Exactly.. you learn nothing. It’s about how big a terrain they can make, how many products donated and etc. I’m going back to print as I find it much more informative with detailed photos and instructions.. YT is ruining more than just the hobby.. go pick up some modeling books as they’ve become cheaper and not “but wait, there’s more” type nonsense.

2:38 I really agree with this point. I think that's why I sometimes enjoy painting older models from the 80s, 90s or early 2000s, more than modern sculpts. While the modern ones look impressive when done, they tend to be a bit of an uphill struggle to complete sometimes due to their abundance of details.

Getting out of one's comfort zone is important to growth, but I think it's also important to remember to kick back and just enjoy the process at the level you're at, wherever that is at the moment. Growth is great, and something we all strive for, but it's so important to remember to just relax and feed our passion a bit without putting additional pressure on ourselves. Would love to see more of these as you walk through your process without trying to blow our minds *every* time. Cheers from a newbie inspired by your work!

  • @TeaIngyer
    @TeaIngyer 2 года назад +4

Honestly I think the simplicity of this video idea and project made it more enjoyable than your recent average. Hooked me from start to end, just getting to watch you take a really cool sculpt, and give it a nice, character filled paint job.
Interesting and punchy video concepts are cool, but there's something relaxing about a video where it's just someone hobbying.
I think my favorite part was the fact you chose a sculpt that's incredibly detailed, and has an awesome concept / visual storytelling, but isn't cluttered visually. GW models are cool, but as you point out they're often cluttered. With this bust every single element is very carefully chosen to give it character, but there's no 'junk', nothing that's just there to look cool with no function.
I'd love to see you paint more models like this, or your custom Vampire mini that you commissioned, in this more relaxed style of video.
    Peaceful hobby vibes 10/10
    Paintjob 10/10
    Model choice 10/10
I hope you make more content like this in future.

When I drill holes for mounting or pinning, I drill the hole bigger than the thing going into it. This gives me some wiggle room if I don't get the hole in the right place. I fill the gap with epoxy putty or CA glue. This also lets me square up the figure on the plinth if necessary, and I can clean it up when I paint the plinth.

I love this guy. I think the hat is less of like light or color, but it's more like a powder in his hat that reflects his chef career, like flour or sugar. Even before he was painted I could instantly imagine what this guy was like, and that speaks volumes to creating a miniature. I like the blood, too. Personally I would've gone without the collar if I designed this guy, but the addition of blood there looks great, like this guy has somehow bled before, but it's the only time ANYONE will ever see him bleed. You did a great job not making the sci-fi inspiration too obvious, as well. When I clicked on the video, I didn't expect it to be one and now that I'm at the end, I can still hold that thought in my head that he would fit within like the 1800's if you just changed that goo from green to red. He's like a background character you can imagine in a pre-20th century fantasy novel.

The vibe I generally get from YT hobby channels that paint 40k stuff, is it’s a grind. Takes ages to prep a bunch of models, prime, paint, weather, base it, then do it again with the next bunch of models in a conveyer belt style fashion.

Awesome video mate.. I honestly don’t feel like you need an “Angle” when making a video.. it was good to just watch/listen along to what someone else was doing and their thought processes whilst I was hobbying myself. Definitely picked up a few tricks that I’ll implement in my own models and despite the model subject being something I personally don’t have any draw towards, I still found the video thoroughly engaging.
Glad to see you’re back to the weekly vids mate 👌🏼

This is a great format! Its great you slowed down and realized that every vid doesnt have to be a Holy revelation! Large patches of flesh are the absolute most intimidating thing to me in painting minis.

I loved just watching you paint a nice model and talk about it. Speed paints are popular and all, but I love just watching you narrate your process. It's beautiful, calming and deeply inspiring

Oh my lawd the way you showed the paints and ratios on the palette was just *cheffs kiss*.
I would watch a whole series of these for sure - all the little details and shots are so relaxing. It's like you managed to distill the enjoyment (and some of the frustrations) of painting a mini into one, neat little vid.
    Cheers!

This "just painting" video is excellent. I learn so much from you talking through your process, and this experimenting with a non-GW mini is fun. Thanks for this.

I find I can learn much more from these videos because I can understand the process along with your explanation which informs me to make better decisions than someone going "paint skin good, wet blend because shadow"

I'm so inured to the clickbait and fakeout titles of youtube, it took me nearly the whole video to realize that this was literally just a painting video. Excellent stuff.

not gonna lie, this is quite nice to watch. It's really nice seeing people just paint with some nice editing, a couple of jokes, and some good tips just to show how to paint. I like this

Personally, I genuinely prefer this style of video. Explaining the techniques used but just relaxing and painting as... You know, a hobby.

Found this mini whilst walking around at the world model expo in the Netherlands last weekend. So I wanted to buy this, and mentioned to the seller that I'd seen you paint it on YT; so he inquired if I'd also seen the doctor vid-the mini was right next to the chef. I hadn't, but het offered me both mini's at a discount that I just could not refuse! And the price was already lower than the website one. So I hope this demonstrates to the mini makers that sponsoring works. And thank you for getting me a good deal without even lifting a finger. ;)

This was an awesome video, I very much enjoyed going along with your thought process on decisions you made and seeing your previous lessons and techniques in action. I would love to see more videos like this!

Fantastic video Scott. Great blend of information and just the zen of watching you put paint on plastic.
