The Shining Man line is a reference to the fact that the main character was played by Jack Nicholson, who also later on played the Joker in Tim Burton's 1989 production.
Exactly
The heath ledger bar made me take my ear buds off and run 🤣
It's also a jab at Stephen King who hated Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining.
"You lost to a turtle who wasn't even a Ninja"
In the books, the kids had to get help from a godlike cosmic turtle to defeat Pennywise.
Which to me makes the bar hit a lot less hard
@@sunshui6114 Why ? Without that reference, there is no bar in my opinion.
@@esmeltorlath it's not a bar at all if you understand where the turtle from the Stephen King universe Compares. It is in the omnificent Celestial being that regurgitates galaxies. So the Ninja Turtle bar Falls a little flat
@@esmeltorlath put it on a scale. On the left-hand side a Ninja on the right hand side the God who made the universe and tell me which one makes more sense to lose to
@@sunshui6114 no
John Wayne was a HUGE star in Western/cowboy movies, and he usually played the good guy.
John Wayne Gacy was not only a serial killer, but was dubbed "the killer clown," because he worked as "Pogo the Clown," for children's birthday parties and charity events. He also owned a construction business, and was politically active, and considered a pillar of society. Most of his victims were teen boys whom he had hired to work construction. Police recovered 33 bodies from his property, mostly from the crawl space under his house, in the Winter of 1978-1979.
Besides his smiling mugshot, there are two other famous photos of Gacy. In one, he is dressed as Pogo the Clown, and holding a bunch of balloons. In the other, he was photographed standing beside First Lady, Rosalyn Carter.
“The Shining” was of course written by King, but the movie most people refer to and love was the one directed by Stanley Kubrick.
However, King was actually not a fan of the movie adaptation and later did helm a made for TV version (much like IT) that not a lot of people remember, so you were technically right about him making one.
~_~
Yep - and the whole "tell your author that I'm a shining man", given that we are referring to the jack Nicholson version, is an extra-layered dig, because how badly the Kubrick version, which deviated from King's book, is seen as a superior version to what King wanted portrayed, and just how badly its success pissed King off!
2:17 Jack Nicholson has played the Joker in the past, but he has also played Jack Torrance in "The Shining". :)
And both "IT" and "The Shining" were books written by King.
The 99 red balloons line was a reference to 99 problems BUT there is a son called 99red balloons that was originally done in German by a singer called Nena who later made an English version and it was also covered by a ska band called gold finger ( yes like James Bond)
Just realized I’ve been watching you for close to two years. Time flies. Hope you’re doing well, my man!
Joker won
Joker, every line was a Bar. ( At the start, he even said, every line stings.)
Penny had the stronger hits, but less hits overall.
12:30 The "underground clown posse, my flow's INSANE" actually WAS a pun on ICP! No need to second-guess yourself. =)
Ohhhh! Haha glad o unknowingly got that one.
@What It Do Dave,
"I'm a Shining man, wink" is a reference to the Shining written by Steven King. Stanley Kubrick directed the Shining. Jack Nicholson, who was in the Shining, was also our first Joker in movies. Joker is Shi**ing on Stephen King, BUT he's giving the Shining a pass because of Jack Nicholson, an actor who crossed over to both worlds. Joker isn't necessarily crazy. He's a criminal mastermind, genus who loves to wildly dangerous things.
John Doe is likely a triple, as John Doe is also a name Joker goes by. His real name IS unknown.
"You lost to a turtle that wasn't even a ninja." The Joker is making fun Pennywise losing to a turtle in the sewer that wasn't a ninja because TMNT are bad asses that live in the sewer. The Universe Turtle or whatever it's actual name is was teased in the movies, but I heard it played a much larger role in the books. If it weren't for the turtle, the children never would have been able to defeat Pennywise, apparently. The Turtle and Pennywise are enemies from a very long time ago, and they both existed before the universe it seems.
Bob Kane, the man credited for creating pretty much everything Batman for a very long time, failed to tell the world that Bill Finger helped him create a good deal of that world. Bill Finger died before everyone learned of his involvement and Bob Kane pocketed all the money and kept it all, I believe his whole life. Bill Finger finally got credited for his work in the Batman universe in 2015, just six years ago--Bob Kane died in 1998! Bill Finger died in 1974, poor and unknown. That's f'ed up, which is probably why what Joker said is so hard.
