    I like the idea of a full sleeve jersey. I live in an area that has a lot of sun, and the long sleeves are great protection from the sun. I will certainly look into these.

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад

      Sun protection is an underrated feature IMO. I have had too many burnt mid-bicep cuffs from the Rapha jersey. I have also started using the long sleeve summer jersey on very long days out. Just need something that will solve for the gap between jersey and mitts 😜.

    Good video - many thanks. I've used ear buds for riding, but find that wind noise makes it too difficult to hear. Anything over 25kph make it impossible. How do you find it with the Shokz Open Run?

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад +1

      This is still a problem with Shokz. But I would say it is more when descending and if conditions are windy. At 25-30km definitely still audible.

    Glad the dynaplug worked for you. What sealant do you use? I used a dynaplug on the crown of a road gp500 str tire and while it held airtight with the sealant, the seal didn't hold tight after riding for about 15 mins and it sprayed some sealant out on my bike, though the dynaplug stay put. This spray happened multiple times before I got home. Note that I didn't cut the excess tail off the dynaplug and it squished down (just like you show in the video). In any case, I think over time as you roll along, the tire deforms over the road surface and is flexed and stressed from rolling, thus tugging on the plug and at higher tire pressure (for road), it just didn't hold well. Cheers

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад

      I use GP5000s and the Continental sealant. I think there is a limit to the puncture they can fix. My buddy also suggested it was important to leave the tail on and try and squish it like gum over the hole (like in my video). I wouldn't trust it long term, but it certainly got me through my ride.

    Good video MC. Been wondering about the shokz headphones. I don't ride with anything as I want to hear cars etc.. and thought the shokz might be a good solution. Glad to hear your review. Thanks.

      Definitely recommend them. You can hear surrounding noises while they are playing and when they are paused you have a completely open ear. Unlike the AirPods where your ear is still compromised even when not playing.

      Another good alternative are the Oladance OWS Sports. They also have a proprietary charger.
      I have both these and the Shokz and they both have their own pros and cons.
      I prefer the Oldadance in terms of sound as for me they are louder (they sit in on your ear). I definitely find that traffic or wind noise mean I can’t hear much on the Shokz.
      The Shokz are more comfy and being quieter they ensure you are more aware of your surroundings.
      The other factor for me is since the Shokz sit on your cheekbones they are much more suitable to wear on groups rides as you can have your audio muted and still chat and it doesn’t look like you’ve got earphones in. With the Oladence, because they sit on your ears, it kinda looks like you’ve got earphones in which you might not want on group rides.

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад +1

      This is an accurate assessment of the Shokz. Interesting to hear the comparison with the Oladance. I have accepted that when I cannot hear the Shokz properly it's probably for the best (either while descending or when there is a lot of surrounding noise).

      Check out the Shokz Openfit headphones, the sound is far superior (more bass) and they are still open ear headphones so you can hear everything around you. They have 7 hours on a single charge and 28 with the case. I have both and dont use the openrun anymore at all.

    • @ModerateCyclist

  • @dillroastington

    The open run headphones are a game changer. Super water resistant, charge lasts a long time, and you can still hear really well unless you really crank the volume. The cable is the only downside. Love mine thoigh.

      @@ModerateCyclist, I have no problem with using headphones while on a solo ride, however in a group ride I suggest you will not be well received by your fellow cyclists. I’ve been in groups as a guest where using any sort of headphones being in ear or external is a decided no no. People just do not feel comfortable if they sense there is any distraction to your attention to what’s going on around them. Also I don’t understand why bidon manufacturers use the colour black. Surely the idea should be to keep your water/electrolyte drink as cool as possible as you ride in the sunshine

  • @carsonau116
    @carsonau116 Месяц назад +2

    over a number of videos it appears that you really believe in sodium/electrolyte supplementation on a ride in relation to performance or cramping - but that topic is quite controversial in itself. There are a number of studies showing no performance benefit, and also other studies showing no relation to electrolyte intake to cramping.

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад +3

      I am no expert here. In my limited reading sodium compliments hydration e.g. it helps the body hydrate as opposed to just flushing through water. As I understand sweat is highly personal, we all sweat at different rates and volumes of sodium. For me I find that supplementing sodium helps me with recovery (tracked with Whoop). So I guess what I am saying is, it has a fairly indirect relationship with performance (recover better, train harder, perform better). But again, no expert. Just my own experience.

    Why did you pull out the dart plug? I left mine in for 5 months. It could have lasted another 5 months, but I had to change the tyre

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад

      My buddy talking me into changing the tyre. It felt like the right thing to do, but you are right it probably would have held longer term. With that decided, I wanted to see how firm it really was in the tyre.

      Have you ever used internal tubeless tyre patches, these are used after a dart or bacon strip has been removed once you get home? Similar to what they do with car tyres, thus saving from having to replace the tyre. 👍🏻

    I use the camelbak podium bottles 600 and 700 ml, super easy to use as you’re not pulling and pushing a valve to get a drink.

    • @ModerateCyclist
      @ModerateCyclist  Месяц назад +2

      I have used those bottles in the past. I quite like them, great quality. But my main criticism is the valve system. It is very complex and such hard to clean.

    • @jamesrowe4861
      @jamesrowe4861 Месяц назад +1

      Fair point, the newer ones depending on how long ago you tried them are relatively easy to disassemble to clean. We use them on 250 km plus gravel rides and when full of sugary carb mix combined with mud and dust, they couldn’t get much dirtier. 👍🏻

    • @veganpotterthevegan

      I tried a 1l bottle, I find them so big and cumbersome, and it makes me worry about my carbon cages. I found the 750ml a good compromise. Although for a 207 mile race you are going to want as big as possible. What race is it?

      It is definitely a compromise on sound quality. On the home trainer I choose AirPods every time. But the added awareness on the road is valuable to me. 10h battery life on the Shokz is massive, especially compared to AirPods.
