J. Tooth......I used to think you were crazy, then I thought you were nuts....... but now I think you're pretty danged good at what you do! I watch them all, thank you and well done!
Hi Jaw Tooth, I really enjoy your train videos. I'm a railfan myself. My brother and I went there about 3 years ago and we really enjoyed it. West Virginia is a beautiful state with friendly people. I got a few long CSX coal trains while we were there. Our RUclips channel is Braun bros and briar. We mostly do pipe tobacco reviews, but we have done other videos such as exploration, train videos, and a couple of white water rafting videos. We are from Fayetteville, N.C and we keep up your awesome videos. My name is Mike Braun and I just bought this phone from my mom so it's still in her name. Keep up the good video s, I never get bored watching trains!
🌲🌲🌳🚂 🚂🌳🌲🌳 Thank you Sir ,for the post. I have watched a few posts of Thurmond. This was heartwarming. Would really enjoy, looking down in too the coal cars. As they go buy. Hopefully you will share more . God bless
Years ago I spent the night in Thurman then took a rafting trip down the New River. Love this little town. There were more folks living there way back when but now I hear there only several people calling Thurman home. Loving hearing the trains go by. Tks for sharing.
Cool videos! Thurmond is a fun place to railfan. On my 2014 trip down there, I actually caught a 3-way meet at the station. A stopped westbound intermodal was on track 2 when I got there. Shortly afterwards, a loaded coal train came down the branch across the river and stopped, allowing me to get a nice pic of the station with trains on both sides. An eastbound tanker train came through. Then the intermodal headed out followed by the coal train going onto the siding that was on the other side of the coal tower where it was left for CSX crews to take. In 2016, since the only train I saw was Amtrak's Cardinal, I got a lot of pics around Thurmond, matching them to screenshots from the movie Matewan.
I would have loved to see that train going down the branch to the mine & you following it all the way & back again. I know you did one similar but came back & waited for the return. That was my favorite video.
Thanks for the great video of these awesome coal trains. I like the mid train helpers on the second train. There is interesting track work and scenery. I did not see that movie mentioned but my love of coal trains keeps me wanting to watch in this area. Thumbs up and a sub.
I have been lucky to have been in bombardier;s la Pocatiere QC facility and Also Thunder Bay. The down side is you get striped of all tech at the door. Amazing to see a rail car being flipped around on a rotater and robots welding, riveting .. just amazing
Great catch as usual Brian. You even caught a crew change there at the end! You were definitely at one of the Mecca ‘s of rail fanning. How would you like to have that house at 40:? , lol
Thanks for the film JT, looks a great place to combine rail fanning with walking, the scenery looks great. Would be awesome to stand close by a freight coming over that bridge and round the tight turn up to meet the main. When you film mixed freight cars, if you film the coloured diamond plates on the tank cars I can tell you what fluid they are carrying. Thanks again for the film, and I'll check your band out.
Great catch! I visit this place often and I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve seen a coal train with DPUs in the middle. I’ve never noticed any DPUs on any trains in this location. They must be trying out something new or this was a rare run.
I find it interesting how the buildings are still standing. They could easily bulldoze them and make some stupid new development, but they stay. It is a true ghost town. Everyone left, now it’s just the trains, the railfans, and the silence of the West Virginia hills. A relic of what once was.
The concrete coaling tower must have been filled from gondolas instead of hoppers, judging from how low the opening is. The Thurmond station appears to be still in use; is the train order semaphore still operational?
Most of the coal trains through here a put together in Hinton, WV as of recently. Hinton is only 10 minutes from me and Thurmond about an hour and 15 minutes
@@michaelwalton8397 I rode the Amtrak New River fall train to Hinton. We spent the day there and rode Amtrak back. I hope they keep doing that trip. I also bought an awesome belt from Hinton that I use. Thanks for watching Michael!
@@JawTooth I love your videos. This one a little more because its basically the area I go to alot as this stretch (mainly Hinton to Alderson) is what I grew up on. And I hope it continues too, it's one of the main things Hinton has that brings in money. And if you haven't looked into it before, Norfolk Southerns Pocahontas district is a really fun stretch of track between Bluefield, WV and Williamson, WV
@CSX Train Master yup. Here recently they've brought the trains into Hinton separately and they'll be made into one usually by the pizza hut we've got down here
Lovely and beautiful upload thanks for sharing your talent. It was beautifully made. Enjoyed watching it. Have a wonderful week and keep up the good work...Regards Khalique...(★‿★)
Lol, yeah, I think Maitland is a town in WVa. Thanks for letting me know. I actually have the movie Matewan on CD. It is a really cool movie and it has a lot of shots of the depot and the area. Its been a few years since I watched it though. Thanks for watching and commenting Thom!

Great video. I've only been through Thurmond on Amtrak. Only 10 residents in town I heard. Beautiful.

Wow, so this is West Virginia! I know that state just because of "Take Me Home, Country Roads". :)
Awesome Video! 👍🏻 We Have Coal In NSW But Not As Big As That!

Nice video from this amazing place!
Nice catches and cool coal trains Brian! Especially enjoyed the shots from around town. Cheers, Dan
Another great video from the king of US mainline railway videos
Great catch, Brian. I guess coal trains are getting more scarce, so we should enjoy them while we can. Thanks again.

awesome share, that;s a long train
An excellent upload dear friend...enjoyed very much & liked accordingly with great pleasure.Enjoy your Sunday & new week...in love & light...Reeka.
That line he was railfaning is the CSX, Allegheny subdivision.
I like the industrial sides of town... and how we move stuff around in this country... it's not about trucks.

Nice the engineer saw you!!
Big old coal train, lot of weight there.
On the csx railroad tracks they were laying on the side of the tracks
Awesome trains !!! Big Like !!!
like number 45! diggin it mate! unusual to see engines in the middle of a train, probably not uncommon tho.
I thought that was cool also. I don't see much of that in my areas. Out west its common. Have a great day Randy and thanks for watching!
Most of the coal trains through here a put together in Hinton, WV as of recently. Hinton is only 10 minutes from me and Thurmond about an hour and 15 minutes

Coal trains are always really long in West Virginia because there is a lot of coal in the state.
Where is a good place to stay overnight near Thurmont?
That Q train sounded like it had a lot of flat spots on the wheels.
how do you find the timetables for the trains? I have been wanting to get into railfanning but I can't find the timetables anywhere.
👌👌👍👍🙏
Thurmond used to be the murder capital of America. It also is famous for having the worlds longest running poker game that lasted 14 years.
Hay Brian was that building you walked out of a motel? Kind of cool if it is
