      Lina C this is where pansexuality comes in! You just described bisexuality perfectly, where you feel differently depending on the gender of the person, however u are still attracted to both/all genders. Pansexuality is when there is no difference depending on the person’s gender. We are like the gender fluid of sexuality lol! Many people describe pansexuality as being ‘blind to gender’ which is a very vague statement and can give off false information. Rather its being ‘sexually/romantically blind to gender’. Although many people don’t like it, labels especially gender labels can make some people feel identified and valid, so its completely insensitive to say theres no such thing as them, which is what many people think when the phrase ‘blind to gender’ is said. Instead, gender simply isn’t a factor that is countered in when falling for a person.
      Sorry for the little rant! You may have already known this info but just felt like educating!

      Me Yu YES SOMEONE FINALLY ANSWERED MY QUESTION. I think I might have a tiny crush on a girl (my first girl crush, even though I’m not sure if it’s a crush), though I barely ever get butterflies. I was obsessed with trying to get her attention, though, and I wanted to get to know her so bad. With my guy crushes, I definitely get butterflies, and I feel super nervous so I was wondering if guy crushes feel different than girl crushes. Ilysm 💕😭

    People say like "I always knew I was gay" but It took me getting to my freshman year of highschool?? I think I'm bisexual but more attracted to girls. Even though before I never even looked at girls that way, but suddenly I prefer them? It feels different for me liking a girl, it feels more right? I guess you can say. But I do occasionally feel attracted to boys so I just say I'm bisexual for that. As you can tell I'm still confused from all the question marks LMAO. I still need some more experience, but I'm young so I'm not trying to push it too hard. But sexual identity is a big part of life.

    The word bisexual isn't necessarily non-inclusive of nonbinary genders; the bi in bisexual can mean two as in two groups of genders: those like mine and those unlike mine.

      Erin Jolley um no? the fuck.

    • @ej73223
      @ej73223 7 лет назад +8

      Why not? It makes the term more like the definition of pansexuality, but still keeps the word bisexuality for those who are attached to it. I'm not the only one who defines it this way: www.advocate.com/commentary/2015/10/08/heres-why-i-claim-bisexuality
      I'm not saying it's the only way to define it, of course -- that's different for every person. I'm just saying it's one way to define bisexuality without bi meaning binary gender.

    • @sarahbayla
      @sarahbayla 7 лет назад +33

      Agreed! It could also be "two or more" 😁 That said, in the past, the bisexual community has been discriminative towards people outside the M/F binary, and only more recently have we come to be more accepting and including. Just thought I'd share! I identify as bi myself, and I try my best to be informed and thoughtful about the label I use 😊

  • @JessicaSian95
    @JessicaSian95 7 лет назад +120

    I feel like it's a bit naive for anyone to think that because someone is 50/50 bisexual, that they can only give 50% of their attention or love to somebody that they're in a relationship with.. If somebody is straight they could still fancy other people, but at the end of the day if you love somebody you'll give them 100% because they are all that you want. So just because somebody is bi doesn't mean they are more likely to give their partner less love/attention

    • @mrmvpvip
      @mrmvpvip 7 лет назад +4

      I think you are mssing the point. Of course a 50/50 bisexual can be 100% fully attracted to his/her partner, just like straight and gay people. The thing is bisexuals are also 100% attracted to the opposite gender of their partner they're currently with. Straight people fancy other people too BUT their heterosexual desire can be fulfilled by their partners. Bisexual people, meanwhile, can't have their hetero/homosexual desire fulfilled when being with a guy or girl.

    I also strongly identify with the term "Bisexual". And for me, the "Bi" is "I'm attracted to people like me and people who are not like me" so that's basically two groups I guess, it helps erase the whole "there are only two genders" thing.

      GFBC GlenFaughan BorderCollies Trans men and trans women still fit within the binary. They are still men and women, just with the adjective of trans in front of it because they were born with a sex that does not match their gender identity.
      Non-binary people are people who’s sex does not match their gender identity and who have a gender identity that does not fit the binary of man or woman. They’re kind of somewhere in between or they’re outside of it completely(people who are outside of it sometimes identify as agender). By default of having a gender identity that does not match their sex(because the closest thing to a non-binary sex is intersex, but even that doesn’t really work because there’s often one sex it leans more toward that can be identified) non-binary people are also included under the adjective of trans.
      There are also some people who float around amongst and between the genders of woman, man, and somewhere between or outside of the gender spectrum. They can feel like a man or a woman or non-binary or agender or something else at given times. These people are gender fluid although from what I can tell they are extremely rare(obviously), even in the trans community.
      Gender’s a fucking mess and it’s really hard to explain but from what I’ve been able to gather over the years, this is honestly the best explanation I can give you. In any case we’re always working with a binary, but just like a lot of things where there are two extremes, there’s gonna be something in the middle that doesn’t fit in enough with either of the two to still be included under those labels. Like yeah there can still be masculine women and feminine men, but that shows that they still know they fit somewhere in the binary. Non-binary don’t feel they can say they fit within the binary in all honesty.

