Paul Mescal great young Irish Actor.Follows Lucius, the son of Maximus's love Lucilla, after Maximus's death. also Staged ship battles were called naumachia and began in 46 B.C. when Rome threw a massive party for Julius Caesar. He had just made his triumphant return after defeating his rival, Pompey the Great. The very first naumachia was part of this celebration, in honor of his military efforts against Gaul and Egypt in 46 B.C.
Caesar ordered the excavation of a basin close to the river Tiber, creating a fake lake around 1,800 feet long and 1,200 feet wide and surrounded by marble seating for the wealthy spectators. Up to 3,000 men fought in the sea battle, which featured 12 Roman galleys. It was a truly impressive event, attended by people from all over Italy.
When the Colosseum was finished, Romans asked themselves: what better way to celebrate the building’s capability than to flood the Colosseum and hold a massive naval battle? And so, the first one Colosseum naval battle was held during the arena’s opening ceremony.
Emperor Titus ordered the new Colosseum to be flooded. Then, they used special flat-bottomed ships during the battle to accommodate for the shallow water. The event replicated the battle between Athens and Syracuse. They even made an artificial island in the middle of the arena where the sailors landed to fight.

Looks good. It might not match the first (that came out at the right time/right cast/right mood), but even if it gets close, I will be happy.
He seems to have gone down the "Make history interesting" path. A few things did happen, and a big pitch of "Don't go and look this up", which to me is fine because the film is not played as "This is 100% true....trust me"
Music-wise, he has gone with Harry Gregson-Williams, who has done a lot of films and also does a good job. Scott used him in The Martian, The Last Duel, and Kingdom of Heaven.
That's good to know. If it's anything like the movies you listed especially Kingdom of Heaven the music is going to be phenomenal. I think it looks great just not sure if they'll make back the large budget that was spent on it.
@@holdmydualshock Yeah, that budget means it needs a billion to break even. The thing is, a lot of films that don't do well do end up making money, but it takes months/years of TV showing/rentals and hard copies.
The studio must be ok with it though, and I guess they saw early shots and were happy for him to keep spending.
I might give this movie a shot when I get the chance.
I love Gladiator, they seem to have spared no expense on the sequel. I am looking forward to it. This movie is stacked acting wise.
LMAO yeah they definitely didn't spare any expense but quantity doesn't always equate to quality so hopefully it does this time

I think it all comes down to the expectations you have going in. Will it be better than the original... NEVER but it could still be pretty amazing
It would be impossible to upstage Russell Crowe but the acting from the trailer did look pretty great

By the way, when in the world would gladiators bring in actual rhinos for big matches at a colleseum? Seems nuts. No offense, but I don't recall folks from ancient Rome harboring actual rhinos for gladiator matches.
They did Fight them. Some gladiatorial contests included animals such as bears, rhinos, tigers, elephants, and giraffes. Most often, hungry animals fought other hungry animals. But sometimes hungry animals fought against gladiators in contests called venationes ("wild beast hunts").

They've always fought wild animals in the arena. It made for more a more interesting speculation for the masses. So it will be cool to see the Rhino in the movie
@@holdmydualshock Sure and even more so in Kraven the Hunter which comes out in theaters a month after Gladiator 2 as well. By that, we'll have another movie with a Rhino for someone to wrestle with.

Did not expect this let alone the caliber of actors. Gladiator is a top 3 all-time favorite.
Has potential and I'm hopeful...hope the actor playing Lucius grows on me.
That being said...if that rap music makes it into the movie, I'm out. Completely out of place if you're paying any type of homage to the first movie.

I totally agree with you about the song choice. It has no place in this type of movie and the original Gladiator never needed the gimmicks
U can tell from trailer it's nowhere near as good as the original! They always show far too much from movie when they are worried about box office! This was basically the entire movie! And I wasn't a bit excited above neutral! Wrong lead actor most won't recognise which is first issue! Too much obvious CGI second issue as in original it was done much better and that was older CGI! Storyline is way to obvious almost exactly the same!! Hollywood to scared to diversify creatively. There wasn't one aspect of this Trailer that really excited me.....all too samey n obvious! I'm not even in a rush to see it! Pity 🤔
