This watch is a true water Sports & Dressy every day watch that looks awesome. However; I hope Seiko makes them with Sapphire Crystal and Screw down Crown as well. Looking forward for the full and usual precise review.
Watching a Seiko 5 review on my son's 5th birthday today. I think the watches look really cool. These seem to be a response to the mod community with all the different variations. The price of $300+ is too high for hardlex crystal, aluminium bezel, 100 meters, etc... The only real improvement is the movement. The 100 meters is fine for us desk divers but I feel it does take away from something that is supposed to be a tool watch.
Great video! I have SRPD89 SRPD95 Great watches! I love them. But I do notice they have different Lume colors. And they're starting to come down in price.
It’s close to the Seiko vintage SQ150 diver. I bought it today for $212.00. I’m satisfied. I have divers for oceans days. Movie night with the wife? Yes the Seiko 5 sports is perfect!
The new colourways are great, and so are the drilled lugs and hacking/winding movement. The layout, logos and font on the dial are nice in my opinion. However, I still cannot get over the lack of a screw down crown and lume pip. I also don't feel a display caseback is necessary. Nice Monta though!
I guess the display back , different colors , etc is a way to attract new people. Most people will think its cool to see a watch movement and feel compelled to get an automatic watch. The screw down crown is a loss but meh
That is absolutely beautiful! I really like this and thank you for sharing. Cant wait for review. Love the case back, movement and the crown position! Wowzaa! My first look. 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻 Oh and who about the water resistance rating most do not go that deep anyway. Great first look!!
Initial reaction when I bought this was like wow, but interest only lasted about a few weeks before I realised it lacked any kind of long term interest, I paid $420(AUS) for a watch that now I don’t like.
Gotta disagree with that one...This has gotta be the best mid-range dive/sports watch out there. What exactly do you consider interesting if this isn't it?
Alex Chang ... I have a questionable relationship with some of my watches, at the time I wrote that comment, I wasn’t happy with my purchase of that watch at that point, but now I’m starting to enjoy it now more than I did before, I’m perhaps more pissed off in paying too much for that watch.
When you said that is not screw down crown I almost cry...but the overall look is same of SKX, so is beautiful. Question: it still can be modified with aftermarket products as the good old SKX? Thanks
Alex Angi. Doc.X I’ve since realized through reading that a screw done feature has nothing to do with how a watch responds to water or submersion. It’s a special feature that ensures divers won’t get other gear caught on their watch. That’s it. The threaded crown has zero to do with water pressure.
So is there 2 versions of this 71K2 as the seiko website shows it with blue dial and not this greyer dial version? I much prefer this grey! Its the same with the 73K1/2 being shown as black bezel and black dial on the website but the promo shot on the website at the top shows a black bezel and the same grey dial as this blue watch. I just wish Seiko would make it clearer on the website as to which watch is what serial number or at least say that there is 2 versions of dial colour for the bezel.
Very cool looking watch and I do love the bezel action (better than the Oris 65 for sure). The cream accent on the dial really contrast well with the dark dial. Great video!
did you ask the dealer about how it made? i am in KSA al Bawasir said the makina is japan but other parts is Made in china and sales goes down and the price is going up. but still saudi arabia has the very good in maintenance of its product when it comes in watches.
Excellent review. I think this is a great watch for the money. Not at all bad looking either. The only thing I'm not too thrill about is the logo and other prints on the dial--they seem a little gaudy and out of place, lacking certain cohesiveness. Cheers!
Bought one identical to this around 3 yrs ago when they came out ,, sold it around 4 months later , I only wore it twice , it didn’t press my buttons ,,, got shut and will never buy another , I sold my fairly new , two sky, just before they released this , they are asking silly money for them now ,,, stupid, I prefer the citizen diver with crown opposite side , I’ve bought 3 of those brand new , cheers shane uk 🇬🇧
Sometime, these watches will be extremely collectable, because are the first with the new seiko 5 logo,so all keep that in mind.Maybe im wrong but i believe this.
The new quintessential desk diver, that doesn't really dive any more. Love it or hate it, but it makes sense. And some of the color ways are really nice. Particularly in the suits line. And maybe the street line catches some kids into watch collecting. ;-)
Problem is, as the SKX replacement, it no longer has a screw down crown. At minimum, they should have kept it. This is why many are now saying the Orient Ray and Kamasu now takes the place of the SKX although Orient lacks the cool factor and desk diver bragging rights of ISO 6425 that the SKX had for around the $200 dollar price point.
@@TimeAndCrown Since the case looks similar, Maybe the SKX mod community will figure out how to install a threaded crown tube and crown from the SKX. It still wont have the bragging rights that the ISO 6425 SKX had at around the $200 dollar price point. And that superman looking logo is just hard to deal with right now.
I don't know why seiko doesn't make these Seiko 5 sports watches true diver watches only adding screwdown crown and solid back case because people love skx design in haking and hand winding movement
Hejsa kan se på avisen at du også er dansker. Jeg har selv fået mig et magen til, men jeg undre mig over hvorfor kronen ikke kan skrues fast til? Kan du give en forklaring på det
I like them, but they are not SKX replacements. They are not entry level divers because they are not divers. I know I'll never use my SKX as a diver , but that's not the point, I know it is a diver. Sounds mad I know, but there it is.
Exactly right...me too. I know my skx is authentic and ready for anything. That's what gives it credibility. It's why I'll probably sell my mako xl....somehow it's just bogus. This is not an offensive watch by any means but there's no story any more. They just want to keep using the tooling....downgrade it and increase the margins. A great shame. An skx is a nice more compact alternative to the turtle. They still need an entry level 200m diver in my humble opinion. The turtle is a little above that level.
@@dandyrayhan3970 Not everyone mods their skx though. I guess we are a rare breed but some of us prefer the function over the form even if we don't exploit its fullest potential. I will likely never go 200m underwater but it's nice knowing that my watch was built to handle more than what I will throw at it. With something like this 5 line though, it is more form over function, and I don't see the appeal in that, as I could never be as secure in its abilities as I go about my daily life. I was never personally on board with the skx modding because I like the pure skx look anyway.
Exactly… And it’s not like you can add the screwdown crown as a mod… The SKX is a dive watch that was easily modded...The 5KX can’t be modded to be A dive watch...
John Buckmaster it actually can the skx mods work with this new one too along with the case size too and you can get a normal skx case with the threaded crown and get a threaded crown and pretty much just get the movement out and put it in the new case and badda bing bada boom dive watch seiko 5 ;)
Sotan Hepho You could do that but if you replacing the case then what’s left… The dial hands and movement… You can buy that movement for 30 bucks And Seiko should’ve upgraded it years ago. One thing a lot of people don’t know is that the gaskets are smaller/thinner on the ‘5KX’ Probably because the movement is deeper(not sure why), And may contribute to the lower Water resist rating...But nevertheless if you’re replacing the case you’re spending far more money than starting with an SKX and Modding it to suit. Sapphire crystal, lumed bezel insert, hands(if you want), And even an S signed crown if you wish… You can do all that for less than 100 bucks...From what I see the case cost over 100 And then you still don’t have a crystal, hands… Etc...

