I too have wondered how The Beatles solo songs would have sounded if they stayed a group the way The Rolling Stones did in the '70s. BTW, now that you've heard "Mind Games" you're ready for one of my personal favorites, "#9 Dream" from Walls and Bridges.

When John first moved to New York in 1971, he lived on Bank Street in the village and later moved to the Dakota, which is directly across the street from Central Park. I grew up in the same neighborhood just two blocks from where he lived so I used to see him walking in the neighborhood all the time and actually met him twice. Putting his politics aside Lennon was & still is a musical genius. His early stuff with the Beatles was teenage angst & love sick pop but he later broke out with songs like this. Lyrically deep, some Harrison tunes are the same way. Two great talents lost. RIP John & George.
To some of us oldies who were ‘there’ with The Beatles all along this is very emotional. He and the other Beatles were beyond superstar at that time, they became Icons. John reached new heights with his anti war and living in New York, so revered!
John was living like any other New Yorker when I was a little kid. He loved being accessible and unfortunately died because he wanted to feel connected. I was on a class trip to the planetarium right by his place the day he was killed. It's freaky thinking that guy was standing there, waiting for him all day
My sister lived on the same street as The Dakota and once was walking down the street and looked up to see John and Yoko approaching on the sidewalk, both smiling and saying excuse us as they passed her by. We saw the Beatles as kids and the Beatles were everything to us.
He was and is a legend. He had his issues but his mind and heart were in the right place. He had the talent to express these things in ways that penetrated the fabric of our society to the core.
I shall be spinning the vinyl 45 of Lennon's "Instant Karma" in the Green Fields of this years Glastonbury Festival, along with other rock tunes, including The Beatles "Revolution"" & Edwin Starr's "War".
Hey Lee! Nice reaction my friend. John loved NYC. He spoke once in an Andy Peables interview taken only a day before his assassination of how NY was 24\7 and had his kind of energy. Ironically he also spoke of how safe he felt there. He said he felt comfortable going to restaurants there without being bugged. He said mostly the people will just wave and give smiles of recognition. What a dark night that was. I still miss him
Most of this shot in NYC 🗽my hometown and in Central Park as well. Amazing how it seems John was able to walk freely back then with no bodyguards or entourage as the New Yorkers were generally respectful and gave him his space back in the day❤
No doubt, and I'm sure that lead to his sense of feeling safe on his own, but the total lack of security would end up being the critical miscalculation that would lead to the end of his life on that awful, fateful day of December 8, 1980. May he rest in peace. Peace

John was a NYer after the Beatles. He was so loved & approachable, but sadly that was his downfall. He never turned down a request for an autograph, esp kids. The video was filmed in Central Park, his apt was on W 72nd St & Strawberry Fields is in the park right across from The Dakota. He loved NY & we loved him. Still do.
Yoko introduced him to New York and he loved it. He said it reminded him of Liverpool. He did a fund raiser for John Sinclair, a New Yorker who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for marijuana possession. He was released the day after the concert. As a result, the Nixon administration considered John Lennon a threat and repeatedly tried to get him deported. He successfully fought it and stayed there, with the exception of his "lost weekend" in LA which lasted a year and a half or so, until the day he died. God, I miss that man. So cool that you reacted to the music video instead of just the song . The song is awesome, a true classic, but the video adds so much more context. I posted the following comment to the official music video a few years ago on December 8, 2020. I figure I'd copy it here to give you an idea of how the world felt when we realized John was gone. Here it is: I remember watching Monday Night Football 40 years ago today, December 8, 1980. The Miami Dolphins vs The New England Patriots. I remember rooting for one team, although I cant remember which, because it had some sort of potential playoff implications for my Buffalo Bills. Towards the end of the regulation game, a scroll came across the bottom of the screen saying a former Beatle had been shot in NYC. It didn't say who, or what kind of physical condition they were in. Immediately, I thought of Paul McCartney. Paul had been busted for Marijuana possession in Japan earlier that year, and although improbable, the only thing I could think of was maybe some kind of drug deal gone bad. I remember hoping he'd be okay. Then, a short while later, Howard Cosell interrupted the game and said it was John Lennon, that he had been shot in the back, that he was rushed to the hospital, and that he was pronounced dead on arrival. I remember standing up from my chair in disbelief. All of a sudden, this game that meant so much to me only moments earlier meant absolutely nothing. The impact of knowing the Beatles would never, ever reunite was overwhelming. And that a man of peace was so brutally gunned down for no apparent reason was really unbearable at the time. My heart goes out to his family on this sad anniversary. Rest in Peace John Lennon. Peace
This was the time and place I grew up. I was extremely fortunate but we took it for granted. NYC Central Park Zoo. mid 70s and those hot pretzels from the push cart vendors - the best!
It's funny how he goes into the Tiffany store which is known for its expensive jewelry and he comes out with one of those dirty water dogs from the hot dog stands on the corner LOL❤
John & Yoko lived in the famous Dakota Buildin' across from Central Park. It also played a major role in the film Rosemary's Baby. Iffin' you haven't seen this movie I can't recommend it enough. A true classic!
I will never forget watching Monday Night football and Howard Cosell announcing towards the end of the game - John Lennon shot twice in the back - dead on arrival.

