Artie is just the most wonderful character for this kind of show, completely ruthless and goal driven to the point of near insanity. His facial expressions are some of the funniest things I've ever seen, they don't and shouldn't match the situation but they so do. No matter how nuts Artie is, you know he's the guy who's going to get the job done.
I read that Garry Shandling told Rip Torn to conjure Artie as if Ruben Kincaid had an anger problem - nailed it!! One of the best characters and actors in TV history, no question.
Unbelievable as a 17 year old kid, I watched this show with my dad. This became one of mine favorite shows, but it was not due to Gary Shandling. No, the rough speaking and funny as hell Rip Torn. I'll miss you. Thank you for the memories.
That last bit blasting the sidekick was fucking epic. His quick wit, perfect timing and relaxed delivery were as smooth silk. Total pro, he was a comic genius. He will be missed greatly. Rip.. literally.
The Larry Sanders show was laser sharp and passed over the heads of the great unwashed, arguably the best tv comedy ever. Artie should run the United Nations.
Pure genius, and perhaps affirmation that you're never too far from the edge once you cross that line. The brilliance of this show was that it wasn't just brilliantly funny, it also evoked pathos and poignancy. That Tambor's performance eclipsed Shandling is impressive enough, but that Torn topped them both is amazing. Nothing on TV has come close since.
Greatest show I've ever seen. Tambor, Shandling and especially Rip Torn are stunning. The Hope Diamond, the Rolls Royce Corniche, the Mt. Everest of comedy/satire.
Gutted. Just read the news. Had to happen sometime. Well this is a great reminder of one of the best comedy characters on television. I hope younger people discover this show. They're in for a treat, a very profanity laden treat. RIP Rip.
I remember this show and scenes from it but I dont remember watching it. Its weird. Great actor though. lol I like how he saved the best for last in this comp.
Stupid, I know, but one of my favorite moments in the entire run of this show is at 3:29, Larry pushing a 3 foot putt at least a foot wide. That kills me to this day.
EPIC...should be viewing for all tv actors to realize they will never achieve this level of greatness...but try...always try! Truly the best written lines ever...EVER! Every Oscar winner must bow to Rip!
Rip Torn! One of a kind. This role suited him soooo well, and he NAILED IT !! The Larry Sanders show was put together like nothing else, past, present, and more than likely...future. Of course toss in the amazing talent of Jeffery Tambor, as well as Gary Shandling. Gut busting laughs...GUT BUSTING I say! Thanks for the compilation. Very very funny!
Rip was very underrated as an actor in any of his roles. But I am sure I am not alone when viewers would see RIP on screen in any role a smile would instantly come to their face.
Did anyone happen to catch or see Rip Torn in a episode of the UNTOUCHABLES TV series? He was Philadelphia Phil, a hitman from Philadelphia. LOL , he was so young you won’t recognize him, at least I didn’t until the Intro.
it annoys me that this show is so underrated, tried to show it to mates of mine and they didn't even watch 5 minutes of it. probably the greatest TV show of all time with three of the greatest comedy performances ever and a special mention to Jeffrey Tambor, a fucking genius
2:10 In the 90's Garry Shandling made fun of the idea of having karaoke on a talk show. and now in 2017 James Corden has made a career out of it. Either people have gotten stupider or Hank Kingsley was ahead of his time
"the complex with loaded with fellow divorce victims, so whenever you get the urge to piss all over your ex..everybody joins in" ROFL!!! That's gotta be one of the best forms of dialog I've heard in comedy ever!
CLASSIC now indeed !! 2020 ! This was the last of the good days , Rip was AWESOME as was the whole cast ! I am 57 in 65 days.....man it went by too fast ! Larry Sanders Show was one of HBO's BEST EVER !
I was thinking to myself the best Artie isn't even here. then 9:55 popped up. saved the best for last, did you buddy? kudos to the poster. and ARTIE IS KING ARTIE IS KING ARTIE IS KING.
Pitching locations to take the show on the road, obvious Larry isn't listening, Artie pulls out the line "Or we could try Somalia, or Jupiter, or up my ass?!" We all need an Artie in our lives.
R.I.P., Rip Torn. No one made cursing so goddamn poetic.
