I have a US passport; would would you suggest I do to be able to stay in China for at least 4 months (for business)? I dont know if I should get an invitation letter because I was planning on visiting multiple factories. I dont want to give the factory that issued the invitation the impression that I will do business with them because I might choose a different factory.
An invitation letter is essential. It is not a commitment to buy, but you should visit them. You can be granted a visa for single or multiple entries for 30/60/90 days based on your application.
A spouse requires a dependent visa - it must be linked to a work or study visa. It is unlikely to be granted to a business visa holder (as it is a short-stay visa by its very nature).
We all understand that Pakistanis have difficulties. However, there any many Pakistanis in China, why? Because they have work visas. China wants to see that you are doing genuine business in China, at a significant level. Complying with the visa. And earn tax dollars for China. You need to assist yourself, by showing a visa officer, that you are doing significant business in China that is worthwhile giving you are visa.
