    If David Ramsey right about one thing; he is right about this: GET OUT OF DEBT ANY LEGAL WAY YOU CAN.

      David essentially says that you should not get into debt in the first place (apart from a 15 year mortgage). And no, no student debt or car debt either. That's a hard pill to swallow for the American "Keeping up with the Jones" family. The snowflakes coming out of high school haven't figured that out either as yet. The "I need to have a new car to drive to College because I deserve it when I graduate from high school" are as disillusioned as ever. This week my Fall semester started (I work in academia) and boy, do I see fancy cars on the parking lot. And that's not the faculty parking lot I am talking about...

    People often attempt to change things outside themselves (such as their income or business) without changing what’s going on inside.
    That approach never works. To re-make your life, you must build a new self-image. As soon as you start to alter the image, everything outside will begin to change. Happy Monday!

    "Expectations is where resentment grows", I heard that recently and liked it. Currently reading the book Boundaries by Henry Cloud, it has so many aspects of changing expectations, seeing the world from another perspective that it is amazing. Much like Rabi Lapin's book thou Shall prosper. To see the world through these different lenses has brought such peace into my life, that is how I fixed my life - mind you it is a work in progress. Hope to keep growing in knowledge and God's ways

    This caller really needs to talk to their tax advisor before taking Ramsey's "I'd sell it today" advice. Dave shoots from the hip and sometimes gives advice that costs the caller thousands in unnecessary taxes. Was the stock award a restricted stock award (RSA), restricted stock unit (RSU), nonqualified stock option (NQSO), or incentive stock option (ISO). There are tax nuances associated with each that the caller needs to be aware of before they decide to sell. Also, is there a vesting period associated with this stock? If so, they may not be able to sell until a certain period of time has elapsed.

    I wouldn't sell stock that was gifted. In the long term it's better to have the stock. Just save money/cut expenses to pay off a car. Honestly paying off a low interest car loan early doesn't make a ton of sense because the car is a depreciating asset. If you put $30k to pay off a car loan that only costs $2k to finance it really you're only saving $2k. But that $30k is immediately worth less as soon as you throw it all into a car.

  • @sagatuppercut2960
    @sagatuppercut2960 2 года назад

    Personally, I don't' see the problem with keeping the stocks if they can afford the car Ye. She could possibly have a 401(k) (matching contribution) deal with the company. In my view a long term 401(k) plan---with 200 free shares---is more valuable to me than a car loan that can possibly be paid off in a few years. Yes I know: pay off loans ASAP, however: getting 200 free shares of stock is significant. I'd want to hold onto that for many years---especially if it's part of a tax-deferred retirement plan.
