Yes. People are born more talented than others.

I was a high level swimmer. All American my senior year. I worked my ass off. In swimming you either have it, or you don't. I know of kids on my team that trained year round and I could jump in and smoke them. What opened my eyes was going to college and seeing guys who could smoke me and not train as hard. If I put in 10 years of training....I would still never touch Phelps or come close. And he could jump in with drag suits suits on and smoke me.

There is an incredible amount of room for growth with humans. We are capable of so much more than most humans will ever achieve. I try to better my athletic talents all the time, especially on my dirt bike. HOWEVER, genetics cannot be discounted. So much of it is nurture, but nature gives some a leg up. For those of us who are just seeking to become better riders, not compete at the highest level, we can all get better with training and discipline.

There are lots of people with natural talant. I’ve had buddies who never rode a bike or dirt bike before go ride with me and they immediately pick it up and are able to go fast and hit jumps on day one .. I also have buddies who rode 2-3 times a week for years and are still slow and not great at jumping. I’m sure with the right coaching they could be faster and more well rounded and that’s where the hard work builds/creates talent

There is an inherent fact that we are all gifted in different ways. Hard work and effort alone will never I over ride hard work and effort combined with talent. For example I used to regularly beat people who busted their ass training all while I smoked never drank water and never rode my bike. They thought I trained and I send my bike with people to the other side of the state between races and still won. It take luck, passion, hard work and talent to get there and takes single minded dedication to stay at the top

Chase comes home with his second championship in 2024 as the bike is now on point and he's built like a juggernaut , he's a beast.

I think a lot of people like to believe through hard work or right up bringing that you can become anything including a pro athlete. It's not a bad mentality and it can take you to a certain point but not really true. Everyone is different physically and mentally with predispositions towards being good at certain things. It's like not everyone can be a fighter pilot or a motocross superstar because there is some person out there that was born for it and pursued it. They just have a predisposition and wiring in place for it. It's like if you have ever coached kids sports. Some pick it up instantly and excel and some struggle. The strugglers can go far from hard work but the naturally talented hard workers with desire will rise to the top. It's not a bad mentality to have as hard work pays off but there are limits.

I agree with Aja. People may be born with physical attributes like height however talent is learned. A book that speaks to this subject is Peak By Anders Ericsson and Robert Pool. This is especially interesting when it come to siblings.

I completely disagree. Jett has other worldly hand/eye coordination and the ability to reenergize while performing at a high level.

I agree, and also I’d throw in there that his frame is damn near perfect for having perfect technique for this sport. He’s tall and long enough to get high level leverage in the areas he needs too, but he’s not so tall to make himself top heavy on the bike either and have shitty balance.
I’m not taking away anything from Jett because I know he’s also worked ass off, but all these things are ingredients in the recipe for why he’s so good. Acting like he solely just “worked harder” than everybody is pretty silly.

as a kid i outworked everyone in baseball to become mediocre. because i had little talent. this is difficult for pro athletes to understand.

There is also the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation for discovering natural aptitudes that are with us from birth. Well worth the time.

This is completely un true. Ive known people in the boxing gym completley dedicate their life to it get beaten easily by someone that smokes drinks and doesnt care atall about It because hes natutally way more naturally gifted and it comes easy to him

    Hahahahhaha
Some people are very talented naturally.
I got a stack of kids... everyone is different. My youngest son plays video games and screws off and is a natural athlete. Middle son tries super hard and just shakes his at his little brother. How? Is his question.
Talent only takes ya so far though.
Larry Bird is a great example of hard work.

You are wrong.Jet was born with more aptitude for dirt bike riding. The evidence is overwhelming - there are so many good racers who are the oldest child. It also happens in all other sports. You cant explain that away with one example
    Related to this topic:
The discovery of epigentics a few years back puts a whole new slant on genetically inherited traits. I wish people were doing more research into this!
It's looking your choices in life affect the NEXT FEW GENERATIONS.
You are passing on to your kids much more than what you/society teaches them. They're also inheriting yours and your immediate ancestors strengths and weaknesses.
TL/DR dont be a dick.Try to break bad habits that run in your family.Emphasize the good traits. It's not all on you (because succeeding generation play their part) but you can make a big difference!

There is definitely a difference between athletic/training vs talent/genetics. You can always train and become athletic and fit but talent can definitely create one off phenomenal athletes with less work than say someone without the genetic advantages. That’s not to say the less talented can’t out work and become better than the talented.
