    Been using Ramshot Hunter for almost 2 years in North Carolina and haven’t had any issues with over pressure in my 6.5 creedmoor even in 90+ degree temperatures. Any where from 120 - 143 grain projectiles. Cheap and easy to find.

    I have mainly used this powder in the .243 with 105gr bullets. I don't know what velocity I was getting but I shot a 588 at 600 yards in my first F-Class match with the rifle (Savage action, McGowan 26" 1-8 barrel, B&C medallist, Harris bipod). Love Hunter. I should mention that I loaded for that match on a progressive press, checking charges at the first, 30th, and last load. Same throughout.

      @@guyminer3168phenomenal cartridge. I’m a big fan of the 6.5 mm’s also. My handloads in 270 were 130 grain bullets with H4831 and RL22. Those loads hit 3150 and 3175 fps. Heck the original load in 1925 for a 270 was 130 grain bullet at 3140 fps before it was watered down. I do not shoot game past 350-400 yards at those ranges the 6.5’s offer zero advantage over the 270 Winchester in my opinion.

    Very accurate in my 30-06. 2770 with a 180 Sierra pro hunter but I’ve got a 22” barrel. If you guys do temp testing that would be neat. I worked up my load at ~70 degrees. I threw some rounds in the freezer and retested and got 2720 ft/sec. so 50 ft/sec loss from 70 to “-3” if you believe my freezer’s thermometer.

    I've used it in .270 and .280 AI. Got good results with 140gn bullets in my .270, but yes, consider it temp sensitive. I think all powders are, just some a little more than others. Like the man said, I work up loads in the temperatures I'm usually hunting in. Then one unseasonably warm spring day I was shooting the .270 and got noticeably harder recoil and extractor marks on my brass, so yeah, keep this in mind if you use it.
    In my .280AI I was trying to get some 160gn (medium weight for the cartridge) Federal TBTs to shoot and kind of on a whim tried Hunter. Groups were about .65 and SDs were low too.
    Anyway, it's useful stuff. Going to try it with some heavier bullets this winter.

    Never bought any Ramshot powders yet, haven't found a need to try them, and with the temp sensitivity, no big desire to run them. There are other powders out there that deliver what I want, I just find Hodgdon and Alliant and Accurate to be more versatile for me, and I don't worry about the temp sensitivity with the ones I'm using. If I try any other newer powders, it'll be TS15.5, N555, maybe some Staball6.5. At present I'm well stocked on many different powders, I have at least 3 brands or types for each cartridge. Some can do double or triple duty on what I own for cartridges, and do it well, from the 218Bee to a 450-400NE.

    I am a couple of years away from drawing my next moose tag but I already have a load worked up for my Savage 111 .30-06 (22" barrel). 59 gr of Ramshot Hunter behind a Hornady 180gr Interlock soft point (#3070) at an overall length of 3.225". Brass is PPU and the primer is a Federal 210. Gordon's Reloading Tool says the load should be doing around 2760fps in a 22" barrel. The drop at 300yards with a 100yard zero indicates GRT is pretty close in it's estimate (no chronograph to verify).

    I have not used Hunter, but I have used LRT and have excellent results in my 28 Nosler. Some of the lowest ES and SD results in a specific temperature range.
    So, out of my logbook on 6/5/22:
    LRT 85.7gn
    CCI 250 primer (sorted by weight) seated .0065"
    Shoulder bump .002"
    Hornady 190gn ATip
    .607" shoulder datum to Ogive, Hornady brass.
    77 degrees F, 29.1 inHG, 33% Humidity.
    In the last 4 shot group...
    N=4
    Sum =11931
    Mean =2982.75
    ES=7
    SD=2.586
    0.3 MOA
    I do not know if you have played with LRT, but I would say it works darn good. N570 is my preferred powder. During the shortage, I was able to get LRT and was pleasantly surprised!

    @10:54 You’d do well to pause the video and read Ramshot’s answer to temperature insensitivity. They list testing at -40f and 125f with a 3%-5% deviation. Thats a heck of a spread for only 3-5%. Sure, 5% is a lot. But that’s at 165f apart! Temperature insensitivity, like Ramshot mentions, is exploited for marketing purposes. If you are shooting 400 yards and experience a 2% drop in fps (let’s assume a 80f temp spread vs 165f, lol), how much difference is that going to make on your shot? For the 178gn ELD-X starting at 2780fps, 2% less fps drops 1” more and has .4” more wind drift with a 10mph crosswind. Even at 600 yards you’re talking 3.6” more drop and .8” more drift.

    All right, so I'm in Arizona. And I live in the valley. And typically when we start sighting in rifles it's still in triple digits here in the valley. And once we get up into the mountains depending on the time of day it could be 50° could be 75° could be 90° Fahrenheit. Would you recommend loading light on powder in order to be safe?

    • @guyminer3168
      @guyminer3168 11 месяцев назад +1

      If a load is safe in your rifle in the high temps, then it should be safe at the lower temps too. The point of impact might shift a bit. It would be wise to check your rifle's point of impact at the temp and altitude you'll be hunting.

  • @vietadvisor6781
    @vietadvisor6781 11 месяцев назад +1

    Novice loader - is there a data base listing what calibers you can load for a specific power, example what all calibers can I load LT-30. It mentions a couple on the can but where can I find what other calibers it will work in? Hate to spend $50 and have it sit for years

    • @guyminer3168
      @guyminer3168 11 месяцев назад +1

      Accurate suggests 30 BR, 6.5 Grendel and 222 Remington for the LT-30 powder, and generalizes that it works well in smaller capacity rifle cartridge cases. Most powders have a description by the manufacturer or the distributor re which cartridges should work well.

    • @vietadvisor6781
      @vietadvisor6781 11 месяцев назад

      I know what that can says but it and most other cans only list 1 or 2 calibers (take Varget for example), it will load in about 20 different rifles but the can doesn't say so

    • @babyhuey6342
      @babyhuey6342 7 месяцев назад

      Hodgdon’s reloading data site lets you filter loads by powder. Alliant’s site shows you several loads for each of their powders. But you should be picking a caliber/usage and looking for loads based on that. Picking a powder and searching for ways to use it is coming at it backwards. And frankly, if having one pound of powder sitting around for a while is a meaningful cost to you, reloading might not be the best hobby for you.

    How would this go on a .35 Whelen?

    • @guyminer3168
      @guyminer3168 11 месяцев назад +1

      I'd think it might be have a bit too slow of a burn rate for good results with the 35 Whelen. Faster burning "Big Game" might do better. I haven't seen data for either with the Whelen though.

      It's generally considered to have too slow of a burn rate to be a good choice for the 308 Winchester. If you want to use a Ramshot powder, TAC is a great choice for the 308 Win.
