I feel empowered now that I have more control over my finances! I didn't buy a single new lipstick in 2023, no starbucks coffee , bring lunch to work and expensive skincare bans are doing wonders to mental health. the idea of retiring early stops me from mindless shopping! Intentional purchases make me happy and at peace!!!
Yes! I bought sooo many sheet masks and under eye patches during the pandemic bc they sparked joy during that time, but they are SOOO expensive, and honestly I find aquaphor does a great job of sealing in moisture and product, and brightening my complexion, like those masks do , and it’s cheaper and requires less packaging. I still have weeks worth of masks to use, I really went nuts!
Local library have E books you can download in your iPad. You don’t even need a kindle. all free. You can download at least 6 books at one time. You can also reserve books. All the best sellers available.
Great tips and very practical! I love how you emphasize that a wedding is not your spotlight so it is okay to wear something that you have worn already 🙏🏻
I am absolutely an outfit repeater. I live in CA and started holiday traveling about 3 years ago, so I had to purchase "winter" clothes. I, unsurprisingly, do not wear this clothes in CA, but I DO repeat my winter outfits to whatever destination I'm going to that year. The pieces are quality and keep me warm. Yes, my travel pictures have the same sweater from one year to the next but the ability to afford to even travel far outweighs the materialistic. Plus, I've learned that changing up a scarf makes your outfit look completely different lol
Summary: 1. Books-majority at library or on kindle 2. Impulse Purchases-wait at least 2 weeks before purchasing 3. Don’t Upgrade Gadgets-if they work don’t upgrade 4. Special Occasion Outfits-totally can repeat an outfit 5. Take out coffee-no Starbucks, don’t have to order when you pass a shop 6. High Heels-the pain is simply not worth it 7. Bottled Water-use water filter at home 8. No Souvenirs-always forgets about them 9. Luxury Bag Charms-not practical even if cute 10. Nail Polish, Manicure or Pedicure-just has plain nails 11. No New Makeup Products-just sticks to what works and essential 12. Designer T-Shirts-no worth the price 13. Cleaning Sprays-uses vinegar with water 14. Home Decorations-after initial interior designer bought items, no new purchases
I love this video!! As adults, it’s time for us to be ourselves, and we don’t need to buy into trends that don’t really work for us - like w the leather handbag charms, or high heels, that you mentioned. I don’t buy anything higher than ~9cm, and if so, only chunky more stable heels, bc I’m a runner and I value my feet for running, and higher heels just hurt too much & made me afraid of injury! It’s so wonderful to have voices like yours on the internet 😊
Great video. I have recently given my home a good sweep through getting rid of unnecessary items... I found myself in a shop yesterday just looking and well I started trying on things. Half way through I just hung it all up left thinking what was I doing I don't need this so a win for my pocket . It's a hard lesson sometimes but a good one .
When we go fine dining, I remember the food we ate that we both liked and search the recipes online. I try to recreate them. So we get more than the cost of the dinner but I learned something new that would remind us of beautiful memories. One way of being frugal.
Love the list! I'm a maximalist by heart and I love collecting especially books. I re-read a lot so it makes sense to me to have them on hand. I do borrow books from the library first before buying coz I only want to keep books that I really like and I know that I will re-read in the future. I do agree about electronics, I don't replace mine as long as it is still working. I hate the hassle of transferring data and re-learning how to operate the new gadgets 😂
I stopped buying coffee out years okay. I own a few coffee makers including a cold brew one. I am very happy with experimenting and making my own. You are right about nail polish. I also thanks to my grandmother built a classic wardrobe. I still have clothes from years ago that look great. I have replaced some this year due to wear over a long period of time but I do not buy trendy. My vice had been handbags but I am now working on that. I no longer feel like I need to have everyone I see. Hopefully I can get back to where I once was.
Same here. No bottled water: I bring my own water bottle everyday. No Starbucks coffee / drinks: sugar drinks are bad for health and skin No mindlessly exploring makeup: only stick with the makeup that is flattering on me with high cp value No manicure, pedicure or nail polish: saved a lot of money and time No upgrade on iPhones / electronics: never a fan No designers’ clothes: never thought about buying I still wear hills, but I only have a few pairs, when compared to flats i have / buy.