If you pull out the crown by accident or you knock it and it comes out of the first position the water resistance rating is zero, Zilch, Nada... so now It’s just a dive ‘style’ watch That isn’t even a good sports watch…AND it still has the same crappy hardlex Crystal...

@@TimeAndCrown well thank you sir, I was scared that I ordered the wrong model) I watched this review so many times before ordering. Thanks for this video also.
Absolutely not the SKX replacement. It's amazing how people run with the case shape, yet glaze over the 100 meter push pull crown, the non-ISO certification, and the Seiko 5 logo.
I own one seiko chrono and love it but I’m like the looks of this new skx replacement but why not just give it a screw down crown I will still buy the 5 but will rely on my citizen eco drive pro master diver as a functional dive watch the seiko 5 with no screw down crown is like buying a v6 corvette lol but I’m now on the hunt for an skx!
Why is this an issue? Seiko makes plenty of diving watches. 27 different versions of this new watch drilled lug holes. NH36 Movement the watch is comfortable it has a see through case in the back if the prices drop below $150 I don't see why it would be an issue.
To be honest, the only thing wrong with this series of watches is the price. They want way too much for these watches. If they were $100 less it be a good deal.
@@jimmyv.495 So you're saying that there is a chance for price reduction over time? I'm looking forward to buy one but it seems too overpriced compared to the competitors.
@@jayxd466 yep I. Seiko has too many models and too many units. 30% off is the norm after 6 to 12 months. Fanboys are ocd and can't control themselves.
I find it interesting that you didn’t realize this is an UNBOXING/FIRST IMPRESSION. I state this numerous times. Maybe your daughter can help you find the FULL REVIEW I did on this watch?
The SKX was crappy as dive watch, why use that when an Aqualand has useful dive features including a rapid ascent alarm that would save you from excruciating pain and maybe even your life. The screw down crown does not seal against water pressure, that's done by the gasket. That's a good looking watch with those color schemes, the dark blue is a subtle touch and in general it's like a fun party watch lol. Kontrolsports on eBay has some striking combinations and I bought a first gen 7002 and am very happy with it but Seiko will take a bite out of the modded watch sales. Die-hard SKX fanboys may never accept it but IRL it looks like a good watch, just not a good value at this point.

