- A very nice sounding little pair of Monitor Audio Speakers here that you seem to get quite a lot for you money and they do little wrong at this price point.
A great pair of bookshelves that come highly recommended.
I am happy to have a pair, black finish. I've been enjoying them for years.
Monitor audio have always made some of the finest speakers for the money.
Been making speakers since 1972 if my memory serves me.
I bought a pair of their floor standing silver 8i's new in 2001 for £700
after flicking through the latest edition of what hifi magazine at that time.
So i knew what i was after before i walked into my local seven oaks hifi shop.
I still use them as my main speakers, so i bought another secondhand pair about 10 years ago.
Yes, it is true with these Ccam domed tweeters can sound fairly bright with certain amplifiers
especially if you wind your amp up at high listening levels, but then again most speakers will
sound silly if you crank them up in an average sized room.
But i do think the brightness can help with some types of music.
Particularly great if you like electronic synth pop music.
Listen to a decent copy of the human leagues 1981 dare album, the keyboards on the song (seconds) will
show off these kind of speakers.
I love my monitor audios, but in recent times i now have my mind set on some nice bowers wilkins.
But as my silver 8i's are of a good compact design for such a floor standing speaker
and that my living room isn't what you could call large, perhaps these 8i's are a perfect match because
they don't over dominate my listening space with too much bass.
I think my speakers at a good comfortable listening volume sound quite sweet yet subtle.
The B2 series are a fine looking speaker, and again monitor audio have pack all that detailed sound
into
what i'd call a great looking compact box that will compliment any great sounding setup.
Thanks for the comment and I will check the Human League track out
Great find, Mick! My first hi-fi speakers were a pair of Monitor Audio MA16s, bought in 1980 with my first wages. They're still going strong, and despite being the bottom of the range model they're still the sweetest-sounding speakers I've ever heard. Same dead knock as your B2s - Monitor Audio really know how to make a good cabinet!
Thanks Nev, yes these are quite a nice sounding pair of speakers
Nicely done as always Michael 👍.
Jim🏴🙂
Thanks Jim
I think you got a good deal on these. Monitor Audio never made any shabby stuff. I would keep the fronts on. I think wood and silver is a terrible combo.
Yes me to, pick ups can be rewarding as long as the petrol does not outway the saving and a plus point no damage in the post.
i have ones with a nad 325bee...good sound!
Ive got a pair of bronze br1 speakers, the treble is nearly non existant, the bass is lacking and the mids are very harsh, in a nutshell i hate them.
Interesting, these are certainly better than how you discribe the br1's
These are 130 on ebay :( .
You might be lucky getting a pair for around £100. I was very lucky in a local pick up for £35
@@MichaelYates I'd feel luckier if you sold them to me ;)
@@MichaelYates Celestion Ditton 15 XR speakers or these any thoughts ?
I have the opportunity maybe to get some pick up depending on price .
Im willing to goto 150 .
@@itisjustacomment The Monitor Audio bronze B2 are better and nicer sounding speakers. Just to clairify its the bronze B2 model
@@itisjustacomment I would hang it out as they as quite a few have sold for £55 to £80 so £130 is expensive
