  • This week from Aviero to Nazare on the Portuguses coast cruising in our 40 foot sailboat. A sailing vlog you can't rely on. Covering non factual facts and a mini dose of sarcasm.
These vlogs on out episode playlist cover our adventures as we travel around. This week is mainly landbased with only a short passage down the coast of Portugal. Sorry for the delayed release. Next week is almost only sailing.

Thanks for the ride along, I'll go read up on Nazare in the Reeds, if all goes to plan I hope to head south on the same route, with my own boat, not in the very far future. Cheers from 🇨🇭

Great job guys and congratulations on the first thousand! The video brought back happy memories of Nazaré - we spent a week there in June and aren’t the marina staff the best?

They are. Very friendly place. And regularly cleaned facilities. Really good stop, with possibly the most straightforward entry on the coast. Defo use that as a stop in future.

You really ought to stop entering unknown ports at night. Given the distances you travel, it's just not necessary. I've been into Nazarre and it's entrance is pockmarked with illegal fishing buoys that are tough to see during the day, let alone at night. Luck will run out one day. Don't push it, is my advice. All the best for the journey further south.

Hi @moonhand8311! Thanks for the comment 😊 I think it’s difficult to say from the limited perspective we’ve given you whether or not entering at night is necessary given the distances we’re going. To give some more context that might have been left out, the anchorage we left on that morning was up a tidal river. We felt it was necessary to wait for slack water to leave this harbour. For us, that timing will dictate our day more than anything else. Additionally, our boat is old and slow, we often plan our travel at 4.5kts (hull speed 6.5 but heavy displacement and ‘undercanvassed’), with daylight running at around 0800- 1930. All of that being said, we actually don’t see much issue with entering ports and harbours at night. It’s become part of our life, and with repetition, has become quite an enjoyable part of any passage (conditions allowing obviously). Before setting off there is a passage plan on chart and paper, with details of leading lights, CTS written down and that is the course we follow. In addition to aid navigation we have - radar, chartplotter, 2nd chart potter, separate charts on table, and ais receive. Luck for us, lobster pots show up on our radar (even birds show up on a night like that). I can see that your comment came from a place of concern to our (and the boats) wellbeing, but we promise that we have a vested interest in our wellbeing too 😁
