I know how he feels. That house to him represents his whole life full of memories. Now that his mom is gone the home is empty. It's a scary and really surreal feeling. I inherited my grand parents house and both passed away like 5 years ago and when I first got it the memories just flooded in. Living all alone in a big home with no one around but those memories is a pretty big mindfuck.
Personally on bad days when I walk into the kitchen I imagine myself as kid me with the same dinner table with me being so small I see it at kid height. Then snapback to reality and im more than double the size looking down at the table. It's a surreal feeling.
That does not sound good for your mental.

Like he said every hole has a story. Everything his mom had is still there as well and has a story for each thing. He talked about a few things here about his mom. You see little hints of it in his normal content whenever his mom gets mentioned or something she had gets mentioned. He loved her and got her anything she wanted because he could. His mom bought him a crappy HP computer and that's where it all began. I think the gamer life and his other life circumstances like his mom dying have led him to live like this. This is a hunch but I have a feeling he has no IRL friends nearby anymore. He definitely has friends online but not so much anywhere else. All his MTG playing friends are off doing their own thing with their own family. He doesn't want to forget the stories and old memories because he's lost his normal social life. He also doesn't have a normal life anymore, he's a very well-known person. I've read well-known people often end up the loneliest because your friends turn out to be fake often and just want to get a piece of the clout. Finding real friends is hard.
I can empathize with him some. My friends did alright getting out of high school. Most have a family now or are planning one and have a house but I don't. I'm renting a room from my sister as she has also gotten a house. Everything I own can fit in my 700$ truck that barely runs with room to spare. I went almost straight downhill for awhile after high school. I'm climbing out a deep hole of 10 years of health problems and have no IRL friends anymore. My 3 good friends from high school still talk to me around once every couple months but that's it. I don't have friends online anymore and I have 1 older friend but we don't hang out or anything. She's got 13 years on me. I live in a similar chaos, I know where almost everything is but there are too many things. My hoarding nature comes from the lack of friends, a bit of min/maxing, and a lack of need to change. My memory is horrible unless I see the thing related. Then it all comes rushing back but if you asked me the same question without showing me the related item I couldn't tell you. I don't want to lose those memories and I know I will lose them without a reminder. I've found things and thought of things I hadn't thought of since I was in 3rd grade. It's amazing how the mind works with memory. It's all up there, you just need the correct circumstance to trigger the memory.

It’s interesting because in the military we do Health and Welfare checks on Soldiers. Whenever we find Soldiers with rooms like this, we almost immediately refer to behavioral health. 90% of the time there are underlying causes other than laziness.

You make a great point. I have a history of making places I live in just as bad, if not sometimes worse than this, and it stems back to my rough childhood where my mom was a MASSIVE helicopter parent. My mom had an explosive anger problem, and one of the things she would get furious with me about was the tidiness of my room. I grew up with severe anxiety as a child and adult, and I now actively avoid cleaning and tidying until it's reaching a point of disaster.

thats not always the case. my house is just as messy maybe slightly more. i make 80k a year and am extremely happy. not lazy at all no mental issues. i went to a few phycologist with ex girlfriends and they all tought i was extremely reasonable and sound of mind. im just not materialistic and dont give a crap about stuff getting piled up i drive a rusted out 2004 dodge caravan and i could go buy a new car right now but it works fine so why bother? i will also say i never get sick. people are more suseptable to sickness if they live in a sterile enviroment. its scientifically proven fact. low level exposure over time will factually make your immune system tougher and more resilient. yes for many it could be depression, isolation etc... but for some like myself or asmon apparently its just not a big deal. he's a multimillionaire if it was a problem he could just buy another house live there and just keep the old house as is for sentimental reasons. people just overreact to this because its not what sociaty and media say is normal.

I also think he hasn't properly grieved his mother yet. So many memories would be near impossible to clean up and get rid of if I lost my mom in the house we grew up in. That being said Asmongold is someone I 100% look up to. He's unapologetically himself no matter who he's around and thats admirable.

I love Asmon for being himself. The fact we can all collectively see that he is just struggling with everything that has happened in his life.....He's going to be ok, he has a HUGE community of supporters.

I think there's a part of him that keeps the house that way just because that's how it always was when his Mom was around. He's hanging on to the old days, just like many of us do. But I do think if everything was cleaned up nice and organized a little bit he would still have that nostalgia while also feeling better every day about not having a looming mess in the background of his life.
That's just cope, he's just lazy and stuck in his ways. He grew up like this and his mom smoked inside etc so it's normal for him.

