Lee, I'm one of those "self-professed Beatles experts". I feel bad that I don't comment more, but I like your reaction videos above all others. That's George playing the lead guitar. He supposedly did that in one take. It's one of my favorite guitar solos in their entire discography.

There's a video somewhere of George's kid asking him how to play the solo and he had to pull out the album to hear it because he didn't remember. It ends there, so I don't know if that confirms it was George or not lol.
I swear that one of the things among many that made The Beatles so popular were tracks like this....very real playfulness!!! People liked it! We don't tracks like this today.
This was an immediate favorite for me the first time I heard it. I felt as if I discovered gold. It has such a riveting piano riff doubled by the bass and a searing guitar solo to boot. I especially enjoy Lennon’s vocals. When he sings, 'You can talk to me...', it fondly reminds of earlier Beatles tunes.
The video (and not the animated one from the film) was filmed as they recorded this track before leaving for India. Originally, they were going to be filmed doing anything in the studio to use as a video for Lady Madonna (their new single), But instead decided not to waste this studio time and instead record an actual new song. They chose John's Hey Bulldog and apparently had a great time. Engineer Emerick has said it was the last time he witnessed all four have a really good enjoyable time working together in the studio. It shows. Ironically, this video was used as a backdrop for Lady Madonna anyway (you can see it doesn't sync up) and wasn't till the Anthology that this video and Hey Bulldog were reunited. The song was deleted from the American cut of the film, but found its way back in the DVD reissue.
Ohhh. I was wondering about this. I had seen that Lady Madonna video and it bothered me that the video obviously didn't match the audio of it. This explains why. Thanks
Right again, Gene! You're stealing my thunder. Your history went deeper than mine, as usual. If I would have read all the comments (including yours) first, I could have simply type "Ditto" under your comment and been done with it. But regardless, it's all in support of Lee and the channel.

Such a great sleeper track (like George's "Old Brown Shoe"). It flew under the radar of most people for years -- even fans. But like most Beatles songs it gets under your skin and just won't let go.
Great song. Only the Beatles could get away with such silliness. 😂 But the music is great. You don’t think they had heavy guitar because they didn’t play like Sabbath or Zeppelin, but they blended those heavy riffs into the songs. The Beatles are special man. 😎

Listen to the isolated track of the bass on this and you will truly get an idea how awesome Paul’s riff is here. One of the best examples of his melodic bass lines.
They went into the studio to make a video for Lady Madona, and John co-opted the session saying I have an idea. Originally called Hey Bullfrog. The only lines he had at the beginning of the session was " you can talk to me..." He and Paul wrote the rest of the song during the session. There has been a lot of discussion as to who played the guitar solos over the years. Was it John or was it George. Nobody really knows, but most credit it to John. This tune was really overlooked during the Beatles career, but was resurrected for The Beatles Rock Band Game in 2009.
You are exactly right on with your history. Good job! The only additional tidbit I could add is that the video and recording were done the day before the Beatles left for India to study meditation with the Maharishi. They didn't know when they were going to return to England, so they recorded 'Lady Madonna' to be released while they were gone and they decided to make a video to go along with the single at the last minute, but John decided to use the studio time to record a new song as well. And yes, the 'Hey Bullfrog' idea was floating around for months before John & Paul finished it off to fulfill the requirements of the 'Yellow Submarine' movie soundtrack. Pretty nifty song for an afternoon of goofing around while the cameras rolled!
One of my favorite Beatles Tunes. The video version for this that a user put together was a promo video for Lady Madonna. But rather than acting like they were working on Lady Madonna John suggested they work on this song he had called Hey Bullfrog. When Paul started barking like a dog they decided to change the name to Hey Bulldog. There it is the song didn't end up on an album till it was included in the soundtrack for Yellow Submarine.
You’re so good and love that you listen to so many different singers and bands. I don’t know if you’ve seen Live Aid 1985 Wembley Stadium, Status Quo and then Queen. Thank you and keep doing your thing😊❤️👍
It took me years to listen to the Yellow Submarine album... back in the day I didn't want to buy it because I already owned the 45s of Yellow Submarine and All You Need Is Love... so it meant buying a whole album for just four new Beatles songs, which seemed like a poor use of my allowance when there were so many other albums I wanted to buy.. like Let It Bleed, A Salty Dog (Procol Harum) etc.... but those four songs are great!
I hope you purchased the 1999 remix version of Yellow Submarine. The audio is so much better. It includes a few original features added back into certain tracks, such as the complete background vocals sung by Lennon on the final verse of Yellow Submarine. The audio is enhanced for It's All Too Much as well. George and Giles Martin did a phenomenal job and gave several songs a well-deserved facelift.

