My 2008 Avalanche is priceless. Even guys with new trucks and all the "innovation" complement my old truck looks and performance.

I just wish they made the midgate 60/40 as well and you could just fold down part of the midgate you wanted, unless you latched the glass in of course. That way if you leave the window up and just want to lay the 40% side of the midgate down, or just the 60% side down and still have a passenger or 2 in the back while hauling something...you could.

Never leave it on auto 4wd if set to auto and 4wd kicks in when it's not needed not only does your fuel usage go up but your wearing on the transfer case and auto diff locks. This will happen no matter what in auto when braking down hill. Only use auto when the road is wet / slippery, like gravel. But really you only need 4wd or 2wd in the avalanche or any truck. Either you need traction or you don't. Also you shouldn't go faster than 55mph while 4wd is on.(check with your dealer/owners manual) I've seen a number of trucks require repair because the owner didn't know enough about the 4wd and set it to auto thinking it will work when I need it only to have a spendy repair after 35-50k miles. The 4wd is capable of lasting the life of the truck if cared for correctly.

I really like this car...it is very useful. I dont think I will use the cargo bed to put long items very often, since I wouldnt use it as a work vehicle, but as my personal use and weekend trip vehicle.

@backintack My Dad has a 2006 Avalanche, and he had the dealer put some sort of liquid coating on the plastic to keep it looking new. About 5 years later and he still has it, and the plastic cladding still looks great.

@proxima For your information, whenever you are carrying long items like wood boards, you must tight them and secure them. What happened to your friend would happen in any regular pick up truck. If the item remains in a position where it can move (like when the wood board is too long to fit the cargo bed and you have to let it lay on the frame behind the cab rear window) you must secure it, because if you get hit behind, that board will airborn and fall over someone else, you see?

BTW, this truck should not be compared with a heavy duty truck like the F-150. This is just a large SUV with some Truck capabilities, for fun and light work use. When the cargo bed is extended by opening the midgate, it just for few long items, not a pile of 2x4 wood boards. Just playwood or dry wall sheets, nothing above the top line that is after folding the rear seats, behind the driver/front passenger seats. Off course, everything in the cargo area must be secured.

The active fuel management on the avalanche was a horrible idea because they all fail and cause major issues costing the owner up in the thousands to repair. Best Solution if this ever happens to anyone with a Chevy avalanche that has flex fuel and active fuel management you will know as as number 6 or number 3 cylinder will stop working you can do a delete DOD of the act of fuel management you will think that your transmission is going because it will hardshift as well I'm after doing 9 delete from multiple people multiple people they love the way it performs after the fact and they no longer have that issue It most certainly should have been a recall
