Okay first I would like to get ahead of this by saying, yes, one of my drawings is missing a finger and you know that may or may not have been on purpose… who’s to know.. But you know what - not everybody has five fingers and that’s totally cool so not every drawing needs five fingers either man. Oh well, anyways, I hope you all enjoy the video!

A good resource that I use is Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs.
It is a pretty thorough book with properties of the herb, the element, planet, deities it is associated with, and gender, along with folk names and magical and ritual uses. It should by no means be your only reference, but it's a good book with a lot of detail and an extensive bibliography

I recently discovered your channel and I am absolutely grateful for all your efforts. Your videos are so informative and esthetically pleasing. One thing I noticed is how much you apologize. It makes me sad that anyone has made you feel you needed to have such an apologetic nature. While it shows your kindness, I wish you would embrace your beauty and power. Let go of the need to apologize to anyone, who's negatively critical & not willing to see your greatness. In no way is this more criticism, just an urging for you to be unapologetically you! You want to talk with your hands? Do it. They are lovely and create magic. In any event, thank you! I appreciate you!

@@TheGreenWitch i also LOOOOOOVE expressive hands! there is such liveliness in it...have you seen the movie "Joy"...there its said something along the lines that Joys brilliant way of expressing through her hands was the secret to her success in video.
but i get it...the selfcritical voices and trying to take the risk of getting hurt by them by anticipating. i´m guilty of that. :/
takes one to know one... :´D
but yes, i agree with amber, you are so gorgous, you radiate this calm and beautiful energy in your videos, you are absolutly perfect looking. you voice is so dreamy and from your finger braces to your editing you are really making great videos, esthetically and information wise.
It´s a challenge in this critical patriarchal world, to come into selflove and power, and recording yourself and watching it 100 times while cutting sure does put the spotlight on all our insecurities, doesnt it?
long story short: you are great! please use your hands!!! they are absolutly gorgeous (and i´m from europe, where using superlatives is NOT A STANDARD ;)

This is a lot of work, and I don't think I have cultivated enough persistence to study hebrs in such a detailed manner! 😂 When I study herbs I take the herb, I meditate with it, if it's safe i taste it, i smell it, and I meditate with the sensations the herb is giving me. In the magical field I follow more the energies than anything else. I follow the energies with the eyes closed, as if i felt the herb for the first time. I also understood a lot of thing on how my energy works with the herbs. One day I will study every medicinal property and I will have a proper herbarium! I will fight the laziness💪 but I'll keep the meditation method too, it's really beautiful

I'm working on a book of the native wildflowers and plants in my area of Texas. Since I can't draw as well as you, I take photographs of each plant - usually 3. One is the entire plant or at least a large portion; one are the leaves and their arrangements, and last, the flower if it is a wildflower. I just became a Master Gardener and wanted my farm to be a place of native wildflowers. I also include when and where it blooms. Llove the list of topics you cover for each herb - I also grow (or try to grow) herbs and will probably do those as a separate book for my ease of use. Thank you for a beautiful lesson.

Hello dearie - just a couple comments
The word you’re seeking 3/4 of the way through, instead of ‘contradictions ,’ is ‘counter indications,’ or ‘contraindication’. If you look up the distinctions you’ll see why 😍.

    • @kitdubhran2968

It’s the “opposite” of indications. Indications are when to use a medicine. Contraindications are when NOT to use it.

I live in Australia and I often find connecting with Sabbats very difficult because so many plants and correspondences are Northern based and so I often feel disingenuous, or perhaps that I'm not including more local elements to complement the others and this video has given me a much better idea of where to start in deep diving into my local plants and what might be useful to include. You have inspired me greatly to not be afraid any longer and I can't thank you enough!

I've been having trouble trying to retain all the medicinal properties from multiple different sources, either by studying herbs for specific body systems or studying ailments and the herbs to best match with them. But organizing information by just the herb itself and also how beautifully you outline and go into depth with each one is such a perfect blend of organizing medical uses and spiritual practice! thanks for the awesome video can't wait to start my own herbal journal!

