Best truck ever. I have a 2010 LTZ, previously had a 2004 Z71. Tows really well, and you can put 2500lbs in the bed no problem. Super comfortable ride, easy to work on yourself, and the locking storage compartments are such a bonus.
Not until 2013 I think. I hope they change their mind. I have had my avalanche 9 years and it still feels like new. It has been the best vehicle I have purchased.
My grandparents have a 2002 Avalanche (first year it came out) and they just love it. The only reason they are considering getting rid of it is because of the fuel economy. the z66 on-road package handles very well even in the snow with traction control. Ive driven the truck and i do really like it, however i drive an f150 so im used to a normal truck, which i really like as well.
A lot of people dog the Avy but I just purchased a 2012 with 40k miles for 25k. The reasons I purchased the the Avy. 1) Family car that has 4 wheel drive. I have a 7 series BMW but sucks in snow and I just reach 110k so I will sell by the summer. 2) I test drove a Silverado and the Avy has a way better ride 3) I only have 1 child and only plan to have 2. So if we have more, then I will switch to Tahoe or Suburban. 4) I am a homeowner and this is great for hauling a new stove, fridge, dishwasher, AC unit, mulch, and junk. I can tow my motorcycle and Can am Spyder. I do not own a boat and do not plan on owning a boat so I don't need to tow anything big. I may a get Jet Ski for the summer but the Avy can easily tow that. So the Avy is perfect for my situation. If you are buying this for a work truck or travel trailor, then I would say get a Silverado 1500 or 2500, Ford F-150 or F-250, Tacoma, etc. But I personally think the 07-13 Avy look better than the Silverado, Ford F-150, or Dodge Trucks and get compliments daily from random people. Also, gas is currently $1.45 where I live and I filled up on 87 gas for $37. In my 7 series I spend $50-$60 on a fill up because I have to use 93. I fill up every 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. So if you want a Family Truck/SUV that comfy, luxurious but can also save you money from renting a vehicle when traveling to Lowes, Home Depot, etc then go for Avy (mid-gate). If you need to truck to perform as a work truck. Then go for a truck with a truck with a tailgate. if you need a vehicle to transport more than 5 people the go for a Tahoe, Suburban or a mini-van.
VA but got truck from Philly. Ford Dealer was trying to get rid of it and I caught it the 1st day it was posted online. Put $500 to hold it for me and went up on the weekend to get it.
Personally, I wouldn't pay 37k for a 2012. You can find 2013 Black Diamond editions cheaper than that. If you are willing to travel to get one then... I would use cars.com, autotrader, etc and find a better deal. Don't forget to negotiate. Also, if you have no deadline to purchase, then be patient for a a good deal. It took me about 2 months to find that deal. It was the color I wanted with the painted sails, heated/cooled leather, etc. Couldn't be happier with being patient. Hope this helps.
I noticed something cool. Up until 1998, the Silverado/1500 was built on almost the same body as the Tahoe/Suburban except for one had a flat bed of course. Well in 1999, the SIlverado got its own slightly changed body with different headlights and taillights. Well when the avalanche came along, they went back to their old habit and built off of a Suburban/tahoe. Kinda cool to think about!
I love my 2002 avalanche. I got it at a salvage auction of repaired it. Its my baby and i suprise everyone when the seats fold down and back comes down. I can haul almost anything my friends can throw at it!
I ordered a huge bird cage that had to be assembled. It was delivered to the school in a semi trailer. If it had not been for the lowering midgate, I would not have been able to get it in the truck. The driver was surprised how much room it had.
The Avalanche has an active fuel management system and drops to 4 cylinders when the full 8 are not required. It certainly saves fuel on flat and down hill terrain, but don't expect it to make a dramatic difference if you live in an area that changes altitude and terrain frequently. That being said, nobody buys a large vehicle for fuel economy. I bought my 2007 Avalanche brand new and still own it today. I have thought about trading it in, but I have never found anything that I consider better.
Bear Getoffmylawn Brown I have the same model and thought about trading it in for a sierra but tbh don’t see the big upgrade which in reality it’s the same 5.3 from 10 years ago
An F-150 with EcoBoost and the Chevy Avalanche get 15-16 mpg - practically the same. I am a die-hard Ford man but I've been riding in a relative's Avalanche for a few years...and it isn't that bad.
My 2004 going strong as ever with 165k. Does everything I need. You sacrifice gas mileage and have a truck that can haul 8foot items while keeping them completely dry, seat 5 large passengers comfortably, load up a quad or motorcycle ect.. everything that a truck or SUV can do - the Avalanche does.