The colors of it caught my attention quick!
The new 5 logo reminds me of Superman.
Yeah, really don't like that
It means hope

@@nilsmagwalt3410 It does a bit!
I bought the same watch yesterday on sale.
Beautiful watch!!!!!
How many seconds lost per day or minutes per month? Thanks a lot!!!!!
3 second per day
Very cool looking watch and I do love the bezel action (better than the Oris 65 for sure). The cream accent on the dial really contrast well with the dark dial. Great video!
Not clear the colors
Bisel is blue or black ? The sphera is black o dark blue ?
I am intetesed to get it now. After my doubts
did you ask the dealer about how it made? i am in KSA al Bawasir said the makina is japan but other parts is Made in china and sales goes down and the price is going up. but still saudi arabia has the very good in maintenance of its product when it comes in watches.
Excellent review. I think this is a great watch for the money. Not at all bad looking either. The only thing I'm not too thrill about is the logo and other prints on the dial--they seem a little gaudy and out of place, lacking certain cohesiveness. Cheers!
Never had a band like this before,I do like it.
Just bought the one with the white chapter ring same as you have there cheers shane uk 🇬🇧
I hope you will enjoy it :)
They just went on sale in Toronto Canada at the Bay for $281 .I am thinking of getting one.
I purchased mine on sale for $185 USD.
Do you have an Strapcode skx bracelets? I’d be curious to see if they fit
I have the 3D super jubilee but I read they don’t fit unfortunately.
I love this watch but I have a 6 inch wrist. I think it won’t look good on it.
Very cool watch. I love that strap
And maybe the street line catches some kids into watch collecting. ;-)
Is that the same bracelet with sea urchin?
I'm looking for an auto watch maybe seiko 5 superman.. Is it good watch? Why some models stated the day in roman numbers?
A big thumbs up for this one👍
I will buy it tomorrow
Also bought one. Love it
Rocking the SRPD71K2, nice watch
Does anybody got a Link to that black strap?
Thx
It's the factory rubber strap, not custom
Problem is, as the SKX replacement, it no longer has a screw down crown. At minimum, they should have kept it. This is why many are now saying the Orient Ray and Kamasu now takes the place of the SKX although Orient lacks the cool factor and desk diver bragging rights of ISO 6425 that the SKX had for around the $200 dollar price point.
If only Seiko had made the crown a screw down crown they would have made a lot of people happier with the new 5 Sports.
Best regards,
Anders
@@TimeAndCrown Since the case looks similar, Maybe the SKX mod community will figure out how to install a threaded crown tube and crown from the SKX. It still wont have the bragging rights that the ISO 6425 SKX had at around the $200 dollar price point. And that superman looking logo is just hard to deal with right now.
For me on the older models the biggest downfall was no hacking. Now that they have corrected this I feel like it’s a real competitor now.
does that creamy colour of the lume effect how bright it glows?
Hi Adam. The lume is great. You can see it in the full review - link the description.
Best regards,
Anders
I gave with tax on sale from a store here in the states at $245.00
I don't know why seiko doesn't make these Seiko 5 sports watches true diver watches only adding screwdown crown and solid back case because people love skx design in haking and hand winding movement
If it does not have a lume pip, the timer feature cannot be used in the dark, right?
Daniel JK right