If only we would learn this sooner! I use 2 bags when travelling, the one I leave with & one that goes with all my outfits! Travelling light & uncomplicated is key!
Spot on Eileen. I am with you 100% . I feel good about not spending money on these items . Every penny saved is every penny earned. Happy New Year 2024.
Making your coffee at home is a great saver of money! I track my spending and even with one coffee a day, I can easily spend over $1200 a year. So I went cold turkey, bought a decent coffee machine and cut down on that spending.
I take care of my clothes and shoes, i repair my clothes and bring the shoes to the cobbler as soon the seasons changes. In the winter i bring my spring/summer shoes and in spring my wintershoes. I‘m so picky with 41, i need good quality material in my wardrobe. There are great stores with a great selection of timeless designs like COS, Uniqlo etc. The key is how you take care of the material, cashmere handwashing, ironing shirts, proper hangers and storage. I absolutely understand your points…We‘ll as humans we’re all consume to much and on the other hand the mountains of stuff its time consuming. I plan 2024 a no buy year, no new clothes, no new shoes and no new stuff.
I love to travel, but I find my favorite souvenirs are the photos I take. I will print out a couple of my favorite photos, put them in nice picture frames, and display that as a memory of the trip. It’s so much more gratifying than some shot glass or figurine cluttering up my space.
My replacement for souvenirs has been buying functional items that originate or are iconic to the place I am visiting. For example, we have a Tiffany store in my city but I didn't buy the necklace I wanted until I visited New York
I do visit Starbucks a few times a week and will continue doing it. My Zen time. However, I buy *nothing* else other than food and personal care items. Have saved a small fortune.... and a little bit of that savings goes to Starbucks.
There were few things I was able to stop spending on from your list and your video gave me the idea to do the same for other things. Healthy & Happy living and contentment is the key!
My Birthday is in January. As a teen my mom & I would go shopping This Time to get the fun things such as clothes cheaper than they were before Christmas. A little patience goes a long way. My Fave Items I buy At This Time: 1) Cards & ornaments for next year 2). Decore & table wear (my fave colour is Red & I love snow patterns all year) 3) Food &Drinks.Holliday blend coffe & teas or chocolates taste great till spring. 4) PJs agin I like Red & snowflakes Flannel good till spring. Buying a few fun thing the end of oneChistmas season means I don't get FOMO at the beginning next one. Great vidi 😎☕💋
Agree with you Eileen I prefer my natural nails and to keep it short. Also the DIY cleaning spray is absolutely a good idea No need to spend a lot for over priced t. Shirt too. Thanks! 🥰❤️
Another RUclipsr I follow talked about 24 things she's not buying in 2024 and it inspired me to make my own list. A lot of what is on my list are things I just have too many of but for some reason keep buying. Hoping this helps me to break the habit! About 1/3 of my list is consumables too so perhaps I will finally use up a lot of it. And not buy again!
👏🏼. Great vid. As your other subbies stated below, I gave up luxury last year except for Starbucks. It is one of my life pleasures that I daily share with my granddaughter. My favorite bag is Uniglo’s mini bag which cost a whopping $14.00 in Japan. Happy New Year!
I love luxury minimalism. I don't look like a 'target' but my clothing is of the best garments, I buy in local boutiques and in artisanal markets, second hand is second best place to look for luxury items though you need to go to a posh area for really good deals.
My only buys this Winter were a very good pair of hiking boots and jacket to match- sale items of course. I have a signature white sweater I replace as weight fluctuates and I have it in a round neck and polo. My go to out and about in Winter .. a nod to the snow we never see any more:) And one bag. Sale. Necessary for my day job. Coffees cost a fortune- I brought home every paper cup for a year to meditate on how much it adds up to. Now wondering if I can do a craft project with them!