    Loved the video! You touched on a topic that bothers me a lot, which is men not feeling threatened by women. I believe that if a guy "allows" his girlfriend to kiss/sleep with women but not men, it shows that he feels superior to women. That is obviously crap but it makes me mad anyways that some men think a man could "steal their woman" but a woman couldn't because he's better than her.

    • @Sophia-AS
      @Sophia-AS 5 лет назад +1

      i agree that it is annoying if the "freedom" is given in this superior way,and honestly it makes the guy unintresting. but let's say you have a relationship where u trust, that your partner doesn't walk away from you if he/she/they has a flirt/kiss/sex with s.o. else. doesn't necessarily has to be a generally open relationship, i just want to put emphasis on the trust. i "only" have my body with my sex and my definition as gender. i wonder sometimes if i can ask of my partner to not have intimate physical experiences, that i'll never be able to give. so if a person would give me the "freedom" with this kind of view, then this act can be very much sincere and loving. and it would be trust and not superiority that makes the person believe your not gonna get "stolen". just a thought...

    Rosie is like the most respectful human being while still managing to delve into/analyze really complex and possibly sensitive topics so FUCKIN PROPS TO YOU. Also, I think it totally makes sense that you would act differently in a female-male relationship than a female-female relationship because OF COURSE our relationships are shaped by society! And yes, in an ideal world, we could have straight relationships and gay relationships and whatever other relationships and you could act exactly the same in all of them, but it's not your fault if you fall into these sort of predetermined heteronormative roles-- if you think you can be in a relationship that's entirely free of societal expectations and pressures, you're kidding yourself! That's why I find same-sex relationships so interesting; there's so much less predetermined structure, but sometimes we still find ourselves drifting towards one "role" or another. Anyway, no need to feel bad about perhaps following some girlfriend stereotypes when in a same-sex relationship, I think that the fact that you're AWARE of this and questioning it is totally admirable and that's how we're ultimately going to change society! Again, props to my absolute favorite RUclipsrs for being so respectful yet genuine, love you guys!!

    So I personally use bi to describe myself, to mean I am attracted to both my gender and other genders, so it doesn't have to mean 'two genders' as such - you aren't necessarily being dismissive of non-binary or genderfluid people

    • @xotbirdox
      @xotbirdox 7 лет назад +5

      Katie Vero But "bi" literally means two. Bicycle. Bilateral. Binaural. Binary. You can't just change the definitions of words. Bisexual means being attracted to both sexes/both sides of the gender binary, that is what it has always meant and people can't just change that. There's a reason pansexual and polysexual exist. So that people who feel attracted to more than the gender binary can have a label as well. You don't have to change the definition of bisexual when existing labels already fit the bill. There's nothing wrong with not being attracted to non-binary people. I have nothing against them, I'm just personally only attracted to cis men and women. And that's ok. We don't need to change the definitions of sexualities to be more "inclusive." It's like saying a gay person is sexist towards the opposite sex simply bc they aren't attracted to them, it just doesn't work that way.

    • @ayeletdrago
      @ayeletdrago 7 лет назад +5

      xotbirdox who the fuck changes the meaning of a word? literally the bisexual community has been defining bisexuality ever since the 90s as the attraction to people from one's gender and other genders. Two groups. Bi. Bisexuals recognized ever since the 90s the existence of the gender spectrum.

    • @ayeletdrago
      @ayeletdrago 7 лет назад +2

      xotbirdox also you can't pull that pan/poly card. before pan there was omnisexual and those two terms merged to mean "gender blind attraction". So did polysexual and bisexual. Definitions change. Also, "bisexuality" started as a term to describe what doctors thought was a medical condition like "homosexuality". Straight people defined bi people's identities for years, so sorry that we claimed our identity as ours and gave it our meaning. Ultimately, bi people as a community define bisexuality as the attraction to their gender and other genders, and there's nothing you or anyone else trying to dictate our identity can do. Sorry.

