Just some extra tips: Performance mode does help you follow the patterns better. Also, as long as you are doing all 3-star difficulty you don't need a perfect score to get the trophy. I had a couple mistakes and still got it.
When I gathered all of the troops when I would screw up I would immediately press retry it would load me back to the commander lady then I would have to talk to her go through the cutscene (that I would skip) if I failed again I would do it again rinse and repeat until you get it right that's how I did it.
I was so sad because I couldn't watch the actual performance because I was too focused on looking for the goddamn prompts on the screen lol. Thank god for youtube videos 😂😂 I kinda wish they could give you an option to replay it without you having to concentrate on the mini game haha

Okay Echoing what a few other people have said, switch to performance mode. I was getting so frustrated because I felt like I was doing well, but the button presses weren't matched up with the song or visuals accurately. Switching to performance mode I got the trophy immediately even after messing up a few times.
Honestly, with all the retries I did prior to watching this cause of the yellow line ( I didn't know you could just super mash), this was so fun. Loved it from start to finish.

Second question.. if you get less than perfect on all 3 does it affect your bonus Affinity with Aerith and Tifa and does it still unlock a couple hidden things tied to another trophy?

Make sure your fingers arent near the dpad, analog sticks, or trigger buttons. Sometimes the haptic feedback triggers a button. For me it was the buttons near the end that would sometimes auto-fail until i watched where my fingers were resting at
If you get the 100K+ score and the trophy didn't pop, make sure you don't "skip" the cutscenes since it pops when Heidegger announces the win NOT at the conclusion of the performance.

It’s actually pretty forgiving with misses. I was able to get the trophy with 1 miss each in both the first two formations and then 5 misses in the third one

some of the ones in the first run are really fucked, I try to hit them before they come up so I'm not late but it makes me miss every time, dont know what I'm doing wrong, think some of it is just designed to make you fuck up
The buster sword isnt specific to Cloud to be fair, its a higher rank SOLDIER sword which Zack, Angeal and other people of their rank use. Its not a common sword among every single rank but its also not uncommon

Score seems to just be based on combo so dont bother trying to get greats everytime. Actually nvm I think there's a score cap no matter how well you do you will get the same score as what is listed here, and you can make mistakes and still have the same score. Just idk how much more mistakes.

Are you absolutely certain this isn't a formation issue? I assume you're not messing a lot of the button presses up. I messed up a bit in the second and third segments, so i was far from perfect but i still got 101,498 or whatever it was

Tip, you just need to keep combos instead of greats and goods. Try to get a maximum of 2 bads per round and you'll clear.

A tip for those still trying, once the button gets bigger press it at the same time.
Just pause the game whenever buttons are approaching to give yourself as much time as you need to prepare.

For what ever reason the square then triangle dash at 6:10 gets me ever time when I end the dash it always counts as a mistake

Just make sure you get the timing right. Hit the button exactly when the light hits the icon.

Good thing the game autosaves right before this part, otherwise I would have had to redo the whole chapter.
This needs to be done in performance mode, the timing is off in graphics mode.