Stephen King wrote It when he was on drugs and he wrote an orgy with a group of 13 year olds in it...needless to say, Hollywood said HELL NO to that and it's never talked about in the movies. Joker has done some wild stuff, but making 13 years have an orgy: 6 boys and one girl--if the age wasn't disturbing enough for you =/
Nice to see you back on these =) I'm going to have to go back and see if you watched the two newest ones: Jeff Bezos vs Mansa Musa and John Wick vs John Rambo vs John McClane.
Yep both are done 😁
The turtle was the creator of the universe (god like) and was the clowns nemesis and the turtle helped the kids on how to beat him something like that
The turtle bar is a reference to the novel, it was never put into any of the movies
I watch a lot of reactors, but I think you're the only one who caught the visual reference to The Killing Joke. Neat detail.
Shout out to the Solo Leveling desktop background. I've read very few manhwas, and that one was a banger.
Aye! It’s fire and I stumbled upon it accidentally. I’m having a blast.
Tfw Joker dissed Stephen King more than Edgar Ellen Poe did
"... i leave scars, guards at arkham.." Bill Skarsgård played pennywise in the newer movie
It's referring to John Wayne gacy the serial killer, he was also a public performer called Pogo the clown
2:36 that's awesome, that's the kind of connections that get buried under the main reference, you know Jack Nicholson playing the joker and being in shining
in the book "IT", a space turtle was Penny Wise's enemy.
Like the clown said, "Joker Just Killed IT."
3:25 That's a three-parter! You got the "deer in the headlights" part, but there's also a part 2a and 2b. Not only does Joker have no fixed origin - he's a "John Doe" - but that name is given to unknowns _and,_ in certain situations (like say... an exchange of insults, such as a rap battle?), a way to say, "You literally don't matter; you're *nobody* to me." But, y'know, less wordy.
Also it's "John Doe in my deadlight's" in reference to the supernatural ability of Deadlights that Pennywise possesses!
and ALSO "John Doe" it's the name of the Joker on the Batman's Telltale Game Series
Also "John Doe" as in "unidentified male corpse"
I really fucken love that it made reference to insane clown posse and notorious B.I.G.
5:05 pog solo leveling background
The bars pennywise did have were mean and vicious and straightforward like that because that's how he is and the joker was rapping circles around him because of it
I'm sure someone has said it, but one of the Joker's nicknames is "the Harlequin of Hate." Which, to my knowledge, was a nickname given to him even before Harley Quinn came along.
So amazing
6:49 Your reaction was hilarious 😂😂😂
It looked like your brain just turned itself off. It was a very brutal line.
Harlequin was a pin worn by poes charachter in the cask of Amontillado, like you said deeeep bars! Love your content keep on it!
harlequin is also another name for a clown.
You said you've seen it 2 years ago and do have the wiki up, but either way you're the first one reacting to this out of over20 people that caught the killing joke comic cover reference
I’ve seen that movie recently and the cover art is unmistakable haha.
Fortunado is dressed as a jester for a carnival, and Montersor lures him into a basement and bricks him in alive. So it's less "I'll take revenge' and more "I will bury you, you clown".
Two of the Jokers Nick names are the Harlequin of hate and the clown prince of crime.
Bruh your pronunciations on the names, always make me cringe but it's also the same reason I always come back and enjoy myself 😂😂😂 Keep it up with you doing you. Also Happy Holidays to you and yours ✌️
Pennywise hit like a syringe, it's there it's deep, but all you need is a bandaid and you're fine. The joker was whacking you with a crowbar, no deep cuts but a lot of hits and gut punches
6:47 that bar go from 0 to 100 real quick
Jason Todd/Robin, is killed in the comic Death in the Family. Barbra Gordon is paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by the joker in killing joke.
I love a good Cask of Amontillado reference
5:06 YOOO! Dave is a Solo Leveling fan? That's pretty based!
BIG TIME.
On this episode from ERB is the battle between the two different clowns. NicePeter is channeling Mark Hamill's Joker whereas Epiclloyd is being Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise. NicePeter's Joker is inside of a comic book
The turtle was a cosmic God who held the earth on its back
Actor Caesar Romero refused to shave off his mustache so they painted over it
the Turtle references Maturin the Turtle. basically a God the vomited up the universe. He was Pennywise's rival and helped the Loser's club to defeat him. Maturin is also a beam guardian, magical beams hold up the Dark Tower. the Tower is what holds and protects all universes. The Dark Tower book series actually binds all of King's works.