    • @mariebourgot4949
      @mariebourgot4949 4 года назад +1

      @@xotbirdox Educate yourself instead of spreading misinformation for your own self interest, the word bisexual is not your property to use and decide what other people can and cannot do. You can only decide how you define it specifically for yourself within the broader definition, but only for you! Flash news: words change meaning over time since language exist by being used, it's called living language. Also no, word don't necessary stick to their ethymological meaning and can actually go sideways. You are 30 years late, the definition of bisexuality changed in the 90ties and meant as an umbrella terms where people can have their own defintion with subtlties and where pansexuality is included in. Yes, all pansexual people are bi but not all bi people are pan. Depends of the def of different peeps. It's about politicall awarness, bi people didn't wait for the awarness of trans/NB folks to have sex and/or relationship them, it was always the case, it's just that it wasn't specified in the defintion. The awarness of trans/NB peeps didn't make them magically appear, that just made them more socially visible. Your personal defintion of bisexuality is included in the broader definition of bi, just don't think it's the only valid one. Bi/Pansexuality are overlapping because of the usage people are doing of it and there's nothing wrong with that.

    The part about the difference between a girl and a girl hitting on your girlfriend really fucks me up because I don’t even fully understand why it’s like that. It 100% has to do with society though. My girlfriend is absolutely gorgeous and is naturally more feminine than I am and attracts lots of straight men, well she attracts every living thing tbh lol. But when a girl hits on her, I don’t feel any jealously, and I know it’s because I feel equal to other girls even if I think they are more physically attractive than I am. Then when a guy hits on her it’s literally completely different and I’ll get super protective. I know half of the reason it’s like this for me personally is because I’ve had girlfriends where they cheated on me with a guy, but I know this happens to people who haven’t experienced that too!. I think a big part of it is in general, of course not every guy ok but they are bad at taking rejection and I’ve literally encountered this on multiple occasions. If we go out together and a girl hits on my girlfriend, she will be friendly and say she has a girlfriend and then 99% of the time the girl will be super friendly back, compliment us both, sometimes apologise and then leave us alone. Whereas when a straight guy hits on my girlfriend it’s like almost every time a completely different reaction. Once my girlfriend says she isn’t interested, and will be as friendly as she was towards a girl who hit on her, the guys almost every single time will either straight away get super offensive and angry or say something like “why don’t both of you come with me” or “i’ll change that”, like there’s only been a few occasions where the guy will have a nice reaction and leave us alone.
    It’s just literally so annoying, does anyone else get this???

      Yeah I have found men to react worse to a rejection, to not get the point & move on, where as women tend to accept it & go away.

      I would get super insecure if my boyfriend(who's straight tho) got hit on by a girl rather then a boy because I would feel like I should be the only girl and I wouldn't mind him getting hit on by a guy at all, because I don't have what they do, so it wouldn't feel like cheating. 💜💜💜

    I love your attitude. You always express your opinion (controversial or not) but you do it very respectfully. You are aware that there are things you don't know but argues well from the information you have. Thank you, Rosie. I got to think a lot through the video.
    Oh about the different attraction to men and women thing. I think even though stereotypes and gender roles don't matter, we can't deny that our sex influences us both biologically and socially. In general, men and women do have differences (even though there can are people who don't fit into that stereotype). For example, testosterone makes people more aggressive and assertive, so personally I'm actually quite into soft guys. Conversely, I like strong women. So I realized it's the fact that they stand out against stereotype that I'm into. Also, if you're into athletic people, they are more likely to have bulging muscles if they are men, but not so much as women. I think it's those differences between the genders that make us seem to have different attractions to men and women, although it's not like I can check with everyone's sexuality to see if it's true. But yeah we still have to check ourselves with these things coz we shouldn't automatically play the housewife role just coz we are in a straight relationship.

    I think what some people don't understand is that bisexual people... well, for some people it's like finding a man more attractive than another, you could find a woman more attractive than a man sometimes. It just depends on the particular person, not just because of the sex and/or sexuality.
    For other people, it feels different finding a woman attractive than finding a man attractive.
    It just depends on the person >♡

    I feel like I've said this before in a comment, but I genuinely love how open you are and how dedicated you are to respecting people's truths, being inclusive, and learning. I'm also bi and we're the same age so I relate to you about the levels of knowledge I had growing up aroud sexuality and gender. I've had to learn a lot as an adult about the lgbt community. But I think so often, even older lgbt people don't want to do that learning and don't want to be inclusive because it scares and confuses them. And as a society, we just don't want to interrogate our own understanding of gender because it is really hard. So yeah, I just think your willingness to do those things and do them on camera and create this supportive community are beautiful parts of you as a person and really make a difference for others. Keep it up!