The thing is thigns dont just mold for no reason. There is no circulation in the house because of all the garbage that is in there. So it dosnt matter if he get rid of some things. It is probably dangerous living there. I also care for Asmons health, he needs to get out of there.

On a deeper note. They know Asmon dosn't care and they do care. They don't force it on him to clean the place because they know how much it means to him to have the home look like how it was when his mom was alive. They are doing a bit for sure but im sure they have enough people skills to realize that this is deeper than "guy is just dirty". The cluttered mess of it represents home and thus his mother. I know the feeling.

I like Asmon and have been subbed to him for years. He has said or eluded to his mother not being the best housekeeper. The house looks like it's a low key hoarder situation. Living like this is definitely a state of mind. I thought when Pink Sparkles moved in with him that she would get the house cleaned up but a lot of times for hoarders, their clutter has sentimental attachment. Let's not forget that he is an only child of divorced parents and he lost his mother whom he lived with and talks about frequently. I think he's a good sport about his home and balding. I mean, this video is definitely getting views which is helping his friends/business partners. He's a good guy and I hope he's happy. I've said this a couple times on a few different reactions to this, but I love this video and the reactions because I legit grew up in a house almost identical to his.
Also If I remember correctly he's said a few times that he drinks water(bottles) pretty regularly, it's just not his main consumption of fluid.. and to my knowledge(just a guess) he probably keeps the house that way to stay connected to his mom that passed. I believe Tectone said on stream in his reaction to the video that there is a laptop/ashtray set-up somewhere that his mom use to game on still intact.
@asicveg I didn't mention anything about his hygiene, I was talking about most of his house being a cluster. As someone who is also a gamer degen who has grown up in a similar situation, after I got out of my old house, I can't stand a mess like that anywhere in my house. However, I'll let it slide in my bedroom because I don't really bring a whole lot of people to my room. My point was that if he had moved out or if he didn't have an emotional connection to the cluster everywhere, he probably wouldn't be so on guard to cleaning up. I don't think it's fair to say he lacks discipline. However, I'd agree he's probably depressed to a certain extent.

Dirty dishes and filled trashcans are a separate issue that is probably something to do with him being busy/depressed. I'm not making excuses for him nor is it really anyone's business, however it was a remark in response to Xaryu pondering/questioning outloud to his chat.

@@ImAnOcean Majority of comments are directed towards the person who made the video, I shouldn't have to spell out that I was addressing a remark made by the Xaryu considering this is a video about his reaction to the other video, and if you watched the video you'd know that Tectone offered "You ever want me to ah clean up a room or something, you want me to like pick up a little bit sometime or nah". So it should be common sense that when I bring up Tectone in my response to why I think Asmon keeps the house a certain way it's within the context of the cluster of stuff throughout the house. Also I addressed that I wasn't talking about his hygiene to the first person who misunderstood, which by definition means "conditions or practices conducive to maintaining health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness." I.E. dirty dishes with leftover moldy food not just his shower routine or dirty laundry. So either you didn't read my comments all the way, or you're "reading comprehension" isn't all that great. Next time you want to be a smartass maybe try to actual be smart.

The reason Asmon doesn't care about the filth, or things like mold, is simply because he doesn't understand how it can be harmful.
He's very smart about a lot of things, hygiene and a lot of real life situations are completely lost on him due to his own personal idea of how things should be.

Living like this is not being a "non-materialistic" person like he totes. Yeah he's frugal and not a materialistic person, but that doesn't mean you have to live in mountains of trash. Well organised house and room is a well organised mind. I've always felt more in control of my life when my living quarters were clean and tidy.
the need for a tidy environment around you is more of a product of how you were raised than this flawed notion that clean surroundings = mental clarity. You surround yourself with that you're familiar and comfortable with. Maybe that notion is true for people that are used to tidy and neat surroundings but I wouldn't project that view as if it is an all-encompassing truth like you are implying...