The Larry Sanders Show is one of the greatest shows of all time and grossly underrated!
It was highly acclaimed by critics in the 90s and ran for six seasons. Try again.
Artie, Larry, and Hank were like brothers. They loved each other and hated each other at the same time.
We look like nuts ta youu?!
And you can believe this’s how an old school Hollywood director would be like.
RIP Rip. He was a living legend and a true artist. A proper actor. Artie stands the test of time - never fails to make me roar with laughter.
I read that Garry Shandling told Rip Torn to conjure Artie as if Ruben Kincaid had an anger problem - nailed it!! One of the best characters and actors in TV history, no question.
One of the greatest characters on TV, ever.
My god. What an absolute presence this man had. I don't know if he ever won an Emmy for this but if he didn't it's a crime against humanity
He did indeed win an Emmy!
We should have listened to Gary and noticed the warning signs about Lori Laughlin.
Brilliant !!
I love it
oh shit!
The greatest character in the greatest comedy. This show will never be equalled. You brought endless joy along with Garry and Jeffrey. R.I.P. Sir
- How are your FLAKES?
- Flakes are good.
- I trust they're still CRISP-y in the milk?
Unbelievable as a 17 year old kid, I watched this show with my dad. This became one of mine favorite shows, but it was not due to Gary Shandling. No, the rough speaking and funny as hell Rip Torn. I'll miss you. Thank you for the memories.
That last bit blasting the sidekick was fucking epic. His quick wit, perfect timing and relaxed delivery were as smooth silk. Total pro, he was a comic genius. He will be missed greatly. Rip.. literally.
"Hank's his own man.....sit down Hank"
"Profanity Beverly... I love it!"
How can anyone keep a straight face acting with Hank Kingsley and Rip Torn? They are SO TALENTED and HILARIOUS.
Just...simply...a remarkable actor. Those days are gone ladies and gentlemen.
The Larry Sanders show was laser sharp and passed over the heads of the great unwashed, arguably the best tv comedy ever. Artie should run the United Nations.
One of the best shows ever.
I love the 180 with Carvey. "I apologize sir."
OMG I had forgotten how great Artie was.LMAO .Those were great days when the world made sense...remember?
Greatest show I've ever seen. Tambor, Shandling and especially Rip Torn are stunning. The Hope Diamond, the Rolls Royce Corniche, the Mt. Everest of comedy/satire.
Rest in Peace. Thank you for the laughter.
Larry and Artie reunited
#Godspeed, Garry and Rip
Rip Torn was absolutely brilliant in this role
Amazing stuff. None of this work looks dated. What a great cast. They really understood human foibles and insecurity.
i will still love you tomorrow. RIP Artie
I never had HBO when this show was on, and just watched On Demand during quarantine. Damn, this show was so good from top to bottom. Arrie rocked!
He was awesome as Artie!
In an interview, Gary Shandling said that his goal was to create the best TV show ever made. I'm pretty sure they succeeded.
Too bad the general public didn't respond as well. Regular people are idiots who prefer Family Guy
Pretty sure? They nailed it.
It's not the best without drunk, angry Artie demanding that Larry drink a Salty Dog.
Stupid, I know, but one of my favorite moments in the entire run of this show is at 3:29, Larry pushing a 3 foot putt at least a foot wide. That kills me to this day.
Yeah I’m doing a first watch and this absolutely killed my. It’s a wonderful tiny joke. Brilliant writing and idea lol.
Best show, best character ever... Rip Torn you're my Hero!
Artie's part is what made that show great.
"Hank's his own man, does whatever he wants...
Sit down there Hank!"
I first fell upon this gem of a comedy when bbc2 in UK aired it at 11:30 at night many years back . Thanks for the upload fsp .still makes me laugh .
Yep, same here, Friday nights back in the 90's. Loved this show.
“Up next : Dream On”
EPIC...should be viewing for all tv actors to realize they will never achieve this level of greatness...but try...always try!
The great Rip Torn in his signature role. Awesome.
RIP TORN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best show since Bilko.
The dinner party scene when jeannie locked the bedroom door and Artie drunkenly appeals to her before busting the door.
Funniest favorite moment.
