  • One single tip led to the recovery of $50 million in stolen goods. Five million dollars worth of merchandise was recovered on Thursday alone.
It was the result of a year long investigation by the California Highway Patrol that ended with more than 40 people in custody, all believed to be part of an organized retail theft ring.
We are talking about entire truckloads full of your purchases. So if your Amazon order never arrived, or maybe you blamed the Post Office, it may have actually been a sophisticated criminal operation.
It was given the code name, Operation Overloaded.

Did you not see the video? They explained it pretty well actually.
Where this happened appears to be a very busy retail transport corridor with hundreds or thousands of trucks rolling through every day. The ring was said to be stealing 5-7 trucks per week and sometimes it would be days before the loss was even recognized.
And apparently did it without using strong arm tactics. Instead they would take a truck from a less than secure yard at a processing hub and move it to another location where they unloaded the truck into smaller loads and moved it on to their own distribution centers.

Actually postal workers steal items too. I sell on eBay and other places and once when I was on a rush I decided to pull over when I saw a postal worker getting off his truck. I handed him the item and off course it was never shipped. After hundreds of products, I have shipped this was the one that never went into the system. Luckily, I had a duplicate item and was able to ship a replacement. My purchase price for each of this item was about $30.

I've had that happen too, only it was an item I bought. The seller told me she took it to the post office but left it on the counter, and walked out without a receipt. I sell items as well, and most of the time, I don't have to think about a stolen package, but now I always get that receipt.

They came and arrested them. I swear some thieves are extremely dumb and desperate.

This is in no way surprising to me. I once had a roommate who turned out to be a dangerous criminal. I knew her from work, and we had never had a disagreement. Once she was in my home, and added to the lease, hell broke loose. Her boyfriend began hiding many pounds of cannabis (at the time, it was a really big deal, and super illegal) and cocaine in my home. We had agreed that an person staying more than 3 nights was a resident, and should pay a full month’s rent. Nope.
After she beat me in my own bed, and the Sherrif’s office did very little, I called Immigration. Even Immigration did not care about her shoplifting ring. She took orders from people, and filled them. Honestly, I had no idea. None. I knew she smoked pot; I knew she was not a fan of police-but who is? I had no idea. Also, Immigration treated me like I was the threat. They did not believe me.