This is actually really sad. Most people who live like this have a mental illness.
While soda contains caffeine, it also contains a large amount of water. This fluid negates the mild diuretic effects of caffeine. For soda to be dehydrating, you'd have to consume it in huge amounts. While it might not always cause dehydration, drinking soda isn't the best way to manage hydration. by google.
100% would be living like that if it wasnt for my wife. Now I have my garage for a my little rat hole and the chaos is comforting.
I know most people don't understand that last bit but I 100% do. I'm a lot more comfortable with some chaos going on than I am in a perfectly neat and tidy environment.
Reading the comments is hard because I'm seeing so many people try to justify why someone might live this way when it's clear that Asmon needs some form of help. Either a cleaner or a doctor to help him. This is not a good way to live and having once lived this way when I was massively depressed, just triggers alarms that he is in the same space and needs help.

I used to drink nothing but soda, for roughly 15 years of my life I believe. I quit drinking soda overnight. But I still do not drink water very much. I sustain on lemonade and skim milk. I don't get muscle cramps or any other obvious signs of dehydration.
I think Asmon has a problem and needs to get help. People dancing around it is sad. The guy has clear signs of depression and his (friends from the outside looking in) aren't doing anything to nudge him in a positive direction.

About the black mold... its dangerous mostly due to it being in the walls, where you cant actually see it, mostly because poor house maintanance, old houses would suffer more cuz degradation of insulation, bad ventilation of inner parts of walls or roof, might be caused by animals as well, rats eating off parts of walls, making nests inside thus bringing more pathogens in.

I wouldn't say the majority of his viewers idolize him. Some more than likely do, but not most. I believe they respect his authenticity and find him insightful and entertaining. His memory is impressive and he has a lot of very insightful and thought provoking takes on a lot of issues.

You 'd be amazed how easy it is to let something physical go. This house could be decent even if it was clean, but it'd need an overhaul. Everything outside of Asmon's gaming room has outdated wall features, carpet, furniture and accessories. IF I was him, I'd hire a cleaning crew to come in for a week and do a deep cleaning. Separate the things not needed so they can take them out. Keep the gaming room the same since it's part of his brand. But if he really wants to honor the house as he says, clean up all of the other rooms.

I love Asmon, but watching this was extremely sad for me. There's obviously mental issues at play here and while he seems fine on his streams he's obviously not ok. It's almost like he never grew up and his mom probably kept the place clean and now that she's no longer there it's just deteriorating.

Asmon's house reminds me of a place a group of friends rented which had holes in the roof, an entire room dedicated to trash, no heat, burning street side found couches and pizza boxes to stay warm. To top it off, the house had no foundation or maybe it once did so it was slowly sinking into the earth by about a centimeter / year. It was a special place of video games, grime and drama. Everything was filthy all the time. There was one clean room in the whole place which was inhabited by a compulsive neat freak but he dare not touch the rest of the house for it was a lost cause. He knew not to push that rock up the hill.

@@erikrulez17 If you've listened to his reasons on why he would take months off of streaming then it's pretty apparent that he is suffering from depression. His mom passed away, his dads health from what I understand is declining, he lives alone and he has massive amounts anxiety. And, like Xaryu was saying, your mental state is reflected in how you keep your home.

I think what it comes down to is there are large differences between being unorganized vs unclean... and unclean vs unhealthy. I lean libertarian which is basically... leave me alone and let me live my life... but at the same time, if someone is doing something unhealthy... at some point you have to step in and at least, bare minimum, show some concern for/to that person.

I have absolutely no problem with Asmon wanting to continue to live at the house he is most comfortable in. The issue starts ehen you see clear signs of hoarding, and the general messiness of the house. Theres clearly something more to this situation then him wanting to live a sinple life. Im happy hes happy but i think he should talk to someone and either allow someone to help him with the house or have him help himself.
That's how his mom left the house most of it is hers, he can't bring himself to throw it out as he has not delt with those emotions yet

If you do right or wrong can only be measured by the results you get. I would be afraid that his health will reduce over time, but I grew up like you Xaryu and I don't want to judge too hard, too. I think in this world of deception and lies Asmongold is the glorious truth per se. And being a psychologist I can tell you, that giving a sh&t and being as honest as you can makes you a kind of real hero with superpowers - perhaps being able to control mold and your inner demons without much effort.
It looks like an old messy house. People are not used to these, because people grew out of them. Yes, people weren't this messy, but the house it's old in itself and it gives a weird vibe to some people. I remember the same, when I was young and went to my grandma's house. The smell is different and not really pleasant. Probably even his grandparents lived there as well, that's how old I think it is.
