I agree with what others have said. The Silmarillion would need to be broken up into a dozen movies to do it justice. In the mindset of making money to get a green light, he should start with Turin. No tale is more tragic and emotional and it has a dragon whose pure evil spirit makes Smaug look like a house cat. Then he could follow up with Beren and Luthien.
We all saw that video Peter made where he had the book sitting there on the table. That was just another example of Peter's amazing sense of humor. Neither he or Warner Brothers has the rights to the book and probably never will. Most of us had a good laugh over it knowing why Peter did it.
Well Tolkien State allowed some parts of the Silmarillion (like names or references) to be used in the upcoming Season 2 of Rings of Power Amazon Tv Show and dont forget "The Silmarillion" will becoming public domain in 2047 they will want to sell it before that date to get some good money ...Greed is king , Tolkien wrote about "Dragon's sickness"! Still, I would rather Peter be involved instead of Amazon... or anyone else for that matter! At least he cares about the material. I'm excited to see what the future holds!

I don't disagree that the right could be sold in time. But 23 years is a long time to barter and $2 billion is crazy. If they paid a quarter of that price, we're talking $500 million. Saying that if those movies are made to the quality of Peter's first three Lord of the Rings movies they will more than pay off.
The Silmarillion contains virtually unlimited story lines. Even three movies would barely scratch the surface. Perhaps one movie revealing that universe, and then start filling it in one movie at a time.
Was about to make the exact same comment, lol! My God, there is SO MUCH in just that ONE story! In my opinion the Tolkien Estate will not sell the Silmarillion. The Estate has been releasing books over the past ten years covering in detail large portions of the Silmarillion. These expansive books (for example Beren and Luthien, The Children of Hurin, The Fall of Gondolin, The Fall of Numenor) could individually be sold for Billions. Why would they sell the rights to the Silmarillion in this context? They would be foolish not to take advantage of all of these pieces published separately. After, they then could sell the Silmarillion which in theory would then limit what a movie company would want to actually cover.

As much as I love Peter Jackson's take on Tolkien's works, I really am not up to have my hopes dashed yet again. After what he did to Saruman and Grima's characters in The Return of The King, and then joked about how maybe one day we'd get some extended stuff where Grima actually said "you made me do it" to Saruman, no way. He'd just make everything over 4 hours long and still extend it and leave half of it how later, just for a cash grab.
I’ve read it four times. Not sure if 10 films could do it justice. Think of an abridged version of the LOTR that’s told in 30 pages. That’s basically what each story is in the Silmarillion, a bunch of epic abridged tales that span thousands of years. To do it right, would take constant changes in characters and ideally multiple seasons of a top quality network production (each season basically covering one chapter and varying in length). I’m not sure any production studio would be down for this.
I think if you do what I explain in the video - Follow Feanor and the events after him all until the 3 jewels ....Spoilers.... it is enough and then solo movies of the other stories.

It's fine by me! make a lot of "smaller" movies and then big movies, as long as they are part of the Tolkien world and have the quality of Peter Jackson!
I think six or nine films should be enough to tell the story of the Silmarillion because i can't really see it be adapted into a trilogy, given how many stories were told in the book.
In the video I explain that you should make a trilogy about Feanor and his family. And then several solo movies with the other stories. Its the most realistic way.
I agree with others who say it should only be a chapter at a time, like Beren & Luthien for one movie, The Creation of the Silmarils and Darkening of Valinor for another, and so on. Or a series, of course, but for all that's holy NOT NOT NOT by those clowns at Amazon!!