      Natalie Tris I do to. The information i got from research is that when the term bisexual was coined, people weren't super aware of non binary genders so that's why it's called that but with more awareness coming forward I don't think it has to literally mean two genders, just more than one. So that's how I define it.

      I've done a lot of research and bisexual has been, since day one, the meaning of being attracted to male and females. My friends who even had troubled identifying their sexuality all said it as well. That's why there's pansexual. My friends have admitted that they label themselves as bisexuals because they feel like it's easier and simple than saying you're pansexual.

    potentially I am bisexual, but then I am, personality wise, very much unable to focus on more than one thing at a time - so when I was interested in men, I tried to ignore my attraction towards women, I tried to say I was straight; then I got pissed off with never attracting my ideal kind of guy, and opened up to channeling my energy towards women and its actually easier for me to say I prefer women sexually and men romantically. I am so complex because I will have feelings for a particular guy and get all loved up and attracted to them physically, but then... I switch and I will have even stronger feelings for more women, in particular one kind of woman, so I know I have a feminine side but I feel I have a dominant male side and its that male side that maybe gets me more attracted to women... but then I always wondered... why do we have to be masculine to fall in love with women? Why can't feminine energy attract female energy and male energy attract male energy? In a spirutual sense I fall in love with archetypes... and its like I live in this web of connectivity and I have all these soul mates dotted around me in certain positions depending on their vibe... I feel I am usually always linked to one person in a close way, such as this position I am in on the web of connectivity is my home and where I feel most comfortable and that person next to me has a lot of feminine energy... THEN elsewhere on the web is a being with male energy and has a different personality but when I am in a certain mood, like I'm feeling hyper or sociable, I will seek out that being and want to put my romantic energy towards them... so I've pinned it down to, when I am still and in a homely mood I want the woman there so I can connect with my still and calm side, but when I am in a hyperactive, loose mood where I don't want to play the man, I want the guy there so I can connect with that part of myself. So it's like I have dual personalities, but for some reason the main personality I need to feed in this lifetime is the male personality who is into the woman - it still seems very off that men are supposed to be attracted to women 😕 I'm trying to figure out whether in a spiritual sense we just belong with certain archetypes and we recognise them in certain genders for some reason, or spiritually we are flexible but depending on our genes our bodies crave sex from one or maybe it depends on our life purpose or individual personality? I'm just inclined to think we are all androgynous beings and we link to certain beings depending on multiple factors and our circumstance.

    @Rosie and @Rose, yours is the first video that I watched that made me reassess my sexuality. I was out and gay during 7th grade until 2nd year in college. Its when I tried to be straight and went with the flow until lately nothing is really happening with trying to be straight. Its not expressing me. I have always been attracted to my friends that are girls but I try not to be obvious or else they'll freak out. But when I watched these 2, they made accepting myself and being 'out' to myself possible. That's step I didnt even thought of. I just want to thank them both! You're always making us feel accepted. One can prefer red hair or blond or like both. If you like both you can still have 100% relation with just one.

    I completely agree with everything you said in this video, it was so helpful! being bisexual myself I can completely relate to everything, especially when people say that bisexuality is 'a phase'. that's extremely irritating. thank you for making this video rosie. it has impacted me a hell of a lot, I love you!

    Here's a comment on the last question: I had an ex who was okay with me sleeping with other women but not with men. It wasn't that he saw my sexual relations with women as "less valid" he just understood that sex with women offered me physical things that he could not provide. Why would I need to sleep with another person with a penis, when I had him already? But to have sex with somebody with with a vagina, he couldn't do that for me and was comfortable with me seeking that elsewhere, so long as we remained open about it and communicated if either of us were uncomfortable with anything, and I was clear with any woman I slept with too.
    HOWEVER. I have also been in relationships where guys have told me "other girls don't count" and "sure you can sleep with girls, that's hot" and THAT is a problem.

    This whole video was just so encouraging, even though I know ultimately my sexuality is personal and shouldn't be effected by others, but it really feels good to hear it from someone I really admire. You and Rose are truly an inspiration and thanks for all dem good videoZ! 😁

    I really agree with the ‘playing part rol’ with being with a guy or with a woman!!!!!