I absolutely love your state of mind. And I get where you’re totally coming from. Spend my money on trivial things. let’s just say a wallet I gotta have one in black, and brown color. But I’m happy to say I’ve had the same wallet for five years and it still looks brand new . my price point in life will never buy me or get one a Chanel or any big name pocketbook companies Chanel, Gucci,H, or a Louis Vuitton, I would (die)LOVE to have, one but will never be in my budget in my lifetime. Now I do truly believe in re-purposing purses. I never throw mine away. I always put them in a bag and put them in a suitcase. I live in a small home. I don’t have a way to display my purses or my shoes as nice as you have Single mother of four raising my children were the most important thing to me. The most expensive purse I’ve ever gotten was Coach. But I did go to the extremes where I would buy a purse once a year on my celebration of life. In my 20s, I was diagnosed with cancer. And so I thought getting a personal year would be just the right thing and now that is totally taken over my life as far as I have way too many. I cannot tell you how quickly that adds up. yes and I probably could sell them. But what I choose to do is a donate them and not to Goodwill. I go to like women shelters and even some of my bags look like a man’s suitcase bag. So I love the fact that I get to help other people and otherwise they would never get to own, it’s the best smile on my face because after all, that’s what we have things for if you do not pull it out and use it for the past year or two then you don’t need it, but somebody else truly does. My compulsion with buying were so bad that I have literally boxes and boxes of school supplies that many years ago when they were a penny or five cents for things and I still continue to give them out to community and go to schools that’s how many I have it’s ridiculous , but I’m always happy to give so thank you for helping me see some more things that I was missing. We have been in the same house for almost 20 years and stuff like that ends up cluttering your home I like to live clean nice smooth areas where I can vacuum , and you don’t realize how bad someone else needs it and you need to get rid of it. Thank you thank you thank you.
Something I don’t spend money on is going out to, or ordering, lunch during the work day. I would rather pack an inexpensive lunch at home and save the money for a nicer dinner date with my husband on the weekend. 😊
I add things into my shopping cart or wish list and give it time to think if I really need it. sometimes it goes out of stock or I go back and look at it and realize it's not something I want or something I will wear daily. Yes it helps me save. I stop buying dresses for special ocassions too bc those don't happen often and I stop buying heels. Now I buy more of clothes I will wear more often. I also stop waiting for a special day to wear nice. I try to wear nicer even at home. I am more into comfort nowadays.
I’m being a lot more mindful of my money and intentional about my spending. As the next year is fast approaching, I’ve made a very short list of items I’ve been wanting for quite some time that I plan to purchase over the next year. Anything outside of that needs to be justified. I don’t plan to buy purses, shoes, clothes like I usually do. I want to see my savings account grow.
I'm really glad you mentioned where you get your T-shirts from...it seems like a small thing but I'm always so unsure of where to go to find inexpensive items that won't look terrible, fall apart, etc.
Thanks for this video. I just found you. 😊 I never got the point of take out coffee. Coffee is such a at-home-relaxing thing for me. I could never get that from a paper cup filled with a hot beverage that costs a fortune.
Sounds like my list Eileen. 👏🏼 👏🏼 on the nails, makeup, and accessories and Knick knacks. Simple nails and makeup is very elegant and classy. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year!
I did a lot of decluttering and downsizing laat year. And shopped far lesser than I normally would. I have zero debts and enough savings but that doesn’t mean i keep accumulating.
I stopped buying Starbucks YEARS ago. What a giant wait of money. I brew high end Coffee at home....I cook at home most days, bring my lunch & 95% of the time cook Dinner, always Breakfast. We do drive Cars for many years... We stopped the mass consumerism long ago. I even scour FB Marketplace for items people practically give away! We're downsizing to spend more time traveling!
I enjoyed the video! I agree with you on all things especially doing my own manicure/pedicure and no polish and l have a iPhone 7 and l love it. 😂 Thanks for sharing.
I don’t allow myself to walk into luxury stores (LV, Chanel, Hermes…). I don’t need another scarf, belt or whatever …just to play the stupid SA game. I got better things to do with my money and time.
Wonderful video. Makes you think about all the things we collect over the years and why? I don't drink coffee and I don't wear polish on my finger nails, but I do get a pedicure every six to eight weeks especially in the spring/summer months here in sunny and hot Phoenix, Arizona. We wear sandals a lot. I gave up heels a long time ago. Comfort is the way to go. I am just about to turn 67. I am working on spending less on clothes.
Would love to see a video on your makeup and skincare! Trying to apply minimalism to my makeup collection especially - I think it would be very interesting 😊
Quite a lot of my money goes into caring for my animals, includong horses, goats, donkeys and llamas and alpacas. So therefore no need for fancy clothes. I find good deals on carharrt and duluth trading post on secondhand sites. Also army surplus for heavy yard and barn work. No sense in doing my nails, i keep them clipped back. Hair goes up in a knot. No jewelry, it would be dangerous, especially when im usong the logsplitter or chain saw to cut stove wood. Makeup? Waste of time where i live.