I never realized how much stuff you can do with the back of an Avalanche. I would never get one myself, but i had no clue that the back seats could come down and hold more bed lenght.
Owned mine 6 months best damn truck ever damn near to the point I don't wanna daily it mines is a 08 lt trim that some one ordered with every option including the best one it's got the 6.0
I just picked up an 08 ltz I don't know why gm stopped producing these it's great! It's a great solid truck and easy to work on, anyone know where I can get the nav map updates
My kind of truck, have had it for 2 years and nothing but accolades for it. Too bad it is discontinued for 2014, Guess will have to buy the next one used... :)
saw that episode of mythbusters I liked the older ones the new ones are getting kind of boring. we had a 2006 avalanche we traded it off on a cough cough dodge pickup. the dodge was junk and were back in the market for an avalanche. loved it.
@frozencanuckreviews This is a very old video for the 2009 model Avalanche which was just a carryover.. I remember watching this early last year. They removed the video, and just re-uploaded it and changed the title. You're right, the Avalanche is discontinued.
@frozencanuckreviews That's a rumor that it would be discontinued after the '13 model year, but consumer responses should help keep the Avalanche going. I see a lot of Avalanches still on the road.
Actually, on the TV show Mythbusters they tested fuel consumption on pickups with and without open beds and with/without tailgate up/down, and there was no difference. The open bed gets filled with a pocket of dense air that keeps track from happening. Nice trucks though! I'm thinking of switching from my Envoy (which I love) to an Avalanche LTZ.
Prob close to a bill i have a 06 gmc sierra and i put 40 bucks in and its barley over half a tank assuming it has the same 32 gal gas tank. its a thirsty truck but they all are.
The 2013 Avalanche is the final year of the Avalanche. See wikipedia under Chevrolet Avalanche for reference to that fact. It's sad, it was a versatile truck. I owned one for 5 years, still do, and other than GMs sloppy and abysmal workmanship causing dependability issues (in all its vehicles), the Av was a good concept.
This is what's wrong with GM. The Avalanche should have NEVER been killed. They should have brought production back to the US from Mexico and increased the quality of the truck even more over time. Continued to refine the platform. They made something that was unique they the market loved then let the bean counters kill it. Killing off Saturn, Pontiac & Hummer during the recession should have opened the door for more development and refinement of vehicles like this!
very nice and innovative but itn should be for the ridiculous pricetag of this and all the other brands that have comperable vehicles.what happened to the straight up utility vehicle?to many rich ranchers who want a 4x4 cadilac with a pick up bed
A dually Silverado or Sierra is easily heavier than the Avalanche, cause dually are mainly crew cab plus long bed, double axle, and massive Diesel engines
I guess that works for the folks that go kayaking by themselves, but real trucks are available with longer beds for jobs just like that, and you can take some friends too. Or if you want a 2 seat, long bed truck BUY ONE! Cheaper and get better mileage. Bins on either side... AKA Ram box? No advantage to the Avalanche. Tonneau covers are cheap and easy to instal if you want one. Weighs more than a Silvy, hauls and tows much less but has the same power? Why would you even recommend this?
The Ford F-150 should have been the best pick-up truck for 2012! It is also 2012 Motor Trend Truck of the Year, thanks to a twin-turbo V6 that can tow up to 11,000 lbs for the trailer and impressive design, not to mention fuel efficiency! But The Avalanche is not a bad truck, however it does look very outdated.
I have loved the Avalanche since I first saw it in 2002. I finally bought a new 2012. I wanted the 2013 because it was the last year they made them. Two things I don't like about my Avalanche is the electronic governor (It will only do 100 MPH) and the bed is not as water resistant as they say.
Here's what you do. Reach 99 mph, depress the accelerator 3 times, that puts you in emergency mode up to 128 mph. To improve zip, find a safe road, stop and shut down engine for 10 sec, restart, accelerate hard to 60 mph, do this 3 times, you now have beast. Also, a programmer, Hypertech or Bulldog, will do a lot for your Chevy, I love my Hypertech, it resets DTC's for free.
In theory, there was no point for GM to market on the avalanche since crew cabs are now standard in the new Silverado and Sierra trucks. But Gm will market a truck equivalent to the avalanche in the future. It wont be labeled as a model itself. I'll just be an add on package for the crew cab Silverado.