Directly behind it is the "Rumsey Play Field" , the location of the "Summer Stage" It was my "Home" Monday thru Wednesday in the Summer during the 90's, where I was Head Carpenter for New York Grand Opera I definitely had the nicest "Yard" in NYC every Summer! I miss it alor!
Great song! 1973's music is burned into my mind. That year at age 12 I had the trauma of being locked up in an asylum. The music I heard on the air was a window to a better world I knew was out there and that I would live in someday... Well, here I am today, an old musician in Tucson.
I agree with you about this video. Just John fooling around and with no alterations to the studio track. The video is very fun but also unavoidably deep, sad, and reflective given that you can't change his tragic fate only a few years later. He lived in New York City with Yoko and Sean, at the Dakota building. He was also murdered there in 1980 by a sub-human nothing who even had the balls to have gotten John's autograph on the Double Fantasy album earlier in the day.....I so glad that Yoko is still alive to keep this monster behind bars....
The video was so awesome. It made my soul happy to see him amongst the people who loved him. It makes an old man feel good. Oh wait I can't say that till tomorrow:( lol Keep that deviant under the prison.
@@L33Reacts Happy 30th Birthday you "old man". Just wait until you're a 53 year-old fossil like me. 😉 Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow with your family!!! 🥳🎁🍻
Funny story about David Spinozza.....when he was hired to work on the Mind Games LP, he had learned that Lennon was unaware that he had previously worked with McCartney and was concerned that he might be dismissed if lennon found out due to the sour relationship he had at the time with McCartney. It so happens that when Lennon did find out, he simply commented, "Well, Paul knows how to pick good people." Having recorded with Ringo years later, Spinozza is one of a few select muscians who has played for three of the four Beatles. Jim Keltner holds the same distinction as well, although he has not yet played with McCartney.
Klaus has worked with all four, though technically, Paul was working with him, not the other way around. They also worked together for Carly Simon. Klaus played bass and Paul sang backing vocals.
What an amazing creative mind. We were all robbed by pure insanity and when you listen to John now you can have such a range of emotions,so high and so low. I simply will never be able to forgive mindless thoughts that have no place in this world.
I love that he's singing mind Guerillas 🗡 not the animal gorillas 🦍 because maybe many here aren't willing to admit it but I will my mind has got an army of them and sometimes I can't shut then off (negativity) but it's great that John gives tips about (positivity) Love Is the Answer, acceptance, letting things go what a great message I need to hear & live.❤
It's hard to watch John in NY knowing he was finally happy, and knowing what was coming. It broke my heart when he was murdered. Thanks for it all John.
The Mind Games album is set to be released in a remixed 6 disc, 2 Blu-ray, book, box set, Ultimate Collection release in July. The 2-disc version should be pretty good too.
Check out the story of when Paul went to John’s apartment when Lorne Michaels’ offered the Beatles live on the show a lowly sum if they came on the show. Paul went to the apartment while the show was in progress so they could have gotten in a taxi and crashed the show. But John did not want to do it. What a moment in time. I wish John acted more in character and spontaneously did it.
What unfortunately led to his death was his access to fans. He would literally just go shopping and walk through the parks in New York. Go grab a cup of coffee, etc. People would just run into him all the time. He didn't isolate himself. It was a different time. Sadly, this same openness allowed his killer to get too close.
#9 Dream is wonderful! Yes...Lennon and Ono moved to NY City after the Beatles and lived in the Dakota - which was featured in the movie "Rosemary's Baby".
This is one of John's most Beatley tracks. The other is #9 Dreams and I enjoy both considerably with the visuals ! Haven't yet heard the album though. For a modern muso you're groovy in liking them fab four ! 😹🤡🌈
Playing "mind games" with another person can be a pernicious undertaking, but that's not what John Lennon is singing about here. This song is inspired by a book he read called Mind Games: The Guide to Inner Space. Written by Robert Masters and Jean Houston, it explains how we can improve ourselves on various levels by playing tricks on our minds; the song is really about making yourself a better person.❤ We're playing those mind games together Pushing the barrier, planting seed Playing the mind guerrilla Chanting the Mantra "peace on earth" We all been playing those mind games forever Some kinda druid dude lifting the veil Doing the mind guerrilla Some call it magic, the search for the grail Love is the answer and you know that for sure Love is a flower You got to let it, you gotta let it grow So keep on playing those mind games together Faith in the future, out of the now You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind Yeah, we're playing those mind games forever Projecting our images in space and in time Yes is the answer and you know that for sure Yes is surrender You got to let it, you gotta let it go So keep on playing those mind games together Doing the ritual dance in the sun Millions of mind guerrillas Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel Keep on playing those mind games forever Raising the spirit of peace and love Love I want you to make love, not war I know you've heard it before