Anders
@@TimeAndCrown mange tak for svar 👍👍
Is this Gunther Steiner from hass f1
What is the difference between k1 with k2 verson ??
K2 comes with robber strap whereas k1 comeswith steel. Rest all same.
This is an SKX alternative, not replacement. One’s a dive watch turned fashionable, this is a fashion watch in dive watch clothing.
You lost the dive ISO the moment you mod your SKX tho.
How is this different from 73K2?
The new Seiko Wellington 😁
P.S.- at the same price you buy Orient Triton, with better movement, sapphire glass, 200mt certificate , a real diver .
Where tf did you find a $160 Triton???
@@dandyrayhan3970 The Seiko of this review is sold between 280 and 300 dollars, the Orient Triton is sold between 350 and 400 dollars .
The Seiko SRPD71 of the review cost much more than 160
@@giusejab4948 it cost $170 in my country (for the one with fabric strap) and $230 (for the one with mesh strap), idk why it's so much more expensive in western.
@@dandyrayhan3970 on eBay the Seiko cost €250 , I buy a Triton for €320 .
But anyway, in my opinion, a diver with this price without sapphire glass is to avoid.
P.s. - my country is Italy
@@giusejab4948 www.jamtangan.com/jam-tangan-pria/seiko/ you could check out the price in my country there (in Indonesian Rupiah and you could convert it on google), it's the most reputable store here but it's actually cheaper in other local online store platforms, Orient Triton is around €280 here, probably the tax is higher in Europe.
Beautiful watch. Where did you say you bought it from? Thanks.
Iguanasell on Ebay have most of the 27 versions.
They look okay… I won’t be buying one… I have two SKX models And have owned 4. Modded them a bit and always through Sapphire crystals on them… They always end up on a nice aftermarket bracelet as well...I’m never buy a dive watch that doesn’t have at least a 200 meter WR Rating...Unfortunately most people don’t understand the water resistance ratings... it’s because they are misleading… 30 m water resistance is not what people think and you really can’t go swimming with a Watch with that rating... it’s okay to wash your hands with it on and probably won’t have an issue if you spill something on it… And that’s about it… 50 meter water resistance may or may not be okay to swim with… I learnt that the hard way with my Hamilton khaki field watch When I wore at White water rafting And although it was in water several times it never was below 6 feet...Obviously Seiko Upgrade a couple of specs(Movement, drilled lugs, Applied indices, and some color choices)...It’s no longer a dive watch though… Every dive AND sports watch should have a screw down crown. If you pull out the crown by accident or you knock it and it comes out of the first position the water resistance rating is zero, Zilch, Nada... so now It’s just a dive ‘style’ watch That isn’t even a good sports watch…AND it still has the same crappy hardlex Crystal...
I just ordered the all black one. Now all I need is this rubber strap because that nato is trash
Price?
Wish this model came on a bracelet.
Hi Tim. There’s one on a mesh bracelet. It’s also possible to buy an aftermarket bracelet from Strapcode.

Does this use the skx fat springbars? Thanks
Can you explain the difference between srpd95 and srpd73k2?
Robert Ryan Hi Robert. The watches are the same as far as I know. Seiko like to use different reference numbers for the same watches.

Very nice watch thank you for sharing
Check out the Brian May edition. This Queen rocks.
I just saw it on Instagram. It looks great!
Absolutely not the SKX replacement. It's amazing how people run with the case shape, yet glaze over the 100 meter push pull crown, the non-ISO certification, and the Seiko 5 logo.
I agree. The real replacement will come back under the prospex line with x on the dial and 6r movement... And cost a butt load more.
What’s the difference between 71k1 vs 71k2
Hi. The K1 has a mesh bracelet and the K2 has the rubberstrap.
Tell me how much time does the clock run away for a day?

Very nice colorway !
Actually did you know the original corvette was 6 cylinders? It was an inline 6
The first watch in your intro… isnt it the same one jesse pinkman gifts walter white in breaking bad?
Yes, the TAG Heuer Monaco.
It looks like an SKX mod . The strap must be awesome .
I really does, I think that was Seiko’s idea - that’t why they made 27 versions.
All i can say is that i want one
I like the new box....
The blackplate is black!?Other blue!?
It’s a very dark sunburst blue.
How’s the chapter ring and bezel alignment?
Surprisingly on both 5 Sports everything aligns. That’s not a given with Seiko unfortunately.
To me fashion sports , not replacement cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
How you can replace 200m water resistant to 100m?
Why is this an issue? Seiko makes plenty of diving watches. 27 different versions of this new watch drilled lug holes. NH36 Movement the watch is comfortable it has a see through case in the back if the prices drop below $150 I don't see why it would be an issue.
I have "shot" a SRPD65K3 (Gunmetal) with the same rubber for 179€.
It's good to see prices are going down to more acceptable levels.
thanks
Some more changes in the design and this model could be mistaken for a Blancpain fifty fathoms.
To be honest, the only thing wrong with this series of watches is the price. They want way too much for these watches. If they were $100 less it be a good deal.
They will be in a few months............if no one buys them.
35% off in 6 months. that is Seikos history

No Thanks. The new ones are 100m and not ISO. I will stick with the original SKX.
Yes, simply won't do for your desk diving adventures.
@@PK-mx7nfThere are many other watches i would buy if i wanted a "Desk Diver". Not an SKX.
Why am I not hearing the bezel clicking as you turn it?? Fashion sports watch.