So i counted at least 7 moves just to store garbage under 2 feet tall, ok I guess a Tahoe or a regular pick up truck are no match to this avalanche of sh!t
RIP Avalanche 2002-2013, gotta buy me one, these gonna be classic when Im older
Best truck ever. I have a 2010 LTZ, previously had a 2004 Z71. Tows really well, and you can put 2500lbs in the bed no problem. Super comfortable ride, easy to work on yourself, and the locking storage compartments are such a bonus.
Awesome Ride!!! Most haters never drove in one.
I have 2005 Avalanche it runs had it 10 years still running strong.
I sure do miss the avalanche it's one classical pick up. Maybe one day I'll get one
Not until 2013 I think. I hope they change their mind. I have had my avalanche 9 years and it still feels like new. It has been the best vehicle I have purchased.
Thats the EXACT same color and the EXACT same model as my dad! The Chevy avalanche is my favorite American muscle car! Awesome video!
It's sad they discontinued this model.... :'(
I just saw one in Japan tonit, all black ngl.. it's a beast!
got a 2005 avy about a year ago, couldn't ask for a better vehicle. she's my baby
I want one so badly.
Just picked up a 2012 Avy myself, it has a lot of features that I still haven’t found
My grandparents have a 2002 Avalanche (first year it came out) and they just love it. Ive driven the truck and i do really like it, however i drive an f150 so im used to a normal truck, which i really like as well.
never actually seen a review for the Avalanche, pretty handy truck. Has a lot of flexibility.
I love this truck.
So do i
A lot of people dog the Avy but I just purchased a 2012 with 40k miles for 25k. The reasons I purchased the the Avy. 1) Family car that has 4 wheel drive. How has the truck been holding up? Any regrets? Has it been rock solid? Thanks
I noticed something cool. Up until 1998, the Silverado/1500 was built on almost the same body as the Tahoe/Suburban except for one had a flat bed of course. Well when the avalanche came along, they went back to their old habit and built off of a Suburban/tahoe. Kinda cool to think about!
I have a 07 Avalanche, its great! if you don't need 3rd row seats its much more useful and signficantly less costly than a Suburban or a Tahoe.
I own a 2010 LTZ and I just love it. A few ticks here and there ( door handles) but a great ride . GM needs to bring this one back.
The Avalanche has an active fuel management system and drops to 4 cylinders when the full 8 are not required. But wait there's more
I bought a 2009 brand new and still have it. All around awesome vehicle. Will be hard to replace it, I don't want a plain, common F150 or Silverado.
James Myers Agreed! I have a 2005 Avalanche and don’t want to part with it for some boring ride.
roxbery25 how’s the ride I heard they are smooth
@@RB25luv its pretty smooth. You can barely feel it accelerate when you press on the gas
That covered bed with no exposed tailgate has got to help a little with fuel economy too. Good review!
Chevy avalanche the best truck , this is a good truck good vehicle to drive forever 2005 Z 71 368,000 miles go avalanche
We have a silver avalanche with the silver pockets on the side of the bed. And I think this color has grown on me
I never realized how much stuff you can do with the back of an Avalanche. I would never get one myself, but i had no clue that the back seats could come down and hold more bed lenght.
I am driving a first gen avalanche and its awesome I'm saving up to get a newer and better one maybe a 2011 to 2013
Armageddon 32 do they have issues instrumental issues what you know of 2012 issues on avalanche and mpg
Get the escalade ext better the 6.2 is a superior engine
Owned mine 6 months best damn truck ever damn near to the point I don't wanna daily it mines is a 08 lt trim that some one ordered with every option including the best one it's got the 6.0
My dream truck O_O
i had a 2002 fully loaded avalanche and i loved it , i might buy another one how i miss the horsepower and luxyry roomy inside
Spectacular and good looking truck. Chevy has yet made a quality american vehicle.
I just picked up an 08 ltz I don't know why gm stopped producing these it's great! It's a great solid truck and easy to work on, anyone know where I can get the nav map updates
I bought on. LOVE IT!
My kind of truck, have had it for 2 years and nothing but accolades for it.
Too bad it is discontinued for 2014, Guess will have to buy the next one used... :)
You could always buy the Escalade but their pretty pricey.
saw that episode of mythbusters I liked the older ones the new ones are getting kind of boring.
we had a 2006 avalanche we traded it off on a cough cough dodge pickup. the dodge was junk and were back in the market for an avalanche. loved it.
I also bought a cough cough Dodge pickup. It had the big 10 cylinder but performed like a slant 6. I now have a 2012 Avalanche that I love.