I think the layout of the information was well organized, having a section that includes a specific "indication of use" and the "precautions contradictions and cross-effects" seems like it means looking at the plant as both good and bad. It reminds me of the saying "All things are poisons, for there is nothing without poisonous qualities. It is only the dose which makes a thing poison" ~Paracelsus
Annie, you have a very scientific approach to your practice

As humans we are enchanters of the world whether we realize it or not, imbuing everything we encounter with meaning good or bad. Some of us try to make a conscious effort of this (practitioners of any form of occult work especially though not exclusively) but it comes naturally to us all for better or worse.
I just want to say I really appreciate the care you put into all your work which is really the essence of The Work. It's plain to see you are both a natural and conscious enchanter and I'm grateful that you choose to share this with people. It's not easy when you cultivate a magical or miraculous world view only to have someone sigh it off like another mundane monday.

I’ve been a witch for over a decade now and I really appreciate you showing me I’m not crazy or OCD. I see so many people rattle off some crazy things about herbs and I don’t feel qualified to ever correct someone (we are always learning) but I am very cautious about uses I add for myself. I’m really only comfortable now with about 17 herbs from memory but I work nearly every few days on new ones and at least one more source. I’m still learning on what I consider the most trust worthy sites but I have some favorite books. Can you recommend one or two of your favorite web sources to me?

Half a decade here. Documenting the latin binomial and family has helped me so much, as my younger sister has suddenly been found to be allergic to many cooking herbs and powders. I make my own anti-inflammatory medication because I have no herbal allergies, my body only needs small doses, and there’s a family history of acetaminophen dependence. I find that herbs work extremely well for me so far (everyone out there, PLEASE list the medicinal herbs you use - with dosage and preparation - to any doctor like you would medications), and I now completely avoid any potential chance of liver damage and addiction. I know that’s not possible for everyone.
I’ve become friends with a certified reiki practitioner that focuses on mental and spiritual health, and we’re found that I’m very receptive to energy (as I hypothesized soon after starting my journey from monotheism to shintoism). It’s allowed me to reflect on how I behave when I’m in a group, and I also now understand why certain things likely occurred during my youth and teenage years. Monotheistic religions never led me to these conclusions and resulting clarity.

I hope to eventually be this organized in my practice! This was such a thorough walk-through. I know you posted this 4 years ago now, but it has helped me today. So I thank you! Edit now that I've finished the video: I really appreciate you going more into detail for the cultivation, harvesting and preparation sections. I am slowly adding more to my garden, as I also value sourcing plants and produce that are close to me. I also have a small flock of chickens - I have one blue layer, one green layer and four brown layers. They're my special little garden babies 💚 I am in the process of starting an Apothecary and Art Shop (online and pop-up stands at local markets), though I still need more experience before dabbling in ingestible products. I'll mostly be starting out with jar spells, rune stones and maybe some smudging bundles - I'll be sourcing everything either from my garden or foraging in town. I hold both science and spirituality in high regard, so I'm really happy that you covered so much on medicinal purposes! I already dabble in kitchen magic for myself, but I only use ingredients that are commonly known to be safe for consumption (for example, rosemary or lemon balm). This video gave me so many ideas, and more things to explore. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! I definitely want to check out any recent stuff you've posted.

My notes on my garden are no where as well organized as as this I’m definitely using some of of your suggestions.
A couple recommendations I have to add is companion plants for growing. And if you will let the plant go to see add when it blooms and what pollinators and beneficial insects it attracts. I try to make sure I have flowers for pollinators for as much of the growing season as possible. So I might adjust how many of a certain plant I’m growing as a “sacrifice” to the pollinators to keep them around and healthy all season long.

I love watching your videos! They make me so sleepy and tired. But not in a bad way! lol! It’s relaxing, calming, paceful, hypnotic! ... dare I say witchy! 😎 when I start getting anxiety attacks from living in a large city with no natural surroundings close by, or any other stress in my life! I’m so glad I’ve found your videos! Even though I don’t know you in RL I want you to know your touching many souls and healing them in a gentle way by just existing and loving yourself and being you and sharing a piece of life with us! Stay beautiful!

Thank you so much for this! Here I was thinking I was crazy because everyone makes these beautiful journals, but not organized with any rhyme or reason and I was making one to quickly look up medicinal properties as needed if I forget something. Absolutely beautiful!!!💚

Thank you for this video! I especially appreciate how thorough your medicinal properties section is. I'm a current medical student who's always been interested in herbalism, and over the lockdown period I've been drawn to start finding ways to blend herbalism and western medicine into an integrative practice. I know I have a long way to go before that becomes a reality, but your videos have truly inspired me to take that first step and start experimenting and learning, even for just my own benefit. Thank you for that.

