    The best version of the song...the live dynamics, Jimmy McC(RIP) nails the guitar solos, and a full band gives the song more depth

    You should listen to and watch the video for the McCartney solo song "Coming Up", released in 1980. Legend has it that this studio version was heard on a car radio by John Lennon, and it inspired him to go back into the studio to record again after taking a 5-year break to raise his kid, Sean.

    When the McCartney album came out, it was around the time that the Beatles were officially declared broken up and everyone was blaming Paul for the break up and making him out to be the bad guy. And that was around the same time as the Let It Be album and movie, too. So Paul was being dumped on by his former friends, the critics, radio stations and Beatles fans. Thus "Maybe I'm Amazed" didn't get a fair hearing. By the time of Wings Over America--Paul and Wings were the most popular group on the planet (he was in the record books for the most hits)--so Paul's renditions of his songs from the early '70s in the live performance could finally be heard by a receptive audience.

    Like I've always said, live versions are great if you're there. The studio versions are the final expression of what the artist is trying to say.. some people really like that I understand that that is true however I've never understood why I don't enjoy listening to people's mistakes it's not even musical😊 don't ever be ashamed because you prefer for perfection over human-ness.

    This was the peak of Paul's solo career. I remember when he made the cover of Time magazine around this time, and it seemed he could do no wrong. Unfortunately this band fell apart (drug problems, etc.) and the follow up album (London Town) took too long to make, was a commercial letdown, plus it landed during the height of the punk and new wave explosion. But time has been kind to this period, and the Wings material gets almost as big a response as the Beatles stuff at Paul's concerts.

  • @Kieop
    @Kieop 3 месяца назад

    From a certain point of view, he is underrated though. He had massive recognition at the time. Paul, both alone and with Wings, was probably the most successful act of the 70s. 7 No 1 Billboard singles (9 overall), 22 top 10 singles (28 charting singles). 8 consecutive top 10 singles, a record Wings share with Elton John and the Bees Gees. The only act to have their number one single replaced by its own B-side (a live version of the same song -- so technically that's 8 number 1s). Paul has written or co-written 32 Billboard number 1s and is recognized as the most successful songwriter of all time. Every Wings album was a top 10, with over half reaching number 1. Ram reached No 2 because Tapestry was in the way and London Town reached no 2 because Saturday Night Fever was in the way.
    So how can such a person possibly be underrated?
    Well, his legacy has been forgotten in the popular consciousness. I think it's coming back though, perhaps due to these reaction vids. For over 20 years though, you'd be hard-pressed to hear his songs on classic rock stations. Critics have dismissed him as a "lightweight" and irrelevant. Paul himself was surprised at how successful Wings was when confronted with the numbers; he's used to only seeing himself in the shadow of The Beatles. I mentioned Wings to my dad recently and he was like, but were they really that big? And I was like, yeah, they were. But no one remembers them. When people think about the most successful live albums of the 70s, they think of KISS and Peter Frampton, but Wings Over America sold millions -- the first triple album by a group to reach number 1.But its success was dismissed as "nostalgia for The Beatles", since he included Beatles songs for the first time. Wings is not in the RRHOF. Paul is, but basically on the strength of Wings.
    He Is the most successful songwriter of all time, but when people are discussing the giants of popular music, he is barely in the conversation. They talk about Bruce Springsteen and Led Zeppelin etc. So yeah, he's underrated.