I heard the avalange has an option to switch from v8 to v4
to help with the fuel consumption
is that true? O.o
It doesn't really help that much. I would delete the AFM system entirely.
@frozencanuckreviews This is a very old video for the 2009 model Avalanche which was just a carryover.. I remember watching this early last year. They removed the video, and just re-uploaded it and changed the title. You're right, the Avalanche is discontinued.
thanks sufjan
I have 2 the firs generasion and the black dimond I love the Chevy avalanche,
Wich was de price for this truk in this year?
Is the ride quality THAT much better with the air suspension?
@frozencanuckreviews
That's a rumor that it would be discontinued after the '13 model year, but consumer responses should help keep the Avalanche going. I see a lot of Avalanches still on the road.
Never liked the old Avalanche, this is way better looking!!!

You won't regret that swap.
Too bad the Yukon didn't get its own SUT version, the Avalanche for the Tahoe and Suburban, and the Escalade EXT, would have made a nice middle model
Is this Napoleon Dynamites brother Kip?
How much does it cost to fill the tank
Prob close to a bill i have a 06 gmc sierra and i put 40 bucks in and its barley over half a tank assuming it has the same 32 gal gas tank. its a thirsty truck but they all are.
All you have that day. $2.50 gal X 31 gal tank is $77.50.
Hey let’s drop some photos of our Avy’s
I don't know how on youtube.
I love the avalanche because I like the look of the Suburban, but I have no need for the extra space in seating.
The 2013 Avalanche is the final year of the Avalanche. See wikipedia under Chevrolet Avalanche for reference to that fact. It's sad, it was a versatile truck. I want one.
I miss Chevy avalanche. :'( I'm a grown man crying over a car. LOL
I thought the avalanche was discontinued.
que troca tan nmas equipDA
It won motortrend 2002 truck of the year and Consumer Reports Top Pick Pickup Truck then they still discontinued it after 2 generations
he looks like steven kings younger brother
this review is old i can tell by looking at the drives door
ummm Who is holding a kayak and just seating 2 people? lol but that pass-through does seem pretty versatile
(hey sufjan)
0:42 ... put it corner to corner... duh
very nice and innovative but itn should be for the ridiculous pricetag of this and all the other brands that have comperable vehicles.what happened to the straight up utility vehicle?to many rich ranchers who want a 4x4 cadilac with a pick up bed

Sure, but compare it to a 1500 and you'll probably end up with a different result.
you spelled CHEVROLET wrong!!! Fast car.
I guess that works for the folks that go kayaking by themselves, but real trucks are available with longer beds for jobs just like that, and you can take some friends too. It’s not a real twin turbo lol
Sufjan Stevens brought me here
I prefer the first avalanche z71
I want manual with duramax engine pls
Change for a dollar?
ЭТО МОЙ ДРИМ КАР
I got one it’s cool Truck 🛻
He calls that driving in snow lol. Consumer reviews is for bored housewives/ soccer mom looking to buy their next mall cruiser.
In 2014 it will be.
the guy sounds liek the brother in napoleon dynamite
not until 2013
Quechulada y gual quiero una
SEXY TRUCK

Mine did too, I tweaked the panels until it quit leaking.
Why would you want to drive over 100 anyways lol do you care about your life lol
That wheel option is depressing.
This old ass video. Make a new 2012 video not a reused video from 2007 which this is. Talk about the new 6 speed.
after 2013
Not tell 2013
The avalanche is quite rare. A silverado is better. Looks better too. But this is nice.
why chevy kill this truck
In theory, there was no point for GM to market on the avalanche since crew cabs are now standard in the new Silverado and Sierra trucks. But Gm will market a truck equivalent to the avalanche in the future. It wont be labeled as a model itself. I'll just be an add on package for the crew cab Silverado.
ridgeline006 It cost them $15K more to make an Avalanche than a Silverado
this is hilarious. to anyone who knows anything about cars this is pure comedy. consumer reports should stick to reviewing electric shavers.
I'd get a real truck l, not a suburban thats had a sex change operation.
It's not a Truck. It's a balance between an SUV and a Truck. It's an SUT. You want a truck get a Silverado!
Even though I have an Avalanche I thought your comment was amusing.
V8 14MPG city....lol...No Thank You.
So i counted at least 7 moves just to store garbage under 2 feet tall, ok I guess a Tahoe or a regular pick up truck are no match to this avalanche of sh!t
chevy avalanche is not even a pickup truck
fucking taper truck
Ugh
Nobody needs to drive a monster truck around...
Ha FAAAAAAAKE!
I want it
