This guy lived a life! Talent unlimited--he was huge with the insiders but never got his due--he was a giant! Growing old is not for the faint of heart--here he still sounds fantastic.
Had the pleasure to meet Sam and dine with him in Utica NY with several others at "Sloppy Joes". What a pleasure to sit and eat with legend a fond memory.
And a very special thank you for posting this! Lovely to hear Sam still getting that little big band sound with just the three horns he used to get with Loius Prima.
On a junket to Vegas in the early 80's my wife and I learned Sammy was playing in the lounge at the New Orleans Casino. That night we made it a point to be there. It was almost a private concert as there were posibbly 10 people in the joint. The old man could swing like nobodys business. Face it, he was "there". At the end he and the band did the New Orleans Saints go marching in walk around and I got a picture of a beaming Mr Butera at our table. What a PRO! Highlight of my music career.
Orleans was built in 1996...you saw him at the Tropicana or Caesars Palace. The Trop was his home for many years. Then they dropped him and he went to the Orleans.
I have more of Sam. Will dig into it soon. This engagement at Mohegan came off well. All were playing at a higher level and the spirit was good. ... and that Mohegan Sun employee buffet? Foh-ged-da-bout-it.

To hear Sam step out from the shadows is amazing. Louis Prima allowed his band to shine!

Thanks for posting this. Meant to make it to their run at Mohegan, but never did. I think this was their last one.
I WAS BORN IN N.Y.C AND WOW........
Sam Butera is gone. And sadly we lost Jay Miles just recently.
