    I had way to much Starbucks coffee this morning, which sent me into a panic attack. I did the breathing exercise for the 10 minutes and it calmed me down. Thank you.

    Help Soothe panic with this breathing exercise (instructions on using the video to ensure you are not chest breathing, but belly breathing)
    • Sit or stand comfortably with your back straight. Put one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach.
    • Take a slow breath in through your nose, counting to four. The hand on your stomach should rise. The hand on your chest should move very little.
    • Hold your breath for a count of seven.
    • Exhale through your mouth to a count of eight, pushing out as much air as you can while contracting your abdominal muscles. The hand on your stomach should move in as you exhale, but your other hand should move very little.
    • Inhale again, repeating the cycle until you feel relaxed and centered.

    This video doesn't explain it thoroughly, but the real method is to inhale through your nose, hold, then exhale through the mouth.
    That way you slowly exhale without feeling too dizzy or lightheaded. If you try it that way you will feel results. Also, like everything it takes practice to get better and see more results.

    I needed this after starting to go back to the gym, tonight. I get panic attacks when my heart rate goes up and then the panic just makes it go up even more. This video helped regulate myself and get me back grounded. Anyone else ever get what I just described during/after a workout? Any tips on how to control this??

    • @sarahgosselin6587
      @sarahgosselin6587 3 года назад +1

      Yes! It’s health anxiety. Try the following steps, it helped me a lot and was teached to me by a health anxiety coach and reduced my anxiety before working out by at least 80% :
      1- mental movie-close my eyes and imagine myself working out and doing the gestures while smiling and having a wonderful and enjoyable workout.
      2-once at the gym look around to notice everything that feel safe to me or enjoyable
      3-50 to 70% of my normal speed. Slow down my speed. Speed dictate weather my anxiety see something threatening or safe.

      Check out Andrew Weil video on the 4-7-8 method. It explains the technique in detail. I would think you could adjust the numbers if you are not comfortable with 4-7-8. It’s ok to start with lower numbers and build up over time.

      I can't imagine doing this for 10 minutes! If you're starting out you should only do it for 4 breath cycles 2-3 times per day, after a few weeks you can up it to 8 breath cycles, but never more than 8 at one time, which would take about 2-1/2 minutes or so. Also, you should inhale through your nose, breathing from your belly (not your chest) and exhale through your mouth (purse your lips a little to make a whooshing sound and exhale completely). And to do it totally proper the tip of your tongue should be touching the roof of your mouth just behind your top front teeth and should not move throughout your breathing.