Another great Lennon vocal
That is called " The Bandshell" . Directly behind it is the "Rumsey Play Field" , the location of the "Summer Stage" It was my "Home" Monday thru Wednesday in the Summer during the 90's, where I was Head Carpenter for New York Grand Opera
I definitely had the nicest "Yard" in NYC every Summer! I miss it alor!
_Mind Games_ is actually a book, on which the song is based.
John. ❤️
The best 👌
He loved NY
Beautiful.
In this video John is dressed like Father Guido Sarduchi from SNL. LOL.
More like Father Guido Sarducchi dressed like him!
Great song! 1973's music is burned into my mind. That year at age 12 I had the trauma of being locked up in an asylum. The music I heard on the air was a window to a better world I knew was out there and that I would live in someday... Well, here I am today, an old musician in Tucson.
John was always my favourite of the Beatles Sadly another legend took way too soon, and it was brilliant song
Make sure to listen to "God" on Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" album.
Damn! That video broke me. I remember the night it happened.
Me too. It's so hard to watch, but I can't look away because he was just so damn magical.
I’ve never seen this video. It’s uplifting.
Mi gran idolo n° 1. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵👍🌹🌹🌹
Oh wait I can't say that till tomorrow:( lol
Keep that deviant under the prison.
First guy in New York to wheel his baby carriage through Central Park. I have missed him for almost 24 years (he was taken 4 days after my birthday).
"Talking things into existence."
Yep. Nicely said. Cheers
😘🤙🏼🎶🎸❤️✨️🕊
What an amazing creative mind. We were all robbed by pure insanity and when you listen to John now you can have such a range of emotions,so high and so low. I simply will never be able to forgive mindless thoughts that have no place in this world.
What a great video clip . Geez we all miss John 😢
My most liked Lennon song.
Definitely one of my favorites of his (with #9 Dream).
Shout out to Central Park in the fall. Especially the band shell and the bridge.❤ and the rocks from the Ice Age.
I wish John acted more in character and spontaneously did it.
you're right- it is a beautiful video.. but at the same time it broke my heart and made me cry.
22.7K!!!❤ Up! Up! Up!!!👆🎉🎶
What unfortunately led to his death was his access to fans. He would literally just go shopping and walk through the parks in New York. Go grab a cup of coffee, etc. People would just run into him all the time. He didn't isolate himself. It was a different time. Sadly, this same openness allowed his killer to get too close.
Love this lyric❤
"Yes is the answer
and you know that for sure
yes is surrender
you gotta let it
you gotta let it go❤"
Walk Away by James Gang. It's an old video that I'm referring to. (1971)
hard to believe some jackass murdered him in front of his apartment and yoko.....john the master of peace and love
#9 Dream is wonderful!
Yes...Lennon and Ono moved to NY City after the Beatles and lived in the Dakota - which was featured in the movie "Rosemary's Baby".
Yes he moved to New York because it was the center of the world. He said if he had lived during Roman Times he would have moved to Rome.
John Lennon and Elvis were the 2 biggest stars in the world at this time.
He moved to New York and ultimately was murdered there at the Dakota. He loved New York.

Written by Robert Masters and Jean Houston, it explains how we can improve ourselves on various levels by playing tricks on our minds; the song is really about making yourself a better person.❤
We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barrier, planting seed
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the Mantra "peace on earth"
We all been playing those mind games forever
Some kinda druid dude lifting the veil
Doing the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic, the search for the grail
Love is the answer and you know that for sure
Love is a flower
You got to let it, you gotta let it grow
So keep on playing those mind games together
Faith in the future, out of the now
You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind
Yeah, we're playing those mind games forever
Projecting our images in space and in time
Yes is the answer and you know that for sure
Yes is surrender
You got to let it, you gotta let it go
So keep on playing those mind games together
Doing the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerrillas
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playing those mind games forever
Raising the spirit of peace and love
Love
I want you to make love, not war
I know you've heard it before
I've never read the book but playing Mind Games in this song is a positive thing.
This song started as Make Love Not War that was written in 1969 so when the Beatles still excisted
9:48 What you were seeing was the code running the program that is the simulation
Great reaction Man, cheers :)
So see your connection to Lennon he seems to be your favourite Beatle. Open honest but also didn’t suffer fools.
A new “remix” is being released in July. A good album.
you're just the cutest thing ever!
I'm glad you're feeling happy today
Lol thank you. I guess the ever looming 30 has finally been accepted by my subconscious lol
@@L33Reacts LOL.. dude wait till you hit 50 🙃
or 60 lol @@hopeklemann1
It's 6 years after the White Album
He was an interesting individual, NY was a good place for him.
Its like seeing a god.
