river and commute into the West End every day so to me this is just an ordinary day during Nov, Dec into Jan. So my apologies guys.

2023. I’ve was born and have lived in London all my 60 years. Spent time in the centre this year on both Friday 15th and Saturday 16th. In all my years, I’ve never seen it so busy.
Winter Wonderland was sold out (and it’s huge). Train services into the centre had issues due to over crowding.
If you can cope with crowds, it is magical.

I was in London a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the 2023 Christmas lights. Fortnum and Mason this year looked magical and beyond amazing with a very red theme to its traditional advent calendar theme. All in all the beautiful buildings, the amazing Christmas lights everywhere and the hustle and bustle of so many people out enjoying themselves was just spectacular. Near the start of his video Tim referred to London as the greatest city in the world and I completely agree with him. It never fails to knock my socks off ❤

We don't get to London as often as I'd like - it is wonderful, so vibrant, and every area has something special about it, especially at this time of year. I love Soho and Covent Garden with all the street performers as well as the shops - my son (now in his 20s) still laughs about watching a street performer in Covent Garden when suddenly about 50 naked cyclists rode past ringing their bells - to huge applause! 😊

Try your Brussels sprouts with pancetta and toasted pine nuts with fresh lemon juice. Grate the sprouts and briefly cook them in the pancetta fat in the frying pan with just a dash of chicken stock. Add the crispy pancetta pieces and pine nuts, transfer to a serving dish and squeeze a little lemon juice over them. You WILL like sprouts afterwards😊

Each street has a business association to which all of the businesses belong. It is these associations who plan and implement the Christmas decorations, funded by the members. These associations, like the Oxford Street Association, compete intensely with each other which ensures both the variety and quality of the displays.

Covent Garden Market is a shopping centre which opened 12:45 in 1980 and is now a tourist location containing cafes, pubs, small shops, and a craft market called the Apple Market, along with another market held in the Jubilee Hall. Previously it was a fruit and vegetable market dating back 100’s of years.

I actually LOVE Brussel Sprouts and can NEVER understand this obsession to say 'I hate Brussel Sprouts'..? TBH: If (?) Part of the reason why the street decorations are different is they are put up by the traders association for each area or street. So the Bond Street, Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, Leicester Square are all put up by a different association of traders, the themes and budgets reflect the traders for the area so Bond Street - Jewellers, Oxford Street - Clothing, Carnaby Street - Funky boutiques, Leicester Square - Bars, Theatres, Casinos. They are each competing with each other for footfall. Also this is central London, the most expensive real estate in the UK. There are a lot of far more modest trading centres around London.
Covent Garden used to be the market for Fruit, Vegetables and Flowers, the market has moved South of the River to New Covent Garden Market leaving the framework of the market to be moved into by shops and an invasion if street performers including the very annoying living statue. Around the edge of Covent Garden you will also find the Opera House and the London Transport museum. It is in the West End so there are a lot of Hotels and Theatres in the surrounding streets.

I've only been to London once when I was 10 and not at xmas. I can understand the sensory overload as I work as a support worker with teenagers with ASD & ADHD. My class would find this overwhelming due to the lights and even more with the noise level. They have to wear ear defenders. I used to work as a nanny 25 years ago and the kids parents had Santa paper, it was always Winnie the pooh. They went to visit family in Canada one xmas and I had to be Santa and put out all the presents in their bedrooms for when they returned home. Their parents took a couple presents to Canada.

Le cirque du soleil - means circus of the sun, or sun circus.
I think its origin is quebeccois but perhaps some francophones will answer the question more fully parce que moi, je ne suis pas français.
You could come over to London at Christmas but give yourself plenty of time, because like in the US at that time of year, if you get one or two miserable days, you need to be patient for the weather to change.
However, I think it's less cold than in New England

Of the stores for their Christmas displays:
    1. Fortnum & Mason, particularly recommend their jams & preserves put into a Tiffany style bag (prices start at £5.50).
    2. Liberty. Fabric department is an unbeatable & the perfume/aftershave department is an unsurpassed sensory overload. An exquisite Elizabethan building.
    3. Selfridges. Gloss & glam.
Avoid Carnaby Street, Tottenham Court Road or King’s Road tacky tourist spots
I don’t rate the Christmas lights these days. They are usually sponsored by a firm & pared down due to environmental concerns. No celebrities turn on the Christmas lights, which is a pity.
Drinks at the Lanesborough Hotel (beautiful building with a roaring log fire). Savoy Hotel (drinks with free Carol choir).
    The London Eye. Always.
If you want to see a show, it’s Pantomime.
Examples of British Christmas songs for your playlist:
Driving home for Christmas - Chris Rea
    Last Christmas - Wham
    Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade
I wish it could be Christmas every day - Wizard
I believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake

Every high street (main street) and shopping area in the UK has its own Christmas Tree and street lights paid for by the surrounding businesses. Therefore prime shopping destinations such as those Tim is touring in the tourist hot spots in central London are lavish because there are richer businesses than can afford these displays.

@@Lin.J333 There is nothing stopping you spending money on your Christmas decorations like the businesses in central London do. They choose what to spend their money on, you choose to spend your money on what you want. It is not the case of other boroughs going without, it is the businesses and people in those Boroughs choosing not to spend the money. Do you argue that because your neighbour has decorated their house and you haven't your family has had to go without?

@@paulmidsussex3409 oh my god ..!! .spend my money on putting decorations up in our shopping mall .??? The whole Borough will say the same ..our council does not do anything anymore ...what on Earth has my neighbour to do with having their own decorations !! and I do not begrudge any of my neighbours being able to have them ...and who said my family has to go without ??? ..our council does not put up decorations anymore in our local shopping centre ....as many have said who live here ....so you would like me to find money and buy all the decor and go to the mall and somehow get up there and decorate the mall and the main road....! In between largely wealthy cities and exotic coastal regions (and, yes, a lot of the countryside is nice to look at in a rather flat way) you find English towns that look like demilitarised zones. So I take the 'smoke' with a pinch of salt. And both my parents were Londoners. They got away in the 1960s though.

Gotta tell you .......as a teen, l went ski - ing in Tyrol, Aústria.............germans & austrians were perfectly friendly................the following day a waitress said hi, what happened............l found l had drank with Nazis. No point to this.........:cept my amazement...........stunned !........Nice Chrissie..............