OH YES, I would like to see Lee react to the Dave Grohl and Jeff Lynne covering "Hey Bulldog from "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Tribute to the Beatles" on the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964. @@PattiCrichton I was watching on Feb 9th 1964 also, I didn't actually have a choice in the matter though... But they couldn't really complain much because every family in the country watched Ed Sullivan on Sunday nights. The next day I combed my hair forward and got sent home from Catholic school. Not only was I now a "confirmed" Beatle fan from that day forward, but I had a great excuse to get out of school too! On this night, Ringo was the only name most people remembered. That would quickly change by the time of the Beatles 2nd appearance a week later.
The Beatles were in between some more massive releases when they recorded the tracks that ended up on Yellow Submarine soundtrack between 1967-68 so a lot of it didn't get much attention. 2 were George's lesser contributions and the other was just a singalong kids song. But this one seemed to endure the most of the new original tracks used for the movie. The session for this must've been amusing, considering they filmed it and used it for the promo clip of "Lady Madonna" a year before this track was officially put out.
Solid review. Paul, unusually for him, plays a staccato bassline here- a bit like Bill Wyman’s early Stones style. Best part for me is the solo- it’s so trebly and beautifully thought out. It’s probably split between both guitarists. Lennon tears it up on lead vocals
Glad you got to hear the real* thing! Awesome track. Er...not to be too picky, but FYI I think you're hearing a remaster and there's *extra* voice stuff in at the end, it's IMO a little less effective...still cool of course. They also put some previously non-existant spell-diminishing talk shit behind George's lead for no reason I can fathom. I guess they have to stick a finger in the pie...but I digress. Eff the RUclips gods, keep up the great work 👍
This was originally slated to be on the White Album. In Novemeber of 1968, a Boston radio station got a "leaked" tape of some of the White Album tracks, and they played them over a weeked. "Hey Bulldogt" was one of them...
I heard about to leaked tape on the radio before, but the fact that 'Hey Bulldog' was part of it was news to me! Can you point me to the source of that claim, or did you actually hear it on the radio? It's always a Godsend moment for me anytime I can learn a new fact about the Beatles after 60 years of memory overload. Of course, I'm going to be in "History Heaven" when the next volume by Mark Lewisohn comes out. Either way, thank you for that interesting comment!
@ ...The station was WMEX....weekend of Nov 9-10. I was keeping a list of songs at the time, my "Song of the Week"...I wrote down "Sheepdog/Hey Bulldog" since that didn't have the titles.
This particular Beatles lover is still with you. In fact, it's the main reason I've subscribed to both your Patreon channel and your RUclips channel. Don't ever get off the Beatles train ... or submarine!
My 2nd favorite Beatles song (#1 is I’ve Got a Feeling) That bit at the end with the barking was spontaneous. Paul started and John joined in, just having a great time together
Hey Bulldog is sooooo gooood!!!! The best Beatle songs are where everyone in the band is equally engaged! John and Paul singing together and John on lead guitar and Paul and Ringo on bass and drums respectively! Engineer Geoff Emerick says George play the solo and also guitar and John added piano.
Hey, been watching your reactions for awhile now. I ran across a one man musician named Carlo Poddighe. He does a lot of Beatles songs. It would be awesome if you reacted to some of them. Don't Let Me Down is amazing, but everything I've seen from him is good, to even superior. You know how heavy Helter skelter is and he does that, along with Revolution and many others.
I always loved Ringo (I think it's him) saying "here" after Big Man :D The lyrics are weird but actually quite deep. Yoko once told John: do something really weird and crazy and he said: hey, I just did Hey Bulldog! BTW because you thought it's from 67... Most of the songs were older than the movie - 2 were Paul's, 2 John's, and 2 Georges. Yellow Submarine was recored for Revolver in 66 Only A Northern Song was intened as a contribution to Sgt. Pepper in 67 but in the end left out All Togethern Now they recoreded for Magical Mystery Tour but they didn't use it in 67 Hey Bulldog was recorded during the Lady Madonna session in early 68 but never released It's All Too Much was recorded in 67 just after Sgt Pepper but not used until this soundtrack All You Need Is Love was a single and recorded just after the song above No wonder you were confused as nearly all the songs were actually recorded during the Sgt Pepper era.
@@VereinPlatzhirschamHirschenpla Yeah, I used to dress up as a "Blue Meanie" after watching 'Yellow Submarine' when I babysat my three nieces.
Eff the RUclips gods, keep up the great work 👍
Thanks!
This was originally slated to be on the White Album. In Novemeber of 1968, a Boston radio station got a "leaked" tape of some of the White Album tracks, and they played them over a weeked. "Hey Bulldogt" was one of them...
Thanks for the info. This could have *so* fit in on The White Album!
