Using the Portable Washer/Dryer

  • For five years, I made-to with an irregular washing machine in my ground floor flat. I've since moved on to another property (and I now have a conventional washer/dryer) but I thought it might still be useful to make this video. There are plenty of these machines available to buy from places like Amazon and someone may find it useful, if not everyone.
    The model that I purchased (branded 'TecTake' is no longer available. However, this one looks fairly similar in its operation: amzn.to/2y8aqbS
    All comments and questions are welcome. I still think they're a reasonable short-term budget option for single people, as long as you don't mind the extra graft of filling and draining

    I like how your tub is big. I had a different model with the twin tub for about 2yrs and ended up recently buying a small automatic portable washing machine and I love it so far

    5 years you used it? That was a good long time!

      Thanks, yep, it lasted much longer than I'd anticipated for a £90 product.

    After I had my machine for a few months I was finding it very frustrating how labor intensive and involved it was. Almost made me want to give up and drag my laundry down 3 flights to use the coin op. But I found it was much better to use while doing other chores instead of having to keep getting up while youre trying to watch tv. And I switched out the drainage hose with another one from the hardware store as that always seems to be the first part to go.

      Glad to hear that you found a better hose that was compatible. I often thought about this myself but couldn't find the right size.

      Does the spinner filter work well? I don't want dusty clothes.

    • @OllyParryJones

      I'm not sure I understand. Are you thinking of using the dryer to only remove dust from clothes?

    Using it like that is not the way. I tried it for 2 days and couldn’t hack it. I bought a Rinseroo and use it in the bathtub. A total game changer.

    How clean is that? It looks like the washed clothes are still soaking wet with tons of detergent in them??

    I bought the same because I wanted to get rid of a conventional washer/dryer since they only survived two years, but a cheap one is already like 250 Euro... >:(((((( Now I am happy with this one... because I can add laundry in case I forgot something and it needs less water and energy :)

    How would you use a softener with this? Just run another cycle with new water and softener?
    And does it wash bedsheets?

    • @GehtEuchFckn
      @GehtEuchFckn 4 года назад +1

      I drain the water, give the laundry a spin, put it in again, add fresh water with softener... Yes, you can also wash your bedsheets and even small carpets in it.

    • @OllyParryJones
      @OllyParryJones  3 года назад

      Hi, yes, I would drain it and then run a second cycle for fabric softener. It's what the instructions implied. I hope that helps.

    • @OllyParryJones
      @OllyParryJones  3 года назад

      Also, yes, I was able to clean double bed sheets in this machine but only one at a time and with nothing else in the drum.

      Thanks for the replies! I have a tiny 2 bedroom apt, and I hate the smell caused by the washers in the basement. 10+ families various detergents, and smells Al combines into a weird smell. This might be worth a try, then!

    That's interesting Olly. It's just like the twin tub my mum would use when we were very young. Well, hers could take a lot punishment so to speak. £90 not bad though. Hope you're well. Mark

      Hi Mark,
      I would receive a lot of funny looks (all harmless) when I ever I had company over. But it did serve me well for five years. I don't particularly miss it.
      All good here, thanks, just taking it easy. All the best to you.
