    Gilgamesh seems to be a very interesting character story-wise and a for versus Battle debates and most debates the first thing you have to establish for a character to be able to fight Gilgamesh is that they have to be able to hurt him and surprisingly there are a lot of characters who just can't even hurt him because of his special armor and on top of that he has every noble fantasm including ea which can bypass durability and his ability to be able to see the future and know what he needs to do with his eyes when he chooses to activate it he also has some ridiculous feats in fate extra CCC I've seen people argue that he's complex multiversal in that game or maybe even higher overall he's just a really powerful character and a really good for versus debates especially against characters who have similar stats to him.

      @@GraveEnd That's the fun part, he wasn't significantly weaker at all. He still had all his treasures, his armor, his faster than an F-15 future jet from the past, and Ea. The only real difference was most of his stats dropping (his endurance, agility, mana, and magic resistence stats all dropped), but that doesn'treally effect much when his main fighting style is "fire swords at people". All the Grail Mud did was give him a physical body, which led to him being semi-incarnated into the world. And because of Gilgamesh's original purpose from when the Mesopotamian gods created him (that being to guide humanity to unity with the gods and to act as a sort of Arbiter), being incarnated led to him being synced up to modern humanity, and since modern humanity is, well, modern humanity, Gilgamesh went from the prideful, mocking, yet relatively chill King of Heroes just fighting to keep thieves away from what he views as his stuff, to the genocidal sociopath he was in the Stay/Night routes.
      All his worst traits were augmented, which sorta reverted him. After all, as a servant, he has all his memories of his life, so although his Archer self is based on his time as the cruel King of Heroes from before Enkidu died, he still had his his memories from his time as the wise King of Men after Enkidu's death. That led to him not being quite as bad as he would be if he only had his pre Enkidu death (P.E.D) memories. Sure, his personality was still based on him from P.E.D, but he was reigned in by his knowledge of who he became afterwards, so he wasn't _too_ bad. But being incarnated led to his arrogance and pride being turned up to 11 to match modern humanity, (plus spending 10 years in what he views as a disgusting world). But he was still just as strong. When he was up against heroes like Heracles, he managed to use his clairvoyance to instantly figure out who Heracles was, then completely destroy him without even using Ea or his armor, or even any of his stronger NPs, just generic A-rank weapons, and he was still able to absolutely body Saber. Thing is, as far as he was concerned, Shirou was less than scum, a worm who dared twist the title of hero, and who made fakes of his treasures, which led to him not using anything that would've saved him from UBW, like his Clairvoyance to see that UBW swords are faster than his GOB weapons, since in UBW the swords are already there, where the GOB need to pull the weapons out of the gates first, then fire them. Nor did he use his armor, which would've granted him extra protection, and could even defend him from weaker Excaliblasts, nor did he use Ea, which would've completely dismantled the UBW Reality Marble, and left Shirou too drained of mana to reactivate it. Then even when he swallowed his pride and pulled out Ea, he still hesitated to actually use it, which cost him his arm.

    Good video but the one critique I would have is the second half of the video regarding UBW Gilgamesh. The Grail did not change him, incarnating into a real flesh and blood body did. He explains in Fate/Extra that when he incarnates his personality changes to reflect the humanity of the time he is in. Also, he explains that even if he hates the current state of the world that he would not try to fix it as a spirit because spirits/servants are not permanent and their time has already ended, but incarnating would cause him to try and change humanity because he is no longer temporary. To put it in your own words as a spirit he is dreaming but incarnated he is awake. Also, he was not shocked or surprised by the nature of the grail because he already knew that humans were that bad and had already accepted that as their king. This is shown in the VN in his conversation with All the World's Evils and in fact, in UBW he essentially wants humanity to face their sins and for throughs who survive to become stronger after overcoming them proving their worth.
    This is a paraphrase of the conversation from the wiki,
    "It is normally impossible for correctness and affirmations to exist with the cursed vortex of hatred because all has determined that everything is ugly and hateful, so the words "yes" and "that is right" appearing within is an anomaly. It does not allow the existence of "entities", so such a thing should not be possible. It questions these affirmations, and gets a response. Gilgamesh, as the king, will acknowledge that the world was originally such a way, he will permit it to be so, and he will bear the burden of sin for the entire world. It then asks "what is a king?", causing a contradiction in that it admitted there was someone else within it."