My 2nd favorite Beatles song (#1 is I’ve Got a Feeling)
That bit at the end with the barking was spontaneous. Paul started and John joined in, just having a great time together
🌸 I'm so sorry you've been going through it, dude.... the loyal followers will always be here for you.🤍
Sorry you're in the dog house Lee...it's ruff, get it? Ruff 🐕❤😘
exquisite
Totally love Paul's bass line on this/
The Beatles side of Yellow Submarine is extraordinary and often overlooked.
criminally underrated
Hey Bulldog is sooooo gooood!!!! The best Beatle songs are where everyone in the band is equally engaged! John and Paul singing together and John on lead guitar and Paul and Ringo on bass and drums respectively! Engineer Geoff Emerick says George play the solo and also guitar and John added piano.
John sings this one.
I love reactions. You get to relive the joy i once experienced hearing these songs for the first time
Some really well done covers out there. I really like the one by a group called "Fanny" which is live.
I agree! I've watched the Fanny version numerous time and always love it.
They had big girl balls to do that. Really great version
So great! Glad to see another Beatles song in your reactions! This one is such an overlooked gem. I love it.
I'll be checking him out, for sure. Thanks for the tip!
@@clayanthony7989 it's pretty damn phenomenal.. and the dude can sing too
I bought Introducing the Beatles on VeeJay probably 4 times. I really enjoyed it. Anna and Chains were my favorites from it.
Possibly the last time the four of them had fun in the studio together
How you don't get more views I will never understand. Nobody does it better.
One of my faves. Johns voice, Pauls bass, Ringos beat. Off the hizzy.
Yellow Submarine was recored for Revolver in 66
Only A Northern Song was intened as a contribution to Sgt. Pepper in 67 but in the end left out
All Togethern Now they recoreded for Magical Mystery Tour but they didn't use it in 67
Hey Bulldog was recorded during the Lady Madonna session in early 68 but never released
It's All Too Much was recorded in 67 just after Sgt Pepper but not used until this soundtrack
All You Need Is Love was a single and recorded just after the song above
No wonder you were confused as nearly all the songs were actually recorded during the Sgt Pepper era.
Yellow Submarine song was written by John and Paul. John may have contributed to All Together Now as well because he sings the bridge.
Brilliant
I'm a Beatles nut be 70 soon there are my favorite band ❤
By the way the movie Yellow Submarine is fantastic!
I love all the songs made for this movie - All Together Now is also a underrated gem!
You can watch the movie with your children - I saw it first when I was 5 or 6 years old, ok I had nightmares afterwards.
@@VereinPlatzhirschamHirschenpla Yeah, I used to dress up as a "Blue Meanie" after watching 'Yellow Submarine' when I babysat my three nieces. Made babysitting that much easier, as they hid under the covers and wouldn't come outta their room all night! Which meant, I had the house and TV all to my self, not to mention the alcohol too!
A FAVORITE!!! Thanks for reacting!!! :)
You MUST hear the version of I'm Down......the one on anthology 2....use that one....great Ringo and Paul
We did 'I'm Down' along with 'Yesterday' at the end of July 2024. I think it's on the Beatles Playlist on the L33reacts channel. It wasn't the Anthology version though, just the single version.
@@clayanthony7989 you must hear the anthology one...
The Yellow Submarine "Soundtrack" from the early 2000s(the one you're listening to) is the best mix I've heard. Also the Yellow Submarine movie with the bonus footage (this song) is also eorth seeing. The whole movie is a trip!!
This and "I am the Walrus" easily my two favorite Beatle songs.
To me the best way to listen to a Beatle song is to hear it by the actual Beatles!
Woof woof, i love it
A song so nice he played it twice 😊
An unexpected Beatle song "You Know my Name" should be a possible next aim!
I really like that… ❤❤❤
Isn’t that just a bunch of randomness?
Should give a warning with that one. 'Not a traditional Beatle song.' But I love it!
We already did 'YKMN' almost a year ago. It was my very first reaction request. You can find it on the Beatles Playlist that Lee put together, unless YT made it disappear for some reason...
@@clayanthony7989 I remember that, now that you mention it. Probably worth watching again.
My favorite deep track , and was lost for twenty years...Bulldog kicks! And Lee thank you for the Tears for Fears Redo!.
Not sure that it was lost. It was on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack.
@stephanieo2509 not the original release, was put on the Release of the CD' releases in mid 90"s..
Remember, at that time Vynl and cassettes, were only thing us poor deprived teens could buy.....then the CD' was born..we were happy to buy all of the catalogs we had Vynl and cassettes on CD.. So Hey Billdog was not added to original Yellow Submarine , album..until release of the CDs. 😁👍✌️
Triple Play !
Excellent bass line
If you look up the "Hey Bulldog" promo video on the Beatles channel on RUclips, you can actually watch different clips of the Beatles playing this song. It's a great video.
People (not us here supporting you) think they know the Beatles. It’s always hold my hand this, love me do, and please please me. I like to play this song and Helter Skelter to them in response. lol!!!
One of their big est and that's saying alot. I only 1st heard this in 2001 on an extended version of the yellow submarine film
Check out the version by Fanny.
Yea man.
