Total War: Shogun 2 Gameplay Information:
In the darkest age of Japan, endless war leaves a country divided. It is the middle of the 16th Century in Feudal Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Ten legendary warlords strive for supremacy as conspiracies and conflicts wither the empire. Only one will rise above all to win the heart of a nation as the new shogun...The others will die by his sword.
Take on the role of one Daimyo, the clan leader, and use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun - the undisputed ruler of a pacified nation.

ya, muito bom.
Alright big boss, I've created an in-depth analysis of every unit for you. Here we go!
General:
1. Portuguese General Unit (Captain-Major) - Beats any other General unit in the game, the exception being the Takeda one.
Spear Units:
1. Pikemen and Halberds get decimated by anything but Yari Ashigaru if left in anything else but spear square. If spear square is activated, then they will at least be able to kill some enemy units. However, they will still lose in a 1v1 with Katana Samurai.
2. Aventurieros will be able to withstand a Katana Samurai charge, however, they are a late game unit and a pain in the ass to maintain. Only decent Spear Unit.
Sword Units:
1. Merchant Crew are just cannon fodder, can't even beat Yari Ashigaru (but then again, if used incorrectly, not even Katana Samurai can).
2. Swordsmen are weaker than Katana Samurai, but can take care of Yari.
3. Rodeleros are the only good sword unit. Although the unit only has 60 men, it will be able to beat Katana Samurai. However, only 10 to 15 men will escape from the fray alive.
Crossbow
1. Besteiros are a really good early-to-mid-game unit. I think the stats might be bugged, because they can 1v1 any ranged unit except Bow Monks.
Gun Units
1. Tercos are the same as in the base game.
2. Musketeers are flipping life savers. If put on 2 lines and in kneel fire (modded in, I think), out of the 75 bullets that are shot, 50 will certainly hit. If charged at, They can fire 2 volleys at an infantry unit, and just 1 at cav. This is however, pretty much always enough to destroy said unit.
Cavalry (It must be stated that I never used anything else but the Mounted Arquebusiers in the campaign, so my knowledge on cavalry is restricted to Custom Battles mostly)
1. Mounted Arquebusiers are glorified Tercos with horses. Not useful in my opinion.
2. Demi Lancers are a bit more shit Yari Cav. I haven't performed the Lancers vs Katana Cav test yet.
3. Pistoleers are ok. They work just like Carbine Cav from FOTS, but with longer reload time.
4. Encubertados are the most badass-looking unit from the whole mod. They are kind of ok, as the only other shock cavalry in the game is Great Guard. Great Guard is still better, and Encubertados also cost a lot to recruit and maintain. Late-game unit.
Cannons and vanilla Kisho Ninjas
1. Ninjas are the same as in the base game.
2. Bombards act like 100% hit chance European Cannons. I would only recommend using them in... OFFENSIVE SIEGES. But you won't do that.
3. Culverins are something good to look at. As I've also stated on the previous video, They are FOTS Parrot Guns with less reload time, yet lower accuracy. And when I say low, I mean really low. Out of the 4 shots that are fired in a volley, only one will usually hit.

So all the units sound a bit "meh". Would it be a viable option to just focus on mostly ranged units and having pike units to be meatshields, much like how one would play the otomo or chosokabe?
HappyBacon It would be, if said units were actually able to withstand an actual charge. There are very few exceptions here, such as pikes in Yari Square, and Rodeleros. It can be done, but it's based on luck. A lot of it.
HappyBacon Because, unlike the Otomo and Chosokabe, you can't have a reliable frontline unit that is able to stall enemy units. This would be easily solvable by adding Yari Walls to the Pikes and nerfing them a bit for balancing issues. But then again, I'm just the guy who wasted 1 hour of his life testing units, not the mod creator.
That decision was made to make the units more unique. You can't just win like every other tactic in S2. I suggested the 'no pike walls' concept. It makes fighting harder, but quite beatable, once you use non-S2 tactics/crate new ones/do what I did and read stuff on Tercios.
The only problem is that S2 Japanese infantry combat is practically the same as contemporary European combat. Get Pikes, put them in the front. Get Muskets/Bows, put them so they can fire from behind the Pikes. Have Cav and Swordsmen as backup, or for a breaktrough. It's the same thing everywhere.

Advice from someone who already played a Portuguese campaign on this mod. Although artillery is usually not worth the trouble in the base campaign, I think the Culverins are Parrott guns ported from FOTS so they will dominate the field, even with decreased campaign movement speeds

If you want a mod thats like this but for FoTS, get Total FoTS. It adds the British, French and Americans to the Fall of the Samurai campaign.

I have spoken to both Izzi and Shark about it. You need to download the data.pack from the dowload section. Not just the Total FoTS.pack file. Izzi has modified the normal Shogun 2 data.pack file so *BACK YOURS UP*.
The problem is that I have both of them in my data folder.

encubertados means "covered (in armor)",besteiros means "crossbowmen",aventureiros means "adventurers",rodeleros are infantry with round shields,and if there is anything else in the mod in portuguese i'm glad to translate
I think you commented the same thing on episode 1. I think I recorded up to episode 4 or 5 before I even uploaded episode 1, so that's why I hadn't discussed it yet, but in episode 5 or 6 I talk about some of your translations.

