If it doesn't have a bad smell and hasn't dried out, and you think you'll use it sometime, there's no reason to throw it away😀

I do default panning. Like if there is something specific I want to use that day, I will use it, but if I just want to slap something on and not think about it, I use my project pan products. So I guess I use them as my “daily” look, and break out from them whenever I want something more creative.

I would ditch the liquid eyeliner, l would class it like a mascara in terms of bacteria issues. Powders & pencils or anything not near the eye l would say go for your life as long as it seems ok ❤️

I saw Lauren May Beauty do a video about how Project Panning wasn't working for her anymore, and that she was shifting to a commitment to using all her products over the course of a year. The points she made in her video really resonated with me. I've never been interested in hitting pan on things because it stresses me out to use things up and also i think products look ugly after hitting pan, and that has made me feel somewhat guilty, because i felt that meant i was being wasteful (in the eyes of other people). After seeing LMB's video, i felt validated because i realized that as long as i was using my products, i was getting use out of them, regardless of whether or not i hit pan or completely used up a product. Now, my perspective is that if i start getting really low on a product, it only means that i'm neglecting my other products, so i aim to use my products evenly, instead of focusing on individual products and hitting pan or using them up.
PS...i might have mentioned this before; if i have, i'm sorry for repeating myself LOL

I have a colorful, duochrome Super Shock highlighter that I've been working on for over 4 years, and it's still going strong! It's not an every day item for me, and not something I would pan, but I love shopping my stash for it when I'm feeling something a little more playful and fun. It still feels special, and brings me so much joy when I bust it out. 😸💜✨

It was so interesting to see how your makeup and panning preferences can change within a year. Definitely a good idea to keep asking ourselves if our projects still work for us the same as when we chose them throughout the year, to make sure we don’t start to dislike project panning. 😊

For the eyeliners, I’d toss the yellow. Im thinking you probably won’t want to use it until the spring, then it will likely be dried out. Then I’d put the blue in for Dec with a low usage goal so you can include it in 2022. Blue might go with a cool icy, winter look.

  • @TinaHBeautifulJourney

I love how you can learn so much with a project, even with products you choose not to include. You hit the nail on the head for me. Anything that takes the fun out of makeup isn't going to work for me. Tracking uses or having to monitor progress would kill it for me. I focus on products that are almost gone through organic use and put those in my Project Use Up The Dribs and Drabs--PUUDD. I've gone through over 50 makeup products this year doing it this way. Enjoyed your video. Thanks!

I do a thing where I randomly select a couple eyeshadow shades and challenge myself to use them 3 times each in the month. Super easy and allows me to play with different palettes without focusing too hard on one. Also 3 times is a pretty low bar even for more difficult shades (like this month’s blue!).

  • @thcusandsunny

If the product is not "telling" you it's bad, it's fine to keep IMO. Makeup preferences chance and if there's something I'm not interested in right now, I still keep it, because I won't enjoy spending more money on something akin to what I already owned and threw away.

If you still enjoy the yellow liner & it's still good, no need to get rid of it. As for the SS highlighter, you don't need to pan it, it can be just a specialty item that you roll in. Ideally everything would be panned but it's ok to give yourself permission to just use at a natural pace. Hope this makes sense.

I notice that for me I will feel more comfortable with using my cheaper products and the more expensive ones I don’t want to reach for them and it’s I do not understand it. Maybe I subconsciously want to keep the more expensive products to look at them and keep around. Idk 🤷‍♀️ just learning as I go.

When it comes to eye makeup, like eyeliner, I think you should stop using it after the expiration date. Mainly liquid eyeliner. Pencil eyeliners can be sharpened, so I feel it's really not the same as straight up dipping the brush in the same liquid for over a year 😬

I say if the eyeliner still has ink/color, meaning it’s still “juicy” lol, and it doesn’t have a strange off putting smell/it’s probably ok and u can keep it. If you don’t think u will actually use it tho, I’d de-clutter it. There is no point in having something take up valuable space if it’s never going to get used. The same applies if the item isn’t where u can pass it on to someone who would love to have it in their makeup collection, in that case de-clutter said item ❤

I have been wondering if a negative side effect of project panning is the sort of obsessive need to use up everything to the last drop. I mean, it's a great thing if it happens, but I feel like pre-panning I would have also counted products that are almost done but not quite (like your foundation and blush) as used up. It's kind of more natural, some products I loved enough to wrestle with packaging to get to the last bit, others I was fine with just getting my moneys worth.

  • @erinbeth128

This was very interesting! I had a list of things I wanted to use up or hit pan on this year as well, and recently looked at it and pulled out some of the products I hadn’t hit my goal on and wanted to get some more use out of for the year. However there were some that I just didn’t enjoy using and I think I may pass those along. For example I wanted to pan my No. 7 lift and luminate powder, and that powder just doesn’t work for me like my others do. It sinks into my pores weird and catches onto dry patches, and also leaves weird white dots on my face. I quit trying to pan it because it just doesn’t work, and instead I’m working on my Kosas cloud set which I love!!

Since you want to use up your items organically here is an idea: 1) make a list of the items you want out, but your unsure about.
    2) Take a progress photo of all items on list.
    3) put in everyday makeup area.
    4) take picture mid year and end of the year.
    5) be amazed on what happens(progress, declutter, other)
Simple a lot less stress. Still have items in your view. Make organic decisions when wearing a look.

BUT if you put even a brown (rather than a black as usual)pencil in your upper inner rim, it will make your lashes fuller . Just a tip! Love your videos ❤

The yellow liner is a a liquid right? So long as you’re not using it in your waterlines, you’re unlikely to get it in your eye. So should be fine. And if you really like the highlighter, even though you don’t use it often, just keep it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So long as you’re still getting enjoyment out of it, don’t matter how much you use it.