@17:50... Not bizarre at all. A fascinating look into your knowledge and craft. I found it very informative and interesting. The music and setting is quite soothing as is your tone when you speak. I love the look of the lighting and greenery with the earthy materials around it. You have a real classic cottage style which I enjoy very much. The information you've explained is wonderfully done. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to more. :-)

    That’s amazingly detailed information.
Maybe I missed it, do you list the “active ingredient” of the herb and what western medicine it is or has been used in? Like willow bars was used in aspirin.

Hi! I read on Instagram that you will answer questions for the first hour - so my question is how you deal (or recommend to deal) with moments in which you doubt your spirituality, your witchy abilities or your path? I sometimes feel silly doing witchy things, and that really takes away the pleasure of the path.
Have a great day and thank you so much for all your wonderful content!

This was so informative. I've recently started herbalism in a more professional setting in a very old local apothecary. Advising people what to take and what not, selling supplements and herbal medicine.
I also grow a lot of indoor plants which I keep for ornamental reasons, but I've been dealing with pests. Keeping plants indoors really made me understand what aspects are important and what certain plants need. If you want to grow plants for consumption, it's best to use natural pesticides. Indoors I use neemoil but in the garden I love using Nettle water. In Europe we have sting nettles, which you can let rot in a bucket of water. This solution is perfect to ward off any insects. Whereas a hydroperoxide and neemoil are great as an antifungal solution.
I recently found your channel and I really adore your videos and your style.

Where are you studying herbalism?? I have been taking some plant ID classes at the local community college and all of this information; name, Latin name, growing specifics including zone, propagation, diseases, uses, harvesting, etc. is what we do. I wanted to take the time to draw the plants myself and its nice to see your drawings in your book. I live on a postage stamp size lot and have to choose what I decide to grow. Currently does include a lot of herbs and I am going through a mint phase. Wondering about adding nettles, but doubt that the neighbors want that spread to their properties. Your cut zinnias and hydrangeas are beautiful. I don't recognize the white petals you are using though.

Something I think would be very beneficial for you to add as a herbalist would be the "phytochemicals" in a herb. In some cases these phytochemicals provide some of the medicinal properties of a particular herb. As an example the antimicrobial property in tea tree has roots to phytochemical tannins. This is helpful as if you are reviewing another herb and notice some similiar phytochemicals you will immediately have an idea of the properties of that other herb. Of course every plant has different concentrations of this depending on even its growth phase but it helps support a general idea. I would love to see more of your journal and even a list of herbs that you have recorded

YES! Sorry I know this is an older video but I just stumbled across it. I'm currently working through my own herb guide and these are the exact things I'm identifying as well. Coming from a medical background but I need to get more into preventative care! Beautiful coverage of herbs and not only their properties but WHAT makes them have those properties (what phenols etc) and interactions (i.e. blood thinning meds, diabetes, etc) hoping to go for my NP license and include herbalism

Wow! Thank you! I love herbs and come from a family which have been using herbs medicinally for many generations, not sure when it started. For some reason I always felt I had to memorize everything, I am glad you shared this with us, it made me realize I could write everything down, would be easier to pass down to next generation and, let's face it, easier than remembering everything. I love the way you organized your book. Did you ever consider publishing your book? I would certainly love to buy that!

I'm not an herbalist, although I would be much more inclined to be if I lived where you live rather than in an apartment on a bustling street, but I do practice witchcraft and enjoy watching how connected to nature you are using herbs and being surrounded by so much life in your house as well (love all the flower clippings and plants growing). I love everything you do and I probably would not have watched the entire video if you didn't captivate me (like always) with your intertwined clips of your creations in the video. Love it as always, thanks for being you.

This is everything I include I just have one or two more

This video is amazing! Your book has depth, detail and beauty. All important. Two things I would add. One is an actual printed photograph of the herb for each one. And two is a small section at the bottom for magically how the herb reacts to you. For example mugwort is used to clear out negative energy from homes but I find it works best for me for sleep spells for a deep dreamless refreshing sleep. So I might use sage for clearing. That doesn't mean mugwort doesn't clear only that the herb speaks to me differently. You might find as you work you can get more out of one cough remedy over another despite both being equal. There is a personal relationship with each herb often overlooked. Love your videos!
