Did you notice how Stevie never phoned it in, even for a soundcheck? When he picked up a guitar, he was 100% there. He stated many times that his philosophy of guitar playing was "I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it. Floor it is the technical word."

Something to realize is that SRV and his band Double Trouble are giving a performance in a sound check that is better then many other bands playing before an audience. The band is playing this sound check as if there's an audience out there, always on!

I was 19 yrs old the first time I saw Stevie play live at Riverfest in St Paul, MN in 1989 (the Stray Cats opened for him.) The audience was provided with wooden benches to sit on, but nobody was sitting during that show! We STOOD on the benches, bouncing up & down on them so hard I though we'd break them! The 2nd (& last) time I saw him play was also at Riverfest on July 30, 1990. A month later (August 27, 1990) he was gone. That night there was an amazing lightning storm & I could only imagine that it was Stevie & Jimi jammin together. I cried for 3 days straight when he died. Now, almost 30 years later, I still sometimes cry when I hear him play, especially "Life Without You." God, I miss him!

Bro in 1984 I watched STEVE RAY VAUGHAN In concert!!! He came to Hawaii like a Hurricane!!! So this is my brief recollection of Steve! Mind you I was little hammered! I was down at the beer garden standing in line waiting to grab a couple of beers, than about 20 seconds onto he’s first song I said holy shit who is this guy slinging it!!! Got out of the beer line and ran!!! Back to my sit!! So that was my first experience with SRV I mean he blew me away!!! My opinion best guitarist that walked our planet!!! RIP Steve there will always be a special place in my mind and heart for you❤️

Not sure how many times I’ve watched this vid, but you’re reaction is one of the best. I met him in ‘87 when he came through Louisiana for his Live Alive tour. I had an uncle that was a Cajun French musician and knew Tommy Shannon from his days with Johnny Winter. I was very young and couldn’t appreciate it yet, but he was a pleasant person and a total star. I really didn’t know who he was, but could tell he was important just by his presence. Thanks man. You get it.

Stevie Ray Vaughn gets up in the morning, puts on his snakeskin boots, his 10-gallon hat, and his leopard skin coat, gets in the limo and goes to the gig for sound check.
Gets to the sound check, scratches his balls, farts. . Puts on guitar, yawns, picks his nose and then proceeds to DEMOLISH THE STADIUM!
    Not even a "1. . 2. . 3" count-in to start playing. . . Just BAM!
Plays better for a sound check than most "musicians" could ever hope to approach in their LIFETIME!!!
