@@elsie8757 Spoiler alert. He has no guests due to jimmy’s reputation, Hugo, his character was inspired by his birth dad, and he changed the last name. Jimmy became increasingly more popular but also became more offensive and that is what drove his popularity away. All these ghosts and their story’s take place before everything happening now, all 4 ghosts died, Amy first all the way to Rose. Around Roses death jimmy was old enough to take over the hotel but wasn’t much success without his mother’s help and the way jimmy started to act. Also due to the fact Jimmy’s dad Hugo came back into jimmy’s life after all that happened, jimmy became more edgy and nobody liked the hotel. In the beginning jimmy says “not tonight.” Meaning he has been haunted by his dad’s ghost for many years. (My guess). Just wanted to clear things up if you didn’t know.

What I love about this game is that while Jimmy can kick your ass if you come in contact with him, he's still portrayed just a dude. A dangerous one, but still a human. He doesn't just spawn behind corners, he can make mistakes, you can notice him peek from behind things and actually see him move through the environment.
Yeah I agree, they portrayed the humanity of Jimmy extremely well. Usually games like these make the person hunting you spawn behind corners n shit and while it is kind of scary it doesn't feel real
@@tapeworms agreed. It's still really scary, but it's not unfair. It doesn't make you guess and get annoyed because an enemy jumped at you out of nowhere
Right. It's so rare for these horror games or whatever to make the antagonist or monster actually seem human or realistic with the way they attack, kill, or jumpscare u. This game must of took YEARS to make. Idk how u can create something so scary, yet realistic and just overall executed so perfectly.
Mark here some tips for the game... Hopefully those could help you: -You don't have to watch every key hole before you enter a room -Stay and watch more through the peephole before you leave the room -Watch at every corner, if you see a shadow then Jimmy is there -If Jimmy close to you, the three lines who are in the circle down right in your screen gonna be red -Dont hide in bathroom if you are in the third floor cause most of times he could catch you -There are some times that you have to stay still to trigger a cutscene and then you could be able to make contact with a spirit/ghost -If you see lights flickering that means they could guide you to a ghost -You are safe from Jimmy when you are in basement (LG) and ground floor and stairs -If Jimmy catch you, you would find the spirit box in the first floor store -Find all objects to make contact with spirits and make the story progress -If you talk to a ghost Jimmy can't hurt you or catch you -The elevator could give you hint in which floor you have to go -You are able to lock jimmy in the room if you have the deadlock key of that room... That gives you some time to roam around freely
enemy ghosts are more often..? ...okay, maybe so, but that's sad this is a bit more of a realistic experience, even going with the completely acted out real-life cutscenes and real-life scenes (seemingly) edited into the game at points