In my adult life, I've gotten two professional manicures. The experience was nice both times, but I could never see myself doing it regularly. I just do my nails at home. I also keep my nails short as I can't stand how long nails feel. I have long fingers, so short nails look fine on me.
I travel so much that I just don’t have the capacity to bring all these items people splurge on with me. How do you fit 10 bags into a suitcase to fly overseas for 11 hours? You don’t. Therefore a tight curated collection of items I can bring with me to dinner, a business meeting, or a a lunch with my child are prefect. Lately I have been enjoying Hermes bags. They are built to last, fit lots of items, and are appropriate for many occasions.
I have never spent $1 on any manicure or pedicure. I do it myself but i just spent $37000 on brand new Birkin because it's impossible to get offer in store 😢
I have a iphone 8 and my co workers were making fun of it coz they have the newest phones like iphone 13 and newer. But I told them that it works. I didn't think it was a big deal. Plus i don't want to pay off a phone for a year or so
Great video as always. I wonder if you still see the worth in your handbag collection even if you don't have a day job anymore? How often do you normally wear your handbags these days, do you find enough reasons/places/occasions where you could wear them to show them off? It would be a shame to have all this collection to just sit on a shelf.
Library! Food and good health are rewards for yourself. Library branches have them. Nobody cares what others wear. Especially after covid! It's just stuff!
I don't understand the relevance of "Covid" here. We're no longer in lockdown, and most people who have jobs are back to work by now; they probably want to look presentable on the job. So you're saying we should all walk around like slobs because Covid happened? I don't agree with that at all. One can dress well without spending a fortune on clothes.
I love drinking coffee at cafes so it’ll be most challenging for me but I want to cut back on that. No designer clothing/bags as I can’t really justify spending so much $$$ on a logo. No tech updates for me too, unless my iphone 8 or other eq stops working Avoiding unnecessary spending in general.
Thank you for confirming my new year and my new me!!!❤
As someone retiring late, this is great advice! Mindless shopping is a way to waste money, time and space ❤
it's never too late, the power of compounding interest is amazing! I enjoy saving $$$ lol@@marykennedysherin3330
So happy for you xx
Books are a good one. Libraries are such an underutilized resource and vital parts of communities!
100% agree! I've found some really amazing reads (many not best sellers) just from browsing the library xx
If your library doesn't have a book you want, let them know, our library will put you first on the list to check it out once their copies arrive. 😊
Not to mention we’re already paying for them with our tax dollars!
Yes! This was my fave tip
Local library have E books you can download in your iPad. You don’t even need a kindle. all free. You can download at least 6 books at one time. You can also reserve books. All the best sellers available.

It's OK to go look or even try but if you don't need stuff leave it behind! Have fun and then go home! Lol 😊
Planning a no buy year. Expect to sell all but about 10% of my wardrobe. The keep items will be my most used, most impactful luxury items.
When we go fine dining, I remember the food we ate that we both liked and search the recipes online. I try to recreate them. So we get more than the cost of the dinner but I learned something new that would remind us of beautiful memories. One way of being frugal.

Nobody ever mentions the gas saved by not waiting in line at Starbuck for 20 minutes minimum in my area

Hello, I would love to see a video about the books that have changed your life. 💕
Hi there, I've put a list on my website xx
My replacement for souvenirs has been buying functional items that originate or are iconic to the place I am visiting. For example, we have a Tiffany store in my city but I didn't buy the necklace I wanted until I visited New York
Wonderful tip! I bought my first LV bag from Rome, it always brings back memory xx
I do visit Starbucks a few times a week and will continue doing it. My Zen time. However, I buy *nothing* else other than food and personal care items. Have saved a small fortune.... and a little bit of that savings goes to Starbucks.
I super love leather bag charms. But I don’t buy luxury ones. I either get them from Etsy or a contemporary brand. Thank you for sharing, Eileen❤
I totally agree! I have a couple that I ordered from Etsy years ago xx
There were few things I was able to stop spending on from your list and your video gave me the idea to do the same for other things. Healthy & Happy living and contentment is the key!

