Angela, I didn't know about the Murphy oil soap to clean my cupboards that look just like the ones you showed cleaning,,,same style and colora. . I used Lysol kitchen cleaner and the second time I prayed it on to clean the silverware drawer, the shinny finish turned dull and seemed to roll off when I used a dry towel to wipe off the Lysol. Now I can see where the finish is gone period and looks bad. What can I do to bring back the shine and luster. I think the whole kitchen cupboards have lost their luster and really looks dated now. Help.

@@AskAngelaBrown That's the first thing I thought, "WOW, this lady is very thorough".
I have a job of trying to clean up a rental unit for the owner, her previous tenant had a "BUNCH" of cats, when she got sick and went in the hospital for awhile. The owner had to gather them up and take them to the humane society, but being left unattended the damage was already done. There is cat feces all over the wood floors and the smell is very bad, there is also fly feces all over the place especially the ceilings/lights/fans. The owner wants it cleaned it up, so she can get a new tenant in there as soon as possible. I'm the handyman/maintenance guy, not a cleaner.
Do you have any solutions to combat this nasty/horrible situation? Please help...

I really like that you give the safety data and recommend gloves and goggles. A few years ago I was cleaning the floor with Murphy's oil soap and unknowingly had the sprayer backwards and sprayed it in my eyes the product stings like what I couldn't believe and I was instantly blinded. After groping my way past the dog and down the hallway to the bathroom sink, flushed my eyes under the faucet until I was finally able to squint enough find the number on the label and call their Poison Control Center. I still remember the lady's voice that answered the phone because she was terrific. She told me just keep rinsing I think for 20 or 30 minutes and then my eyes would be alright. It was extremely extremely painful but my eyes are perfectly fine now and I appreciate Murphy's Oil Soap and their hotline!

This is absolutely game changing. For reference, I painted our wood kitchen cabinets a creamy white by hand a few years ago with Benjamin Moore Aura paint. Loved how they turned out but had no clue how to clean them and was fearful of ruining my many hours of hard work and expensive paint. Using Angela’s second method made them beautiful again without damaging the paint finish. I used the white (softest) brush overall and the small yellow brush in the grooves. The Murphy’s premixed bottles smell incredible. Smells so much better than the concentrate, which is a wonderful product but the smell isn’t nearly as good. I’m going to get so much use out of this brush set and cleaner. Thank you! 🙏

I love Murphy’s Oil Soap. I love it to clean out drawers, spot clean walls, cabinets, walls, doors and the list goes on. Been using it for over 50 years. Didn’t live far from their plant in Medina Ohio. But, I’m sorry, Murphy’s is NOT a grease cutter. I’m sure it would eventually clean the icky, but that’s a lot of scrubbing! If cabinets are that bad, it’s time to bing our ammonia! Boom, you’re done with one wipe. Then go over with Murphy’s for that great fragrance and shine.

What a lovely thing to say. Thank you. For the tops of the cabinets you don't need to use a drill brush and if you fry foods, cook bacon or smoke in the house you will most likely have some black tar up there. Standing on a step ladder that allows you to reach the top you can use some paper towels and Krud Krutter Original Degreaser/Cleaner Concentrate amzn.to/31srwvp to cut through the grease and icky stuff we usually find up there and then toss out the paper towels when you're done. You don't want that stuff going through the wash on a cloth. LOL. :-) Let me know how it goes. :-)

I discovered murphy's oil soap a year ago when i needed to clean a condo i am renting out. My mom loved it so she bought herself a bottle. We actually also used it for the greasy kitchen range hood metal pieces which was sticky with icky greasy and came right off too. So this is such a discovery that cleaning day.

White vinegar works. I moved into a flat with a horrible old kitchen with years of grease and nicotine stuck on the kitchen cupboards and worktops. Ugh! The landlord didn't get it clean before I moved in.
I tried to use a dedicated kitchen cleaning product with very hot water and a scrubbing pad. After working hard for some time, my joints flared up and the cupboard I was working on still felt tacky :(
Then I decided to try using vinegar - it had worked to remove sticky residue from sale stickers on a new pine chest - and it was amazing! It cut through the hardened grease, almost like magic!
I then used an antibacterial cleaner over the whole kitchen.
I bought a rechargeable battery cleaner brush that spins like the drill bit brush. I haven't used it because I was worried about spraying water everywhere. But after watching this, I'm going to give it a go!

Im 56 now but when i was young i spent a lot of time with my grandmother. She used Murphys oil soap for all her cabinets and woodwork. Her house had stained wood trim and walls. As a kid she would hand me a small bucket and rag with Murphys in it. My job was to wipe down all the trim in the house. I remember hateing to clean the stair railings as they had tiny little nooks and crannys carved in the railings! Lol! My grandmother was a stickler for haveing a spotless home. I know your familiar with the expression, "clean enough to eat off of" well i honestly believe we could have eaten off her floor as it was always that clean. Lol! 😊 ive been nicknamed "Mr clean" by my family and friends. I give my Grandmother credit in giving me this attribute! 😊

Love this!! 😊Thank you for sharing your cherished memories of spending time with your grandmother and her meticulous approach to maintaining a spotless home. It's heartwarming to hear about the special bond you had with her and the shared cleaning routines you experienced together. The use of Murphy's oil soap for cleaning the cabinets and woodwork, especially the intricate stair railings, brings back nostalgic memories. It sounds like your grandmother's high standards for cleanliness left a lasting impression on you, earning you the nickname "Mr. Clean" from your loved ones. It's wonderful to acknowledge the positive influence she had on your attributes and values. May her legacy of cleanliness continue to inspire you in your own home and beyond.

@monkeygirl000 *Dont use a green scotch sponge on glass. Just sayin' they are impregnated with metal.*
I love what the melamine sponges do. They are amazing. Just learned not to use it on my beloved Toto toilet seat, swirl marks!
I was about to ask about a much used toaster oven. Like you, it cant hurt because it is pretty grungy. Anything would be better.
I think true porcelain coating would not be harmed? Could the enamel paint I messed up on my fridge have been softened by oils or a cleaner like 409? Before I take the fridge to the curb, I am going to experiment with the sponges.
Have they ever damaged painted wood surfaces?

@Sunny girl 87 I learned that the hard way. I ruined my toilet seat with an eraser sponge.
I have used Murphy's oilsoap on wood and love it.

@@shirleyens7707 Thank you. People argued with me about it. But now that I think about it, I jave a plastic seat. Some are coated fiber board and may not scratch?

Those eraser sponges will permanently etch glass like windows. It turns from a clear to a frosted white in seconds and there is no going back. So I’m not surprised it ruins softer items like plastic or resins. Always read those directions and precautions it’s worth the time.

@@boopeep9670 I had no idea they are gritty enough to damage glass? That means they could wear down enamel or glaze finishes, eventually?

Citrol works very well too. The best part is it can be used on literally every surface. Also works great to get tar spots off your car.

I LOVE my drill brushes! Don't know how I went without them until now. It's ao satisfying to see the gunk go away that quickly. My kitchen cabinets have never been more shiny. Thanks for the great tips!

Hooray! They are really great for so many things too, we use the white one to apply leather conditioner to the furniture, and the red one for the window ledges on the brick outside where the moss grows, the yellow one in the showers around the grout...so many uses and they save so much manual labor. LOL. I don't know what I did before I had mine either. :-)