Same!!! Mark released this series around the same time my mom passed away and watching this was a good escape from reality. Now I go back and rewatch it, when I'm stressed sometimes and it helps!
Try the Myst series even though you are the only one there you just can’t help but feel like someone is nearby. You also get fun locations like used dungeon and maze-like woods.
Myst 3 does have someone though I won’t spoil when or where they appear but you can make them commit suicide by trapping them. Trapping them is just plain evil though.
Honestly, if I found myself in a haunted murder house, I would either grab anything I could use as a weapon and hunt some fools down, cry while barricaded in a room, or book it back to town quick as I could. You know what I would not do? Wander around aimlessly and try to solve the ghosty mystery
Hard to believe it's been over a year and half since Mark played this, because this series is one of the ones that stuck with me because it was unique and enjoyable to watch. I haven't watched it since then, but I get a feeling it won't be the same. The last year has been a step for me mentally. I got a job.
@@immaperson321 I'm rewatching too. I always feel weird when I rewatch old playthroughs of games and there are other people in the world also rewatching it. I was rewatching Jacksepticeye's LTOU 1 playthrough from a whole ass decade ago and there are comments I see that say "12 days ago" or "8 hours ago" it's like what?? People are also rewatching this? I like how it tells you that Jimmy is on the floor looking for you. Instead of the usual, where you don’t even know where the heck the killer/monster is. So instead of being stressed out about not knowing if your pursuer is near, it’s just tells you like “ yo, there’s a psychopath outside looking for you and there’s a good chance you might die”
The thing I like most about it is that, if this game didn't tell you, you might just happen upon a sudden jumpscare you weren't expecting. Which, sure, quite terrifying due to how unexpected it would be. But that means you don't have that TENSION, knowing that danger is, for certain there, and not just a needless paranoia. You know you're in danger, you feel the fear as you try to avoid that danger, and you don't ruin the fright of the game early by suddenly unexpectedly happening across a jumpscare death, to no longer fear it since you know what happens. The game relies on that constant tension of avoidance of death, so no longer fearing that death in the game, while inevitable as with most horror games, is especially preferably avoided as long as possible for a game like this. It's a great way of doing it, for certain!
Yeah dude it's been so long since I have been genuinely scared by a jumpscare in a horror game, like I legit got super scared like Mark 2 - 3 times during this video, I always love watching scary games but lately I haven't seen a genuine good indie horror game, and with Mark's commentary or gameplay it's even better like that, I am eagerly waiting for a second part.
Looking back on this gameplay a year later, I do feel kinda bad for jimmy (in the beginning). Being unhinged when you dont WANT to be is fuckin torture.... A lot of ppl that are fucked up in the head subconsciously lean into the psychotic breaks, but jimmy genuinely seemed to fight.... If his mother had gotten him the help he needed when he was younger, he may very well have been OK. Who knows? 🤷🏽♀
@@spiritscoffee6199 or his mom just wasn't really equipped to care for him. And it doesnt help that she had a baby with a psycho 🤷🏽♀ that she let him abuse jimmy for so long really does break my heart 😞
Think of it this way: Jimmy’s trying to get therapy in the UK. Take it from me, it’s pretty fucking bad right NOW. If we’re to assume that Dr. Bose was completely aboveboard then he’s definitely an exceptional individual as far as the NHS goes. Damn thing’s pretty much been so thoroughly gutted that they’ll take on just about any prick who can meet the hiring requirements, there’s so few adequately trained in such a field right now.

Not sure how many people will see this, but I urge you go pause at 0:52 and read the page there concerning Jimmy and DID. It addresses a worrying trend among media to paint people with DID as scary and dangerous, and I highly respect and thank the developer/s for adding this in.
Hey Mark! I still recommend you watch the tutorial, but here's the basic gist of things as well as some tips: - You are *safe* from attacks on the ground floor and basement, but floors 1-3 are the floors in which Jimmy will explore to find you. Additionally, Jimmy can't enter the elevator to jumpscare you, and he cannot enter the stairwell, so you are safe inside both of these areas as well (although on some floors the stairwell may be locked). - Jimmy *may or may not* be on the floor you're currently on - he will often have audible call-outs to let you know he is on your floor. Audio is very important, as it will vary depending on how far or how close he is. Sometimes you may see him peeking out at you from the other side of the hallway - in this case, run the other way and hide in a room. - You may get keys to certain rooms to lock Jimmy out - or lock Jimmy in. In addition, you may get keys to the stairwell. - Maya uses the scrying mirror to see where she needs to go next or what objects she needs from what rooms. - The compass interface pops up to point you towards spirits. In addition, lights will flicker in the direction you need to go if your next objective is to talk to a nearby spirit. The compass can be confusing at times, though! - The bathroom is a useful hiding spot because if Jimmy comes in and doesn't spot you, you can quickly leave the room and lock him in, granted you have the appropriate key to do so. - If Jimmy catches you, you usually lose all your keys (I am not sure if you lose your objects other than your scrying mirror, spirit box, and/or compass) and have to retrieve them from the store room. - **The tutorial does not tell you this, but the menu icon in the lower right corner will turn RED when you are in danger!** Please tell me if I missed anything :)
Yeah the sensitivity is pretty high in the game when it comes to turning, or I suppose that's just how it is lol. But yeah, turning gives me so much anxiety
This point and click style movement is genius, the way it relentlessly throws you forward and gives you no chance to go slowly into the rooms and hallways.
When I was a kid at school during computer class me and my friends would play scary games exactly this type of style, I’m so happy to see new games of this age with that same classic style of horror
@@Veratheprettiest same for me. I’d most definitely be like: ah, yes, the floor here is made out of floor. Very nice carpet, I must say. Mark: I have no idea what I’m doing. Tutorial: That must be really fucking hard for you. If only there was a tutorial before the beginning of the game. :I
Right!? I love Mark.. I do.. But WHY always skip the tutorial? Other ppl do it too. Is it to try to save time in the video, or is it just dumb pride? Because if it's to save time then that doesn't make sense... the 2 minutes it would take to watch a tutorial would mean next to nothing compared to the extra 30-40 minutes of running around not knowing what to do ... Sorry just frustrated 😆 I still watch every single video of his so.. I guess I don't mind that much.
It's because it enhances the experience. Jumping right into a game like this knowing exactly what to do would ruin the fun (for me at least) Mark likes to figure things out on his own. Mark is very open about saying what's on his mind since it's basically a RUclipsrs job to do so. "I have no idea what I'm doing" more or less means "I'll figure out what I'll be doing." Some people like to learn as they go, and others like to know what to do beforehand.
@@ronzology But the tutorial is awesome! It adds to the thrill of the experience your about to have, being it’s own mini horror show as it shows you how to manage yourself in the game. It’s 🔥.

