just adding my own experiance of Billy Butler. A good many years ago when it was rare for music industry courses to exist I was lucky to be learning the trade of a radio plugger. BIlly was one of the few happy to take the call of a student, he put our record on rotation and was a complete legend and full of encouragement. As for the comments on the 'gutter accent' I wouldnt pay too much notice of a poster who seems ashamed of the working class people in the city, adopted accent or not Billy is an extremely well loved figure.
Billy is the best. Knows his audience. There’s a simple answer to people who don’t like what he does, or others for that matter, don’t listen! Personal choice is key. For me, Billy is the best broadcaster on radio. Massively talented man, who has been at the top of the industry for many years. One of the last personality broadcasters in the north west. Thank you Bill, for entertaining us for many years, many more to come ❤
I used to love the way he complained about his energy bills on air. Always said he'd wait for the red one to arrive. He's a bit old hat now but in his day ok. Listen to his show now and the number of mistakes make you cringe. Almost like listening to 6th form radio students doing a broadcast. 'Hold Your Plums' was funny at times...
liddabean True...but times have moved on. Old radio presenters never want to give it up for younger presenters...Billy is receiving his state pension these days...as for Wally...
I love billy especially when he interviews for instance john smith. He will interview john smith for 5 mins calling him John all the way through the interview. Then at the end of the interview he will say thanks a lot ted !!! Classic billy we love him.
I agree, Notice during the interview when showing old clips of himself, they are cut before he speaks, its because in those days he did not have that horrible grating put-on scouse accent that he later decided to adopt, seems like the ones that he aims his satire at with that in the gutter scouse accent are the same ones that think the sun shines out of his arse. Asked how he has lasted so long 'always trying to make people believe that you are you, not trying to be anyone else..' yeah right!
billy billy were have you gone not on radio what have you done we need to hear you yes we do young and old all love you how will we know your ok if we dont hear you today thousands love you yes they do otheherwise i will be blue get back on radio cos we love you tell your boss you need to stay so we can hear you every day ..from angel watchman age 12 love you billy !!!!
Radio Merseyside could do a lot worse than bringing Billy back. Their current output across all time slots is absolutely abysmal. It's a toss up between Sean Styles and Tony Snell as to who is the absolute pits. Talk about money for old rope, Billy possesses more talent in his little finger than these pair of chancers do in their combined bodies. Styles is about as funny as a broken leg, as for the philosopher Tony Snell, how in gods name has he managed to obtain a wage from this radio station when his programmes are devoid of any remote form of entertainment for decades. Come back Billy, all is forgiven.
I am not going to knock him, he isn't my cup of tea, in fact he makes me cringe, ppl like him are part of the reason why the rest of the country have a certain ideas about us, but saying that when have scousers ever gave a fuck about what the rest of the country thinks about us? He has been very successful on radio, but how in gods name can he be described as having had a successful TV career, anything he has ever done on the telly has sank (the Mersey pirate for instance) without trace.
Right old arse, stuck in a 60s, 70s, 80s time warp. Still dining out on "Hold your plums" about a decade and a half after former station editor Mick Ord took it off air. Will be 75 next January (2017) and doing very nicely financially on the local social/ night club circuit with long time stooge Wally Scott, as well as getting soft dosh of Radio Merseyside too. The Meep7777 ( below ) he's not dead yet! - just his bloody awful dated routine.
He has done no harm to me and for a man born in Wales....he has done very well for himself in Liverpool and he is a lot better than that annoying plastic scouser John Bishop
be frank . Well if he was and is so talented he should have made it big decades ago using that logic. He's forever name dropping so he must hold aspirations of becoming a big name. He hasn't and John Bishop has.
David Cartwright He made it big in merseyside..50 years speaks for itself and he has more money than you and i put together. He has also met more famous people than both of us. As for John Bishop he is a flash in the pan comedian and wont last many more years like lots of others that have come and gone...his fake scouse accent wont be missed either.
He's only been 'big' in his own head and never stops telling us who he has 'worked' with at The She Club or The Cavern. I. E. He just happened to be MC or DJ when someone famous did their performance WITHOUT HIM!
be frank. Been around too long. Sue Owen has cut his air time back again very recently. He was 75 a couple of days ago. Should promote Tony Snell to fill his boots.

Billy Lad strong words, but have to agree with you, some of the presenters are bloody awful!

when he interviews z list celebs on radio merseyside he makes me cringe at how sycophantic he is even though he hasn't got a clue who the person is