"Pennywise likes the devil." Is a reference to Tim curry playing pennywise as well as a devil in the movie legend. Great movie!!
10:29 You're the only other person I saw pick that up right away! Only other person was a masked guy named Skeem! That's a bragworthy moment, bro.
Tim curry and bill skarsgård played pennywise 1980’s and 2020’s respectively
Man’s face went from 😊 this to this😳
Allow me to correct you on joker laughing he can't help himself but laugh
wait till you find out what hp lovecraft named his cat
Finally someone who agrees that the Joker won
Jack Nicholson played the Joker in Tim Burton’s Batman. He also played in the movie the Shining.
Jack Nicholson played Jack Torrence in The Shining and he also played the Joker in Batman in the 80's
Oh hell yeah! This is the one I listen to the most. SO ready for a Dave reaction!!!
Jack Nicholson played the Joker in Batman (1989) and also starred in The Shining, a Steve King book that was then adapted into film.
Not John Wayne. John Wayne Gacy. He was a serial killer who dressed up as a clown. He targeted young male teenagers and has about 43 murders to his name.He earned his name The Killer Clown because he was a birthday party clown who did a lot of shows in his hometown.
Jack Nicholson played The joker in the first Batman movie
Mark Hamil voiced joker in the 90s cartoon
Well Steven King wrote shineing man and he played psycho in movie and joker in batman movie
Way late to this but to clear it up. Steven King did write The Shining. In the movie, the man character who went crazy and tried to kill his family was played by Jack Nickleson (spelling), who also played one of the earlier versions of The Joker. (Yea, you basically said that but it was really hard to try to understand what you were talking about exactly.)
skarsguard played pennywise in the new IT
Stephen King wrote the book, 'The Shining'
I'm really curious about what your shirt says, Dave!
The turtle and gang bang scene are both from the book. If you have to do a re-reaction to some of these. Do a little research first. The knowledge you gain from it will make for better reactions for your fan base. It will also increase your enjoyment of reacting to these videos.
It IS an Insane Clown Possee joke BTW
10:26 Skarsgard played Pennywise, not Joker
You guys do realize he has done this one already right?
Heath Ledger died after having having played the Joker
6:48 That's the face of a baby being startled out of a nap by a loud noise 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Don’t have much to say, but I hope you have a great Christmas (or whatever you celebrate)!
Some reactors say that pennywise won but I agree with you; I just don’t see how anything pennywise does beats all the punches that joker gave.
Joaquin Phoenix was the Joker and won his Oscar for Best Actor by playing him
Pennywise got beat by a turtle in the book
epiclloyd did not break character till they took his makeup off and neither nice Peter that is creepy
Guess you don't know 6to 9.Bomb.
His.... 😆😆
Stop, feel evil.
Dave, firstly thank you for giving us fun content to enjoy, have to disagree though Pennywise won as soon as the Heath Ledger bar came out!
good vieo
Sorry, still scared, But It wins.
Pennywise won, he makes the joker look like Bobo
Thanks for the ❤️, much appreciate 👍🤘
But Pennywise wishes that he could cater for Art The Clowns house parties🤘😝🤘
Love the content but just gonna throw it out there that you can study up on what you are watching before doing a reaction to it. Like not watching the video but just knowing who is who so you aren’t so clueless on like 25 different bars.
Yet another
As said penn wins.
The Heath Ledger bar is a point for Joker, IMO. The character is so hard-core that someone actually died after playing that part.
Joker wins by a good bit....at least to me.
4:48 Ugh, it was a whole thing. I've only seen parts of the mini-series and gotten cliffs notes for the book, but there's a giant space turtle that is IT's sworn enemy, and it teaches Bill how to perform the ritual of Chüd (I'm adding umlauts because it's apparently pronounced like "chewed" and not..... well, "chud") to defeat IT, which is basically like battling someone in your imagination. Works for a book, not so much an action movie lmao.
"Harley Quinn" was a play on "harlequin", which in itself is another type of clown.
*BONUS:* Look up "Harlequin Ichthyosis" if you never wanna sleep again!
Scarey. watch.