OH! So that's why the out of order one says G cuz it's teaching you that it'll always show you what floor the elevator current is on and THAT'S why it's important to get the keys for the stairs! Dang, that's a pretty smart detail.
So frustrating, didnt even use the main mechanic of the game, didnt use the compass didnt pay attention when it pointed to rooms he went in and didnt use the radio man hahahaha
Considering the intro had no connection to ghosts, and he found the front door as well as a key that might open it - and we know for a fact the main character could walk between this hotel and a place with phone reception - I'll give Mark a pass here. In the real world, 911 tends to work in every country, so this would be over quickly.
@@shazzaisdabest1 He did try to use the compass multiple times as well as the “radio”. The thing is, he wanted to explore the rooms first. Which, imo, is pretty good to do in a game. Especially in a horror game. You want to know which halls are dead ends. Hopefully Mark will get used to the map soon and be sprinting through completing more of the story. Besides, the compass is finicky at best and he just happened to use the radio too early or in the wrong places. Leave him be for now and let him learn the mechanics.
I love watching this playlist 😂 i just imagine Jimmy is taking out the trash, cleaning common areas, switching laundry loads, folding sheets, filling out and filing paper work, checking the books for the monthly expenses, and finalizing and submitting an ad to be mailed out while maya/mark is sneaking through all the rooms scared jimmy is just around the corner 😂
In case he does a part 2, some helpful tips. 1. Be careful when you use the scrrying mirror. If you use it, it lets Jimmy know your location. The best place to use it is the ground floor, as Jimmy doesnt spawn on the ground floor. 2. If you see Jimmy around a corner, run. If you can, run to the elevator. He cannot enter the elevator, so if you can get there before he gets you, you will be safe. If you cannot get to the elevator, go into a room and hide in the closet. 3. You can only lock doors when you find that rooms key. This is useful as you can lock Jimmy in a room, which gives you time to run away or investigate nearby areas. When you lock him in, you have to lure him into the room and then hide in the closet. He will check the bathroom, and sometime pretend to leave and hide in the bathroom, and try to grab you on your way out. You have to wait until you hear him leave the bathroom, or run past before he can grab you. You then lock him in the room from the outside. This is why you have the call out to Jimmy button, to lure him into the room so you can trap him. 4. The screen will shake when he is near. Stand still and see if you notice it. Also, you can hear his foorsteps and also his breathing I believe. The circle in the bottom corner turns red when you are in danger. It can help you know when Jimmy is near. 5. The goal of the game is to find all the ghost , and figure out thier relationship with Jimmy. 6. You will get visions when you look in the scrying mirror, or as a hint to help you find the next piece of information. Pay attention to who you see, and what appears after them. Not all objects are used with all ghost. Not all locations are relevent to each ghost. Good luck! I hope this helps. Please do a part 2, the story in this game is amazing.
Imagine going to a music festival, and all your friends are drugged and kidnapped right in front of you, and instead of leaving and calling the cops you wander around the hotel for hours thinking about things to ask whatever ghosts may or may not be haunting this hotel. Nevermind my friends, the music festival, or the abduction currently occurring... I need to contact the dead and ask about those bottles of rum!

