I am all for safety. But restricting the mph is just holding back a record. Wear all your safety gear and take all the precautions necessary and let the captain deem what is safe. They know the risk. We are humans! we love pushing the limits. Congrats! Beautiful boat.
From what I understand. The speed was limited because of the class that the boat entered into due to being an open cockpit instead of having an enclosed canopy cockpit. Edit, what I meant was…. To obtain the record in that class. They had to play by the rules. I doubt anything is stopping them from making a run that doesn’t count at any speed they want 😁

The issues you run into is the insurance companies and legal teams behind corporations hold a good amount of power in situations like this. You don’t want to risk getting on the wrong side of your insurance company, because if there ever comes a day where you need them, they will turn around and look for any reason to not cover you. And you will always have the legal teams looking at all of the “What if this happens” and treating them as a “When this happens”
Well after making numerous fishing trips to the Bahamas out of Fort Lauderdale let me be the first to say what a Bad Ass friggin' run that is for Cigarette Racing Speedboats. And to think they had to throttle that beast back or be penalized! Well done gentlemen!
Thank you! Keeping it under 100mph was actually quite the challenge. It wants to run, so any minor adjustments were putting the boat too far under or over the target speed. We learned the throttles need some fine tuning for runs like that!

If only it were that easy! Keeping it at a constant speed just under 100mph was actually a lot more of a challenge than expected. Every little throttle adjustment was taking it over 100 or too far under. That boat wants to run over 100. Throttle adjustments to make them less sensitive will be done before the next run.
So, given the "maximum speed limit" of 100mph, what _IS_ the theoretical best time a boat in this class could make the run? I'll even allow 300 seconds to go from idle speed to 100mph.
@@jonkje but that makes 0 sense considering anyone with money can buy this boat and go 130+ yet a trained, skilled, and experienced crew is limited on power while going after a record?
@@CigaretteRacing01 Yep, although I like the Bermuda Challenge better. As far as I know the _ONLY_ rule to compete is you have to be a BOAT under 40 feet in length. By boat I think they mean no WIGE aircraft or hovercraft type vehicles. I _think_ a hydrofoil cat like the Insetta 35IFC would qualify. Not sure if Cigarette has something to compete with it. . . FWIW, the current record holders are: Outboard class 22H23m and Inboard class 15H48m. This is a 780 mile open ocean run from New York harbor to Gates Fort Bermuda. Oh yeah, the outboard class record was set in 2002 and the inboard class was set in 2013
Cats will always have the top end but cigs have more room on them, cabin to sleep in. Can handle the big chop smoother and with style at 90-140mph. Top speed isnt everything