They should of done a Portugese DLC but the again, they'll have be more of a... Normadic tribe or the Roman expendition in Atilla Total War
why not try to incite rebellions with your missionary? since christianity levels are so low in those towns you will even get very good chances and the ability to get experience for your agents...
Never been a big fan of that tactic. There's empty towns that require no effort to take and instead of just taking them I instead have the town revolt, spawning and army that I will then have to kill myself. Don't see the point. Either way, I've recorded a couple episodes ahead and I own the entirety of Kyushu already anyway.
OK, but seems I prefer completely different strategies ;). rebels are easy to destroy and it leaves your diplomatic standing intact (no unnecessary wars). both work. I know you record in advance but was curious since you didn't discuss and dismiss the idea in the video.
love your videos btw! Will you continue to do shogun 2 campaigns even though you have now done almost all regular clans and ashikaga and portugal? Will you continue with the small clans (mod)?
I won't be doing any more small clans, I think I discussed that in one of the recent Ashikaga Shogunate videos but I might be wrong. There's no real point in doing those, it's literally a faction I've already played in a different starting position. I will be using other mods though, overhauls and the like.
MrSmartDonkeyLP will you do master of strategy? if so which clan will you do first? I actually suggest the shimazu since they get an awesome gun unit at the start of the campaign that's overpowered but fun to use

There is a mod for Rome Total War that turns it into a Greek Hegemony Map. You can play as most cities, as Persia, as Carthage and as the Romans. Pretty awesome mod, think you could check it out?
Perhaps in the future, I'm not too interested in playing Rome 1 right now.

This mod should be a free LC from CA. I posted on forum TW this years ago, how they make "foreign traders" with the PT flag. When Otomo appear why has glad and think that soon, even if was not historical, we would be able to play as Portugal and Wako pirates. In my post is said that to play as Portugal we would have a system lika AOE 3 where according to the sucess of oour mission, the crown and/ or the pope would give us bonus like money, units or improved stats. The final goal as Portugal would be: become the Shogun, vassal of Portugal; become the emperor of Japan; convert all provinces to Christ. So during the game you would never change religion, but some times dilemas would appear and would have to choose between the king, the pope or yourselve. In terms of buildings a feitoria was a must, for the encampment i had a idea to make a mercenary camp, either to recruit japanese ronin, warrior monk, ... or other camp from Europe, Asia and Africa. Portugal took ronin to India and old Siam, so why not bring african spears, mameluke or war elephants to Japan? Nah, not having a bad day, just another day in the life of a RUclipsr. There are many people who think that they know what's best for my channel and tell me what I *need* to do. I'm sure he meant no harm, but when you get several of these types of comments a day, you start becoming a little less friendly in your responses. Although in fairness it was mostly meant in jest, I didn't mean to come across as passive aggressive. I was merely stating that most people enjoy the 30 minute episodes.

there's a mod that gives them Portuguese voices from Medieval 2, you should download that. Also zoom in on these units, we never get to see them up close

I'm not a big zoomer. I've covered this topic many a time on my channel. I don't play Total War games to look at the purdy graphics, I care about the strategy, and you can't strategize well if you're zoomed in on the battle. I understand you mean specifically in this case you'd like me to do it because they are new units, but I showed the units in the first battle, and I will show more once I unlock new units, but beyond that I tend never to zoom in during battle.

xtiyo100 cinematic wise I think the combat is beautiful and looks nice with close ups. Fall of the samurai seems to be amazing and I felt is way better than empire total war. campaign wise is also a challenge but mostly due to everyone declaring war on you. I still think its well worth full price tho so you should definitely pick it up from my perspective o.o
Attila and Shogun 2 are my favorite TW games.

To be honest, sadly I just enjoyed the first 7-10 houres from the only campaing I played, becouse what I like the most is the "learning time" and "new things happening", after that it was kind of boring, I can't say exactly why but I think mainly is becouse the samusari/ninja esthetics doesn't tell me much (I know I'm weird comparing to the rest of opinions).
To be fair I dind´t play fall of samurai and gun gameplay yet, so maybe thats the problem. I still want to give it a second chance.
My ranking would be: medieval 2, rome 1, rome 2, and Warhammer. With rome 1 I was surprise and started to like strategics a lot but with medieval 2 I felt in love playing with Spain.
I also know nathing about Warhammer but I use my imagination to like the world and battles, but the not settlement maps was REALLY mess up for a long campaing live, still great game. You probably will know this but if you like lord of the rings Third Age is your mod (for Medieval 2), and defenetly my favourite one on top of any game created ever (not kidding).

anyone can explain me why yari samurais are horrible?
They are the worst of all the infantry Samurai and can't win the 1v1 against any of them. Their strength lies in their anti-cavalry capability, but a Naginata Samurai, Naginata Warrior Monk, or Yari Cavalry can do that job just as well while excelling in other fields too. They just get outclassed in most regards by other units. They're also the only Samurai unit to lose to a Yari Ashigaru in Yari Wall.
hōruheCarerasu It makes no sense. They should be the best melee unit with no anti cavalry capabilities at all.

I think you marry them to some distant relative, it's just a way to get to diplomacy bonus, but unfortunately the woman doesn't stay in your family tree which I've always found a bit odd.
WALN Zell Alexander the great married three women. Also in certain periods giving daughters as *mistresses* was considered the next best thing to marrying them to get better relations with those that hold power.