Every few months, I revisit this series. It came out during one of the worst parts of my life and it really helped me through it. I remember the old sofa I slept on as this video came out. I won’t go into detail, but those days were really dark. I didn’t know where my life would go or if I would make it through but I did. These videos make me nostalgic and introspective, but most of all, grateful. I know you won’t see this, but thank you Mark. You really helped me through some dark times.

Is no one gonna talk about at 0:52 when the developers actually acknowledged that this isn't supposed to be a game about the stereotypical murderer with Dissociative Identity Disorder and actually apologized if people saw him that way, plus included links and stuff and talked about what real DID looks like?? Good on them for taking a step towards acknowledging a trope in horror that's been wildly perpetuated and is extremely harmful.
The team who made this are incredible. If you find this game too scary to play, please consider their other game "Contradiction", a full video murder mystery
The game now has a disclaimer at the beginning usually, explaining that Jimmy is not supposed to have "multiple personalities" and they never intended for it to appear that way. They explain what is actually going on with Jimmy. As someone who has a disorder with "multiple personalities", I really appreciated that they cleared that up. This disorder has been demonised enough. (I added quotation marks because they aren't other personalities, they're different parts of 1 traumatised whole)

@@elsie8757
Spoiler alert.

Mark here some tips for the game... Hopefully those could help you:
-You don't have to watch every key hole before you enter a room
-Stay and watch more through the peephole before you leave the room
-Watch at every corner, if you see a shadow then Jimmy is there
-If Jimmy close to you, the three lines who are in the circle down right in your screen gonna be red
-Dont hide in bathroom if you are in the third floor cause most of times he could catch you
-There are some times that you have to stay still to trigger a cutscene and then you could be able to make contact with a spirit/ghost
-If you see lights flickering that means they could guide you to a ghost
-You are safe from Jimmy when you are in basement (LG) and ground floor and stairs
-If Jimmy catch you, you would find the spirit box in the first floor store
-Find all objects to make contact with spirits and make the story progress
-If you talk to a ghost Jimmy can't hurt you or catch you
-The elevator could give you hint in which floor you have to go
-You are able to lock jimmy in the room if you have the deadlock key of that room... That gives you some time to roam around freely

@Mom its like a new kinda scary, like originally the spooks are spread out but having this mechanic makes the spooks condense onto that floor :0
Sociopaths
The things that scare me escpecially in horror games is being perused and chased. Jumpscares are cheap scares nowadays.
Suspense will always be more impactful if the player, reader or viewer knows that something bad can happen

Not sure how many people will see this, but I urge you go pause at 0:52 and read the page there concerning Jimmy and DID. It addresses a worrying trend among media to paint people with DID as scary and dangerous, and I highly respect and thank the developer/s for adding this in.
Hey Mark! I still recommend you watch the tutorial, but here's the basic gist of things as well as some tips:
- You are *safe* from attacks on the ground floor and basement, but floors 1-3 are the floors in which Jimmy will explore to find you.
- **The tutorial does not tell you this, but the menu icon in the lower right corner will turn RED when you are in danger!**

Is it to try to save time in the video, or is it just dumb pride?
Because if it's to save time then that doesn't make sense... the 2 minutes it would take to watch a tutorial would mean next to nothing compared to the extra 30-40 minutes of running around not knowing what to do ...

Mark: Hasn't talked to a single ghost.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 0% COMPLETE?!"

Mark: Gah! Jimmy's looking for me and I cant find anything!
Ghosts: Should we help him?
Other ghost: Nah he skipped the tutorial... He deserves this
In case he does a part 2, some helpful tips.