Who was that?
Wonderful list. I love to paint my nails- it’s calming to me and a form of self care
❤
Wonderful! Xx
Omg I'm exactly like you! I gave up the same things years ago, and I'm so better for it and so much more wealthy because of it!
❤️❤️❤️
👏🏼. Great vid. As your other subbies stated below, I gave up luxury last year except for Starbucks. It is one of my life pleasures that I daily share with my granddaughter. My favorite bag is Uniglo’s mini bag which cost a whopping $14.00 in Japan. Happy New Year!

I remember when I was doing a postgraduate degree, my course mates used to buy a coffee every 2 hours, the cost really added up so quickly xx

Anything outside of that needs to be justified. I don’t plan to buy purses, shoes, clothes like I usually do. I want to see my savings account grow.
I agree! It's always satisfying to see your saving/investment account grows xx
Great video and excellent advice and suggestions ! Thanks a lot, Eileen ❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video xx
I'm really glad you mentioned where you get your T-shirts from...it seems like a small thing but I'm always so unsure of where to go to find inexpensive items that won't look terrible, fall apart, etc.
❤️
I was buying the same makeup over and over. The same shades in nail polish, lipsticks, blush, until I realised I obviously loved what I already had.
❤️
Thanks for this video. I just found you. 😊 I never got the point of take out coffee. Coffee is such a at-home-relaxing thing for me. I could never get that from a paper cup filled with a hot beverage that costs a fortune.
❤️❤️
So agree with you on the high heels! Definitely not worth it! Great tips - thank you!
100% agree ...unnecessary stuff and do to surround yourself is just a waste of time and money 😊
❤️
Agreed on all points! ❤❤❤. Books however, remain my "weakness!"
I absolutely have no objection for that! Books can be such good investment! I’m currently reading The Lost Bookshop- it’s amazing xx
Can you please share the rest of your list? I was quite surprised about a few mentioned here and found this video very inspiring 😊
Sounds like my list Eileen. 👏🏼 👏🏼 on the nails, makeup, and accessories and Knick knacks. Simple nails and makeup is very elegant and classy. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year!
Love it!! Happy new year to you too xx
I did a lot of decluttering and downsizing laat year. And shopped far lesser than I normally would. I have zero debts and enough savings but that doesn’t mean i keep accumulating.
Thank you for the video. I’m going to read ‘Rest’ next because you mentioned it!
That is awesome!xx
I love this list and I will use some that I already don’t use. Thanks ❤
Glad it was helpful!xx
I enjoyed the video! I agree with you on all things especially doing my own manicure/pedicure and no polish and l have a iPhone 7 and l love it. 😂 Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing! xx
Gurrlll. Im with you with the high heels. I wear kitten heels or flats. I have beautiful flats. I cant do high heels anymore.
❤️❤️
I don’t allow myself to walk into luxury stores (LV, Chanel, Hermes…). I don’t need another scarf, belt or whatever …just to play the stupid SA game. I got better things to do with my money and time.
Thanks for sharing xx
Thank you for your video I truly loved it it was very to the point very simple classy and elegant❤
Thank you for sharing!! xx
Would love to see a video on your makeup and skincare! Trying to apply minimalism to my makeup collection especially - I think it would be very interesting 😊
me too!!
Yes, please me too!
Noted, thank you for the suggestion xx
Quite a lot of my money goes into caring for my animals, includong horses, goats, donkeys and llamas and alpacas. So therefore no need for fancy clothes. I find good deals on carharrt and duluth trading post on secondhand sites. Also army surplus for heavy yard and barn work. No sense in doing my nails, i keep them clipped back. Hair goes up in a knot. No jewelry, it would be dangerous, especially when im usong the logsplitter or chain saw to cut stove wood. Makeup? Waste of time where i live.
I love your lifestyle 😅
❤️❤️
I came across your channel quite by accident. I immediately loved the content you create. Great video! Greetings from Bulgaria!
❤️❤️
In my adult life, I've gotten two professional manicures. The experience was nice both times, but I could never see myself doing it regularly. I just do my nails at home. I also keep my nails short as I can't stand how long nails feel. I have long fingers, so short nails look fine on me.
