I just discovered James Spader through the blacklist and I cannot get over him. I've been checking everything he's been in from shows to movies and my god this man is breathtaking. Its actually creeping me out how much I am drawn to this old man.

Jan 2024. I met James three times at the studio and on location when he was on The Blacklist. He was so nice to me and so patient when I talked to him. Memories I treasure.

I believe it's a game he plays. He seems to enjoy derailing interviews :) It's one of the most authentic people I have ever seen, not changing like ever. He is the same as he was 20 years ago :)
I absolutely love HOW James remembers things. That's what makes him so engaging to listen to. He remembers details about his experiences that are different from other actors and he does it vividly.
You can see he was getting very comfortable by the end, I wish this interview had been longer ☹️
He said he has severe OCD which helps him pay attention to details. So it helps him out on the job particularly.

Reddington is Spader. I believe Spader does much of the writing for Reddington and James includes his own personal quirks into the part. If you love Reddington, you love Spader.
Like someone else said a year ago on this thread, I just discovered James Spader a few months ago. I binge watched 8 seasons of The Blacklist and was totally fascinated by him. I think he is an amazing, superbly talented and unique actor. He is also, not surprisingly an unusual guy as you can see in this interview. He appears to not particularly like the interviewer who is trying VERY hard. Nonetheless it's very interesting how he doesn't bother to go along with the question at all if he doesn't feel it. It sort of reflects the way he plays Red Reddington. Nonetheless I found this interview very well worth watching.
I absolutely adore this guy. How he articulated himself, the timing, the choice of words, and the humour. Just amazing to watch and listen to him.

The Practice was my childhood show -all 8 seasons. Alan Shore was unique and I liked his role.. his closing argument against the main firm when he is in court against them is one of those that I've memorized in my brain.

It shows the character was kinda written to fit HIS actual normal self..thats why the two seem to gel
"SuperNova" is one of my favorite Spader films. His character was extremely well written and developed. James killed his portrayal ... ^v^
It’s easy to imagine that the writers of Blacklist told Spader, “Here’s the basics of your character. Each episode, we’ll just give you the broadest outline of the story and you do what you do. Let us know what scripts you want us to write for the other actors. Except Hisham- the two of you can sort it out between yourselves.”
But seriously, big props to everyone involved in Blacklist. I haven’t been so engaged with the characters in a tv show since Twin Peaks.

Very interesting piece on The Practice. Haven't heard about it before.
That part was great! He never really talks about that in other interviews but that season is such a gem. The odd circumstances for the networks that show and the spin-off made for great t.v. The characters end up breaking the 4th wall quite a bit in that show for example when they changed networks/air times, haha.

as an answer for the interviewer, the character of Red looks like James about 80% cause he has an intersting way in telling a story or answering any question and that what we love and enjoy in Black list ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was debating on whether or not to attend this because I had school during it and I ended up going to school sadly wow I regret it and hate everything (on a more positive note.. this is a great discussion james is such a captivating conversationalist i could listen to him talk for hours! i just wanna pick his brain on all things)

Very nice interview. I like the relaxed way of the interview and the type of answers James Spader gives in his interviews.
He's such a down to earth kind of actor and so funny. Could listen to his storys for hours.
And thanks for the recommendations of some movies, I just discovered him in "The Blacklist" a year ago or something. This show was recommended to me by a friend and I ended up watching the whole show from start to the end of season 5, patiently waiting for season 6 starting in January. I haven't seen such a good show since a long time.
I'm going to look at other stuff he has done like "Boston Legal", or "Sex, Lies, and Videotape". it's always a blast to watch James Spader, on or off screen. :)
One of the offbeat ones...like Malkovich, Goldblum, etc. Tons of charisma. Hope he continues to get great roles.