      Bro that’s cool yet very strange, cause it makes me question why him? Yeah he’s the king of heroes, but that means other extremely old like servants will have to act the same way. But it’s still cool and it reflects us today. Which is very sad.

    This video was really well made. Gilgamesh is, without a doubt, my favorite character from Fate and one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Like, his character made me want to go read the Epic of Gilgamesh. In my opinion, Gilgamesh is a great antagonist that absolutely deserves to up there with villains like Makishima from Psycho-Pass, and Johan Liebert From Monster as some of the best of all time. Before I watched or read any synopsis of Fate, I had heard about Gilgamesh. Although, admittedly, I was stupid and didn’t realize it was the same name as the King from Uruk, but I digress. When I first heard about him, my initial thoughts and predictions were that he was going to be stuck up, fuck boy asshole that thinks he’s all that and gets bodied immediately every time. Boy was I wrong. He’s arrogant and that’s all I got right. In my opinion, not only is Gilgamesh a highly entertaining character with great voice acting (both subbed and dubbed) and an instantly iconic design, but is also very well written and smartly executed. Not once, did I think Gilgamesh was out of character. Plus, let’s be honest, he easily has some of the best fights in the series.

    The only character in all of anime that I can think of who is more prideful than Gilgamesh would be Father/The Dwarf in the Flask from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
    "When you notice an insect on the ground, do you stop to consider it a fool? The life of an insect is so beneath you that it would be a waste of time to even consider judging it. That would be an accurate summation of my feelings towards you humans."
    Father sought to literally bring God down to Earth, absorb him, and become a perfect being. He thought himself able to acquire and control God. Even in defeat, he thought himself and his ideals to be superior to God's, that he should be above God's judgment.
    And that was AFTER he removed the sin of Pride from his soul.

      I’m not sure but I have a theory which is that as he grew he notice how gods treated the humans and how the humans just led it happen at that moment the humans become the apex specie but they didn’t know or just didn’t care cause they still obeyed the gods and the gods at that time were extremely weakened to the point they couldn’t live with a physical form but in a spiritual form Gilgamesh was the one sent to connect the divine world with the mortal one so the gods could still rule over humanity and treat them as they like that’s why he sees them as mongrels even though he really loves humans

    • @Ultimate0Phantasm
      @Ultimate0Phantasm 2 месяца назад

      Wrong.
      It's because he saw too far. He is both a god and a human and because of that he is able to view a future further than man and gods could (age of will). Such inhuman conception made him alone. He grew to favor humans more than the gods and thus he took that path despite being alone. That is why Enkidu praised his ego. He took such a lonely path for the sake of that future because that is what he thinks is his duty as the king of the planet. He sees humanity as the future of the planet that is why he love his people and protected them from monsters that could threaten them by killing those said monsters. But protection is not the only way to guard things from danger but also becoming a storm is necessary for that future. For that future he alone needed to become an arbiter and reaper hating both man and gods. The more he loved the future of humanity the less he could be involved by anyone. But if his oppressive action still does not make sense to you then let me explain more.
      Humans are invention incarnate, but at that time they had no common standard. Because they had no common standard, they continued to create new things endlessly. Gilgamesh decided to become that common standard, their absolute basis. He stole and hoarded as he pleased. All the treasures, all the possibilities that they bore, he gathered and made it his own for the sake of judging and arbitrating. As he chooses and was created as their judge and arbiter. An arbiter who was human yet above humanity, affiliated with the gods but not a god. Gods can be a menace while humans can be rulers, and he is both.

    honestly i think you missed a little of gil’s story while he did feel some agony from enkidu’s death it was actually the fact that his job/goal(even if it was from the gods) was to look over humanity and when his friend died he realized that he can die and would in his mind fail at a task given to him and accepted by him. it was actually after he lost the herb that he came to realize that even death was part of the human experience so he had to oversee even that part, also he went back to get the herb again just to have it in his treasury

I haven't watch many other shows from Fate, but seeing how Grand Order shows the other side of Gilgamesh has now started to make me appreciate both the Fate and the real Gilgamesh.