Thank you for sharing xx
Very helpful my lady! 🙏🏼 I stop getting designer backpacks or bags, how many do we really use?? 🤦🏻♀️ happy new year! 🎉🎊🎉😘😘😘Sandy
Happy new year!xx
I've decided to prioritize comfort and say goodbye to uncomfortable shoes as well.
One of the best videos I've seen in a while. Happy New Year!
Happy new year!xx
I travel so much that I just don’t have the capacity to bring all these items people splurge on with me. How do you fit 10 bags into a suitcase to fly overseas for 11 hours? You don’t. Therefore a tight curated collection of items I can bring with me to dinner, a business meeting, or a a lunch with my child are prefect. Lately I have been enjoying Hermes bags. They are built to last, fit lots of items, and are appropriate for many occasions.
Thank you for sharing! I agree, when I travel, I usually only bring one or two luxury bags with me xx
I have never spent $1 on any manicure or pedicure. I do it myself but i just spent $37000 on brand new Birkin because it's impossible to get offer in store 😢
So sensible and practical ❤
You just gained a new subscriber
❤️❤️❤️
Pure genius - thanks for sharing such a great list.
Glad you enjoyed it!xx
I have a iphone 8 and my co workers were making fun of it coz they have the newest phones like iphone 13 and newer. But I told them that it works. I didn't think it was a big deal. Plus i don't want to pay off a phone for a year or so
Every single one of these were things I no longer buy either! Crazy.
Hi Eileen, good to see you again. Happy New Year 🎊🎈🎆 ❤
Happy new year!xx
Completely agree.❤❤ thank you for sharing this video with us. ❤️💖
Thanks for watching!xx
i practise this list myself as well. you’re kinda like my twin! 💕 happy new year!
Happy new year!!xx
I don’t spend money on these things already except coffee. Also, I don’t use postmates or Uber eats.
It so strong and wise that you can adopt a minimalist lifestyle
❤️❤️
Good one. Thank you Eileen.
Glad you liked it!xx
Great content! Could you please show your shoe collection? I am struggling to find good flat shoe options to wear with elegant clothing.
found this on my feed this january 1st. very very helpful ✨
Glad it was helpful!xx
Another brilliant video thanks so much. Best wishes to you & your family for 2024🎉🎉
Thank you so much and same to you xx
I love the concept of luxury minimalist , new subscriber
❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful! Thank you❤
Agree on everything!
❤️
Great video as always. I wonder if you still see the worth in your handbag collection even if you don't have a day job anymore? How often do you normally wear your handbags these days, do you find enough reasons/places/occasions where you could wear them to show them off? It would be a shame to have all this collection to just sit on a shelf.
Hope you had a great Christmas 🎄 😊
Thank you! You too! xx
@ColourfulNoir thanks, your welcome
I do my own manicure and pedicure. :)
thank you this happy new year
Same to you xx
Books i think it's okay... but try to invest in a few good quality pieces...
Love this approach! 💖
Thank you!!cx
This was so helpful 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful!xx
Thank you very much 😊
❤️
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure xx
Loved this video but she doesn't mean to stop buying luxury brands such as LV or Hermes, does she?!
My NUMBER ONE weakness are BOOKS. So, once a month, IF I have the money, I treat myself to a paperback at a used bookstore ❤
Great video as usual 👍👍👍❤👌
Thank you! xx
Your work is striking; it reminds me of a book that delved into these ideas brilliantly. "The Joy of Less: A Minimalist Living Guide" by Matthew Cove
I do all those things and much more. Mostly because I'm not yet rich and I'm too busy working or studying. 😂😂😂
I’m creating a list in my head right now. 😉 I plan on keeping more money in my pocket in 2024. 💰
❤️❤️
I love drinking coffee at cafes so it’ll be most challenging for me but I want to cut back on that.
No designer clothing/bags as I can’t really justify spending so much $$$ on a logo.
No tech updates for me too, unless my iphone 8 or other eq stops working
Avoiding unnecessary spending in general.
❤️❤️
Not eating out. I prefer friends to cook at home or me.
❤️
I feel the same about nails
I don't know if it's just me but manicure looks a bit painful to me xx
Excellent ideas!
Thank you! 😊