It would be amazing to see even some of the Silmarillion stories come to life on film but its themes are just too dark and controversial (almost Pagan). Heroes actually dying (and being okay about it); the goodies losing badly, characters whose goals are ambiguous, treachery, incest, slavery, betrayal (as if it had just come back into fashion); the list goes on. No way will Studios let that be seen by the terribly fragile audience who pay their salaries and what is the point of making them if proper adult themes can't be explored?
Embracer Group & Warner Brothers need to have a big franchise again to make big money after years of loss & decline... So they have gone ahead & announced something small to start with, which will show them if the franchise is still the money-making profitable franchise it was back in the early 2000s (testing the waters) when they are happy enough with the results they will / should announce the Holy Grail of a massive trilogy again by Peter Jackson like they did back in the early 2000s their big money maker 🙏 💕
the problem is audiences. if warner pushes peter Jackson to write a movie suitable for audiences that have only watched the lotr and hobbit movies and the movie is gonna feel meaningless. i'm sure all of us who read the unfinished tales will just go to the movies as soon as it debuts, but most audiences... perhaps not. i think warner is betting on Jackson's name leading people to the cinema, not the actual story. they needed characters from the lotr and hobbit movies, so the war of angmar wasn't the best choice. the gollum story brings back thrandui, aragorn, gandalf, and if we are lucky even sauron and saruman if peter jackson wishes to portray that integral time of the third age
The Silmarillion? Challenging. The other stories were better. I mean, the Silmarillion was a good background to LOTR, but there's precious little Sam Gamgee-style wit and wisdom in Silmarillion. The Hobbits were the natural "audience insert" characters to the epic tale that the audience could relate to.
Each of his movies (fellowship, two towers, return, unexpected journey, desolation, five armies) are getting further and further away from the story in the books. If he continued that trend over 3 or 4 more movies, it could end up like Rings of Power. As much as I LOVE the movies, Tolkien would be turning in his grave at the thought.
I realy hope that it is not beyond the reach for PJ. I realy hope for a proper approach to Numenor storyline as long TV show, and for Children of Hurin epic movie :) I m most angry about what Amazon's production had done with Numenor and with hobbits. :(
Your making it seem like they will make a Silmarillion adaptation without any proof. Just your theory. If done right, the Silmarillion as a book is impossible to adapt.
i would rather watch Jacksons version of simirillion, although some of LotR was well off book, he kept true to the spirit of the work, other simirils just do not glow with the true light of valinor
all i have to say is that he better tighten up, fly right, and jettison the woke bullshit that made 'the rings of power' such a disaster'. good luck to him.
Thank you for your comment! The book of The Silmarilion is not directly possible to transfer to a visual format. Peter Jackson thought the same about the LOTR trilogy and he made changes accordingly. They can focus on Feanor like I stated in the video, the gods can be without form (wind, storms, sea waves ) for example. They dont need to make everything, they can make a prologue scene of the creation of the Vallar by Eru , the initial conflict of Morgoth destroying mountains etc..and then the awakening of the elves and men. and show the creation of the dwarves. THEN start the movie.
@@ForFrodoOfficial I can’t disagree with what you said. Sadly audiences are addicted to relatability rather than the thoughts and philosophies that made his work great. For example: when Gandalf said the words “ enough blood has been spilled” concerning Saruman…. Several of the audiences I’ve been in over the years have groaned at that and cheered when he was eventually shot. This was not Tolkien’s intent and I’m not talking about literal translation. I’m talking about intention.
I’m sorry but no. They don’t have the rights. The tiny bits and pieces given to the ROP show is trivial at best. The stories are known only a fraction as well as the LOTR and wouldn’t be well received, just like the book wasn’t. And it would crap all over Amazon which however satisfying, would be blatantly disrespectful professionally.
I mean I would really like to belive this but it sounds way too good to be true. I do not think it will happen soon. For now this is only a theory, but who knows?

LOTR movies, The Hobbit movies, even that sad atttempt from Amazon with Rings of Power, weren't that bad to someone who's never read ANY OF TOLKIEN'S MASTERWORKS, and most of average fans will like it, but Oh My GOD imagine the Storm and backlash from us real, true fans... hear me out, make it into a film series, 6 to 7 films for a book, for most readers would take 7 to 12 days to read, id be happy with that.
Audiences sadly enjoy surfing elves and dwarves as comic relief…so Silmarilion? Morgoth? Eru?
Doubtful.
I did it for Frodo.
FOR FRODO!!! For the Fans!!
😍😍✅✅
@ForFrodoOfficial Dude, as an one Tolkien fan to another you have my respect and hat down for what you're doing or at least trying to axcomplish.. As for your wild guess and speculation, sorey for saying it BUT IT'S just a speculation and a wild guess, see fattie(Peter Jackson) and WARNER BROS. can't do The Silmarillion BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHTS for it, The Tolkien Estate STILL HAS IT and they'll never sell it out... That's for one, and second BUT NOT LEAST, The Silmarillion itself IS HUUUUGGGGGEEEEEEEE, the wold, characters, story & plot lines, I don't think there are movie makers, directors, actors, studios, equipment, ITC Technologies, WHATEVER, up to the level of portraiting The Silimarillion to the level that book deserves... It'll be such a disaster that neither Jackson nor WB or any other parry of that endevour would recover... And they know it, that's why they're taking smaller but safer and secure steps with somerhing simillar only small size scale like that thing with new upcoming Gollum movie...
Very Kind of you! Well Tolkien State allowed some parts of the Silmarillion (like names or references) to be used in the upcoming Season 2 of Rings of Power Amazon Tv Show (and will keep doing it in further seasons) This shows they are willing...and dont forget "The Silmarillion" is becoming public domain in 2047 they will want to sell it before that date to get some good money ...Greed is king , Tolkien wrote about "Dragon's sickness"! It will happen! Peter Jackson wouldnt accept to return for solo movies only trust me! About HOW to Make the Silmarillion I explain in the video - Focus on Feanor story with a trilogy and then solo movies about the other stories. FOR FRODO!
That's the chunk of The Silmarillion one needs for a movie trilogy--the revolt of the Noldor and the war against Morgoth. The rest like Beren and Luthien could be single movies or miniseries.
mmmm i feel like this is wishful thinking
As a Catholic I am not waiting for Tolkien to be canonized and say: '"St Tolkien Pray for us!
I hope The Hunt for Gollum is a trilogy that strays away from the book and introduces characters and story lines no one has ever heard of.🤞🤞🤞
It's because no one watches CNN anymore