Unbelievable energy. RIP
"underground railroad of perverts"
Now known as Discord
Rip was very underrated as an actor in any of his roles. But I am sure I am not alone when viewers would see RIP on screen in any role a smile would instantly come to their face.
He made "Freddy Got Fingered" watchable, at least for the scenes he was in.
"...for me it's a perq. Kicking ass in the morning is better than cappucino." Artie is the MAN!
migawd I just loved Artie - I wish we could all have one
R.I.P. Garry Shandling
I wish I was more like Artie
Become more like him then
I came here just minutes after hearing the sad news.
I wish Arthur was my life coach.
"You're mind amazes me."
"I'm just now comfortable with it myself."
I love these Artie-isms
Did anyone happen to catch or see Rip Torn in a episode of the UNTOUCHABLES TV series?
He was Philadelphia Phil, a hitman from Philadelphia. LOL , he was so young you won’t recognize him, at least I didn’t until the Intro.
Great show RIP Garry.
Everyone needs an Artie in their lives.
Rest in peace Rip Torn!
"You know you told me this story before and you took the money." Lmao
That may be
We all need more Artie's in our lives and less Hank's
I really feel for Artie when he's trying to get Larry to make a decision that a normal human being should be able to make.
"Good comeback", says Artie. Lol.
it annoys me that this show is so underrated, tried to show it to mates of mine and they didn't even watch 5 minutes of it. probably the greatest TV show of all time with three of the greatest comedy performances ever and a special mention to Jeffrey Tambor, a fucking genius
The first time I saw that last clip I had to be carried out on a stretcher. And the next few times.
This show is still the best! RIP Garry
2:10 In the 90's Garry Shandling made fun of the idea of having karaoke on a talk show. and now in 2017 James Corden has made a career out of it. Either people have gotten stupider or Hank Kingsley was ahead of his time
love the scene that starts @ 1:55.
everyone should try to be a little bit of Artie every day.
RIP, HE WAS SO GOOD
the greatest❤
I am now 56 and LOVED this HBO classic !!! LMFAO ! " Hey now ! "
"the complex with loaded with fellow divorce victims, so whenever you get the urge to piss all over your ex..everybody joins in"
ROFL!!!
I was thinking to myself the best Artie isn't even here. then 9:55 popped up. saved the best for last, did you buddy? kudos to the poster. and ARTIE IS KING ARTIE IS KING ARTIE IS KING.
greatest comedy show ever, beats sienfeld and curb
i want a father like Artie
Artie had the filthiest mouth in history and I loved every minute of it!
Artie after a few too many Salty Dogs -- gotta love it!
Artie is the ultimate Realist.
The greatest show.
Artie is king, I'll second that.
Well done fsp123 - great clips.
Torn's the GOAT.
"Good comeback!"
Arti was the best thing in the show IMO!
If you like Rip Torn and have never seen Defending Your Life... what are you waiting for?
in every man there's a little boy and that little boy wants Artie for his dad
%10 of those men want him for their daddy
Between this and FGF, Rip Torn basically embodies my father. I first saw it and was in floods of tears
I love Rip Torn.
Artie reminds me of my old sales manager, Richard, at a company called Coast Aluminum Products....he was a kick in the pants.
What a voice!
The genius, Rip Torn
"Good comeback" lol thanks for posting the funny
Formidable
Great show
Arte is King Queen Duke Earl and Pawn not to mention Joker❤️✅😎✌️👍r in peace come back soon
Pitching locations to take the show on the road, obvious Larry isn't listening, Artie pulls out the line "Or we could try Somalia, or Jupiter, or up my ass?!" We all need an Artie in our lives.
And when he tells his wife “First go from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, then end in my favorite town Idontgiveadamn.”
Open letter to Mr. Shandling.
Dear Garry,
When is your next sitcom going to be on television?
Please make it soon,
Best,
Jon
RIP RIP!
So underrated
The writing is great, but Rip just kills it.
8:47 "You know, Lori Loughlin took my money" wow that's topical
Jesus, never hit me til now how much Rip Town and Brian Cox look and sound alike!
Rip could have easily played Logan in Succession.
"be there or be square!"
"I can do both"
